Co-Ed Week 9 Recap

Although my last article isn’t two weeks old the co-ed division was back in action this week. I can say that I witnessed two of the three matchups this week but if I was able to split myself in half and be in two different places at once I would do that. Unfortunately that is impossible but it looks as if the playoff picture is becoming a little clearer except for that top spot which seems like it will come down to this final week of the season to depict who becomes first. This is what happened this week in the co-ed division.

TC vs. Hot-Dawgz

This was a very good matchup and let me be the first to say the competitive spirit of both teams was in full swing in this matchup. TC had a bit of a struggle at the beginning of the game as their punctuality was right on the nose. They were hectic to get on the field and get things in order and it showed as their first few plays were not the usual offense that they have. Then things started coming along and they got back to their usual offensive juggernaut ways and they did not look back. Their offense was clicking and it did not take them many plays to put up the staggering amount of points that they did this week. Considering the fact that TC had a tournament earlier in the day and still managed to show up is truly amazing. They did not seem tired at all until the end of the game where they earned a very hard fought victory against a rejuvenated opponent.

That rejuvenated opponent was Hot-Dawgz who came to the matchup with some added fire power. They were able to find holes in the opposing defense that had the opposition shaking their head as to what they had to do to stop them. They started strong and like I mentioned in the last article they needed to showcase their skill throughout the game. They did exactly that and they showed an offense that I could have just imagined but they made it a reality. Unfortunately it was not enough to come away with the victory but if they are able to continue this in the last match of the season they might be able to come away with that all important first win. Until then all I have to say about this team is that if they can find that fire and could just come together as a defensive unit things will indeed be different.

TC came away with a narrow 41–37 victory against a different Hot-Dawgz team; for the better.

3rd Down for What vs. Party Mix

More often than not the best matchups are the battles for the top teams and this week was no different. The thing that makes it so much better is that after this contest there is no longer an undefeated team. The reason behind that is due to the great team effort shown by 3rd Down for What. In all seriousness, they got into the head of a very dominant quarterback early as they intercepted his very first pass of the game. After that interception it rattled him and their defense was shut down from that moment on. Usually when a defense is shut down it makes it easier to win games because they don’t allow many points. That was not the case here because it took a great effort at the end of the game within the last 5 plays to make the play that gets them into the lead. Considering there was not much more to do besides make a stop they put together a great defensive coverage system and were able to get the interception to secure the victory.

Losing a game is never fun, especially after the undefeated run Party Mix had but like I keep saying to undefeated teams it’s better to lose in the season than in the playoffs. They will agree with me but it’s still not a good feeling when you try to come out with a win as hard as you can and you don’t get the job done. I am taking nothing away from Party Mix but they were frazzled from the very first play and although they tried to snap out of it they could not do it. If the very first play of your game goes in the opposing teams favor there is no real way of dealing with it. It will usually determine how the rest of the game will go and in this case Party Mix was not the better team. I do not plan on saying that much more because they are one of the best well rounded teams in this division. But if the leader struggles which was the case this week then the rest of the team has to work together and get the job done. Unfortunately, this was a week to forget and I am sure it is in the rear view mirror and they will go into the last game of the season and do what they do best.

The better team won this week and that team is 3rd Down for What as they came away with a 27-20 victory against the first place Party Mix.

Yin & Yang vs. Michael Scott’s Tots

This match up was between two teams that were hungry to get back on the field and go out and play some football. Yin & Yang were the hungrier of the two and it showed with the amount of points they were able to put up. This team has been on fire winning 5 of their last 7 games and it is mainly because they have found a system that works but in order for certain systems to work you need the right players. Yin & Yang have the right players for the roles that they are given and it looks as though they have what it takes to turn a few heads when it comes to the playoffs. If they continue to read the defense which is their strong point and try to get into opposing teams heads to prevent the points from being scored against them they will be just fine. The problem is that sure they put up the points but they also tend to give up too many points against some of the better offensive teams.

Now the level of play shown by Michael Scott’s Tots is nowhere close to what I know it can be. They can’t seem to figure out what the problem is and if they think they solved one problem the opposing team finds another problem. They just need to keep things simple and try not to complicate things by switching up matchups. The problem is on defense they just can’t seem to stop the opposing offense and that’s mainly because they switch up the matchups against the opposition. They have solid defensive players the easiest thing would be matching them up against the receivers that may cause the most problems for them. Once those are matched up they can set their other defensive players against players they feel more capable of covering. This team has the pieces to the winning puzzle it’s just a matter of fitting them and getting the end product which is a victory.

The hungrier Yin & Yang was able to stop a team that had two weeks to think of getting back from being blanked and they did just that as they came away with a 41-32 victory.

Performers of the Week

Power Rankings

  • 1- 3rd Down for What: Coming off the biggest win of their season against the number 1 team in the division but they truly were the better team in their matchup this week.
  • 2- Party Mix: Sure it’s one loss but it was the way they were outplayed as a team that has them sliding down a spot but they will bounce back and they look to reclaim their spot in the final week.
  • 3- Yin & Yang: They are a very good team but their two losses on the season come against the teams ahead of them in this ranking. They have what it takes to win but until they prove to me they can beat the top 2 they will remain third.
  • 4- TC: They have the 4th spot because they have a good team but unfortunately the top three have solid offense and if TC does not work to prevent the amount of points that they put up it would not look good for them.
  • 5- Hot-Dawgz: They jumped a spot because they showed me this fire that was lacking throughout the season and unfortunately they didn’t get their first win but they found this skill set that has eluded them and if they keep it up they will get that win.
  • 6- Michael Scott’s Tots: This is only due to the fact that they have not been able to bring it this season and that’s a shame because I know they are better than they have been this season. I just need to see it in order to give them a better ranking.

Predictions

3rd Down for what vs. TC

Both these teams are coming off hard fought victories and I believe that the momentum 3rd down for what is riding into this matchup is more than enough to get them to come out victorious.

Michael Scott’s Tots vs. Hot-Dawgz

Honestly I believe that this game will come down to how wants to stay away from that bottom ranking in this division. They tied in their last meeting and I truly believe that Michael Scott’s Tots will figure it out and come away with the win.

Yin & Yang vs. Party Mix

This is a great battle involving a team that has been on fire lately and another team that has the bitter taste of their first loss. This is where Yin & Yang has to prove that they can compete against the best this division has to offer. They lost their first meeting but keep in mind they did not have their full team. I am curious about this outcome. But I believe Party Mix will take that anger from their first loss and turn it into victory this week.

That’s all for me this week, I am expecting nothing less than intriguing football this week in the co-ed division.
