Coed 1 Mid-Season Report Cards

We are halfway through the season and a lot has happened, lots of wins, some upsets, surprises, etc. All teams have played half of their games (or almost depending on when you had your bye weeks). We’ll dive into the mid season report cards for Coed 1, for Coed 2 it will come out next week, I appreciate the patience! We’ll be going through all 8 teams and see how they’re doing.

This article is inspired from Ignacio Valdes Manzanedo as I like the way he broke things down with the offensive, defensive and overall grading. The next part was written by him also which is well explained for you to understand where your grades are coming from. Enjoy !

Offensive/Defensive Grading Scheme

A: Outstanding offensive/defensive performance. You are the best at your craft and have proven it so far in 5 games. Offensively, you move the ball with ease and if you get stopped once or twice a game, I’m shocked. Defensively, I’m seeing 3-4 stops a game, and you’re averaging 1-2 interceptions a game. You are elite.

B: You are a good offense/defense. Offensively, you can drive the field for the most part, with a few hiccups each game. Because defense is hard, you are getting 1-2 stops a game and that is good in Coed 1 where offenses know what they are doing.

C: You are an average/below average offense/defense. Your putting up 20-25 points per game and on defense, you barely get a stop in a given game. Your picks are lucky bounces off receivers hands.

D: You are really struggling on offense/defense. Your concepts don’t work at this level and you need to either revamp the plays or drop down a division.

Overall Grading Scheme

Whereas the Offense/Defense grades are basically saying whether you are good or bad, the Overall Grade is compared to expectations placed on your team relative to the beginning of the season. A “C” grade doesn’t mean you are a bad team, just that

A: Your team has greatly exceeded expectations. You are more likely to get this grade if you are a 3-2 team when you were expected to go 0-5 or 1-4, than a 5-0 team expected to go 5-0.

B: You have a good team, but you’ve slightly surpassed expectations. You either jumped a division and are sitting at 2-3 or so and staying competitive in games.

C: You are meeting expectations. I expected you to be exactly where you are at.

D: Severely under performing! You may have signed up in the wrong division

Coed 1

Les Porcinets (5-0)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A-

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Kristopher Verrault

As a new team in this division, they are excelling right now with being the only team at 5-0. Yes some games were close calls and they only won by a couple points but in general they are able to keep calm and drive the field to score. They are experienced players, it is not their first time in the league, they know what they are doing and it shows on the field. Having a great QB like Kristopher makes a huge difference as the ball starts with him, his jugement of where the ball is thrown has been great as shown by his stats, in only 5 games he has almost 1000 yards, 24 TD’s and only got intercepted and sacked 4 times.

Plenty Of Fish (4-1)

Offensive grade: B

Defensive grade: B+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Julian McLaren-Thompson

They have surpassed expectations since the beginning of the season. Comparing this team to others, some might say they are surprised to see how many wins they have. However, Plenty Of Fish has proven once again why they deserve to have their place in this division. They play hard, they have determination to win, and having a QB that knows her receivers well and have been playing with them for a while, they have a connection that maybe not other teams have just yet. Well done for this team and we hope they get very far in the playoffs !

Party Mix (3-1-1)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: B+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Jeremy Murphy

They’ve had a few hiccups along the first half of the season. I expected them to be a team where they got no losses but it changed along the way. However, even though the wins/losses are shown, I believe they will be able to make it very far. Having a QB with experience with great athletes on his hands proves to me that the losses mean nothing. Francois Deslauriers has the athletes to make the plays, they have speed, agility, they are also focused and motivated when playing.

Kiss My End Zone (2-2-1)

Offensive grade: B+

Defensive grade: B-

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Marvin Steinberg

Underperforming unfortunately. You guys have lost the 2 games by 1-2 points, I’m guessing are the converts that you were unable to get. I don’t know if it’s from the female athletes missing, or maybe Ignacio is not used to play with the players he has right now, an period of adjustment for everyone. However this does not mean anything. Having played with them I can say that they come in clutch towards the end of the games and I hope they can this season also with the new roster they got because they do have the athlete to make it. Make me proud out there and go get some more wins !

EZFun (2-3)

Offensive grade: B

Defensive grade: C+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Alexandre Barros

It’s always hard to stay in the same division since you’re used to being there, especially when teams are changing their roster to make it better and you keep the same every season. Offensively you guys are putting up the points and making plays. Defensively, you guys are not getting the stops you need to turn the game around, maybe the communication isn’t there after the ball is snapped or the matchups are to be changed throughout the game? You can try to change the tactics on defense if it’s not working, adjusting might help a little, but it may be enough to get the wins.

The IG Team (1-3-1)

Offensive grade: D+

Defensive grade: C-

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Stella Jean Georges

I get that they have lost their main player and since then they were forced to readjust. That means taking out one of their good players on offense to put him as a QB. They didn’t have the choice as it happened after the season started so I don’t blame them for anything. They are trying their best offensive and defensively, and maybe it isn’t as fun to play when you’re losing. Therefore if they were to come back without their original QB, I suggest going down a division as it might be more of a closer game rather than losing a lot of games by more than a touchdown.

Zerosub (0-4-1)

Offensive grade: B-

Defensive grade: C+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Caroline Moquin-Joubert

I had high expectations as they won coed 2 last season, however coed 1 is a big jump. The challenge is very different are you are playing against the highest coed teams. Even if they lost their games, they are making the plays to get touchdowns. They started off slow but as the games advance I am starting to see a change. For an example, their last game played against Party Mix, they lost from a 40-41 game. I can see the adjustments they are making and I’m pretty certain that if they keep up they will be able to get 1-2 wins by the end of the season. It’s always nice to see a new team taking up a new challenge and seeing them get better game by game.

Les Petits Phoques (0-3-0)

Offensive grade: C+

Defensive grade: D+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Anne-Sophie Pépin

You guys only have played 3 games yet so there is a lot more to uncover. From what I’ve seen, there might be a struggle on the defense where they are not able to be exactly there to stop their opponents. Coed 1 is very axed on their defensive skills and if you are not able to stop your opponents at multiple occasions or even just once or twice it’s gonna cost you the win. You guys are almost there but just not quite yet. There are still some adjustments to make in order to get the stop you need. Offensively, Dom Lefort is calling what needs to be called and is able to send the ball to gain yards. His receivers are also catching and are indeed driving up the field at most.
