Co-Ed Week 4 Recap

Another week has come and gone like the ice and snow of this very winter friendly province. It was a great week in the co-ed division many great games and most importantly some very noticeable improvements made by some teams.

That being said sit back relax and enjoy the following information I enjoy providing you with on a weekly basis.

  • ATH Squad vs. Michael Scott’s Tots

It was a tale of two halves; ATH Squad and Michael Scott’s Tots were extremely even in the first half. In the end it appeared that ATH Squad had run out of gas laid a goose egg in the second half which led to a 37-19 defeat at the hands of Michael Scott’s Tots.

Marc-Antoine Jetté had himself a fair outing although he did not have many completions that did not matter because the man had himself three touchdown passes. Not only did he move the ball with his arm he also moved the ball extremely well with his legs. He got away from the rusher and put up over 60 yards rushing.

His receivers were there when he needed them most… in the endzone. His three touchdown passes were split amongst three players who made their catch one that would have an impact on the game. Edwin Tawiah had one of the touchdowns and it was for a very fair amount of yardage. Sarah-Michelle Roy caught one from just outside the redzone and although redzone means close distance to score the fact that it is close distance means that there is not as much room to work. Marc-Antoine did not seem let that bother him as he placed the ball perfectly in the hands of Sarah-Michelle and Jessica Gosselin for short yard touchdowns. Jessica also added three tackles and one interception which almost led to a score in ATH Squad Favor.

Evan Ely Nolet was on fire that night he completed 14 passes and accumulated 200 yards passing. In FlagPlus Football any 200 yard passing game is consider a phenomenal performance and not only did he get the yardage he also threw six touchdown passes. Three of which were in the second half of the game to secure the victory.

As I mentioned in my article last week Zackary Alberts-Gill is a real threat and that was indeed the case in this game as he made six receptions and two of those went the distance for a touchdown. Zackary has some surprising speed I would definitely lose in a foot race against him. On defense he failed to get to the quarterback but that did not stop him from jumping up and batting down two of his passes. Well done Zackary Alberts-Gill assistant to the co-ed writer. Karina Niboj has two touchdowns in two games and I consider her a real redzone threat. The question is… how long can she keep this up? No pressure Karina just keep doing what you do which is find the opening of the defence in the redzone and you will be just fine.

Kenny Boutilier you had yourself a day on the defensive side of the ball. Aside from being a menace to the opposing quarterback you were friendly to your own. The touchdown on offense was all good but the game you had on defence definitely impacted the outcome of the game. With the one interception being the only blemish on the opposing quarterback Kenny was also the main reason why some touchdowns were prevented. He had two pass defences and although interceptions look better on paper pass defences can be the difference between a win and a loss.

  • Big TDs vs. Served With Girls

At this point of the season it seems as if Big TDs cannot be stopped and their offense is the main reason why. So far they are averaging 41.25 points per game that is just outrageous. They defeated Served with Girls 37-12 in what was a near perfect game for them.

Saadia Ashraf is my early candidate for Quarterback of the year. Her play is outstanding and she has been a total nightmare for opposing defenses. A huge part of her success is due to her incredible completion percentage in this game she had completed 89% of her passes. That means that only two of her passes the entire game were off the mark. Not to mention how she finds the open receivers in the endzone. She had six touchdown passes in this contest and it seemed as though whatever she did with her eyes was enough to draw opposing defenders away from her intended targets.

Saadia does not play favorites she targets every single one of her receivers at least a couple times a game. This game Myles Browne seemed to be the top guy with five catches for north of 80 yards and not to mention the two touchdown receptions he had. Georgina Paull came back from a trip far east and it looked as if she was out east training for her FlagPlus Football return. She had two catches and one of them went for a touchdown. On defense it did not look as she slowed down even a little bit she was always at the right place at the right time and she came up with three tackles. Sure tackles do not seem like much but when they are almost instant it means that you stuck with the receiver step for step and did not allow the opponent to breathe (Metaphorically of course.) Nice return Georgina; keep on being the pest on defense I know you can be.

The defence came up huge for Big TDs and that was greatly due to the pressure applied by Ryan Browne on the opposing quarterback which halted the quarterback’s momentum and made him throw a very key interception to Seth Galina. Ryan Browne also made it extremely difficult for the quarterback to make the simple throws getting in the quarterback’s face and batting down two of the passes instantly.

Karl Lavallée had a good game considering how much of a pain the opposing rusher was. He finished the game with two touchdown passes and although he had thrown an interception I would not make that overshadow how good of an overall game he had. Being rushed so well it caused him to scramble and scramble he did three times for just under 30 yards total but those rushes helped move the play and kept his offence on the field. On defence he was the guy that came up with touchdown saving tackles and he kept the play in front of him which is the best thing to do in any game.

Charlie Loignon just had a remarkable game. He was indeed the go to guy for Karl as he came down with nine receptions for 110 yards receiving. Let me tell you something the last time I ran 110 yards was when I was in my terrible two phase and that was quite a while ago. The stamina shown by Charlie was incredible, he was a machine out on the field and he was a thorn in the side of the Big TDs defence. Even in defeat Charlie was without a doubt the standout performer of this game in its entirety.

  • It’s A Match vs. Flagiuuu

It’s A Match was down at halftime but that did not put a downer on their attitude. In the second half the put up more points than their first half and they walked away with a 26-13 victory against an improved Flagiuuu team.

Benoit Lawlor was ready to go as he had one of his best games on the season. He completed more than half his passes and when the going was tough he stuck it out and came up with an incredible second half to secure the victory. When he was down in the second half he strapped on his cleats tight and got the best out of his teammates. Shaking off a first half with turnovers he turned it around and threw 2 of his touchdowns without an interception and he did what he had to do to make sure his offensive companions were not discouraged.

Benoit’s favorite receiver on the game was Alexis Labonté who had an epic showing. Alexis caught more than half of Benoit’s completions and came up with just shy of 115 yards receiving, and who can forget the fact that he came down with three touchdowns. That was not all; on the defensive side of the ball he was the ultimate nuisance for the opposing quarterback rushing coming out with two sacks and getting into the head of the opposing quarterback.

In the end the defense of It’s A Match came up with the big plays. Notably François Éthier who had three tackles but that did not matter what mattered more were the two interceptions he came up with. Those interceptions proved costly for the opposing team. Melanie Rivard also had a good game rushing the quarterback. She forced the quarterback to rush 4 times and doing so it stopped the quarterback from finding his receivers down the field which could have gone for big plays. Including a sack Melanie was indeed a botheration and that seemed to have made a huge impact on the game itself.

Joel Richard had one of his best games at Quarterback although he was constantly being bothered in the backfield by opposing rushers he was able to turn some of those scrambles into big plays through the air and also by running. He finished the game with two touchdown passes and if it weren’t for the opposing rushers incredible speed he would have probably had the best game of this season.

Joel found two different receivers for his touchdowns one of them was Loui Leclerc how had four catches to accompany the touchdown reception. The other was Maxime Marsan how had three catches accompanying that touchdown reception. Maxime was also a threat on the defensive end of the ball he finished with two tackles and one interception which could have very well been the turning point of the game had it not been for the cool, calm, and collective opposing quarterback.

Someone that the opposing team just could not get away from was Florence B. Morino. She read the opposing quarterback well and was able to position herself in such a way that none of the opposing receivers would get past her. She finished the game with five tackles and 3 of those tackles were definitely touchdown preventing touchdowns considering she was the last defender.

  • Party Mix vs. Power Rangers

In my opinion this was the game of the week in the co-ed division. It was an offensive barrage and scorekeeping this game I must say it was one of the most exhilarating games I have witnessed in my 6 seasons part of FlagPlus Football. Party Mix had an incredible showing against in my opinion is one of the most all around talented teams in this division. Unfortunately, their effort came up short as they were defeated 46-36 by the Power Rangers.

The Bandana Man” François Deslauriers had what could have been his best game throwing the ball in his entire FlagPlus Football career and I feel like he would agree me. He was out there throwing against what I feel is the best defense in the entire co-ed division. He finished just shy of 230 yards passing and five touchdowns. He spread the ball well and spread it amongst his receivers he was making on the spot adjustments which proved to be the best calls as he found openings in the defense. To think after putting up these numbers he still lost the quarterback had it been another team there was a very real chance they would have come up with the victory backed by the incredible numbers by the bandana man.

Although the ball was spread there were two receivers in particular who thrived in this offensive battle. Marc-Antoine Bigué I know for a fact that there was a certain play in that game that you would have liked to have back but that did not stop you from having five grabs for just under 80 yards and two touchdowns. He got his redemption for the earlier play but I know for certain had he gotten a chance to take it back and capitalize the game would have definitely had a different outcome. The other receiver who had herself a game was Audrey Le Templier and she was a real threat she had six catches for just under 65 yards and also two touchdowns. She was a real deep threat as both her touchdowns came off passes of 25 yards or more. All in all a very impressive showing by Party Mix this week.

Power Rangers even with two of their original starters unavailable they had two replacements that stepped up in an extraordinary way. One of the replacements was Stephen Casey who took the spot of Kevin Lubin at quarterback for this game and he did not disappoint. He finished the game completing 70% of his passes and if I would have told you he had a better game than François you would think I was out of my mind. I am not and Stephen Casey finished with just over 250 yards passing and seven touchdowns. The numbers put up by both quarterbacks was immaculate and I was so glad I was there to witness this battle first hand.

The other replacement was Nicola Centomo who stepped in for Maxime Giroux who I believe enjoyed the reason for not showing up for this game very much. Nicola was Stephen’s top receiver he finished with seven catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Not bad for a man that stepped in and did what he had to do. Wade Shallcross also had a very good game on the receiving end of the ball; he made four catches for just under 20 yards per catch and to top it all off he too finished with two touchdown receptions.

In this offensive barrage it was tough to choose a defensive standout and although Tam Vilaydeth had seven tackles and was basically wherever the ball was on the defensive end Jessica Farmer had an interesting performance. She had a tackle but that’s only because when the ball came in her direction she would swat it away as to say not in my house Bandana Man. Those two pass defenses were enough to ensure a victory in what was probably the most offense pleasing games I have seen in this division.

  • Straight Off The Couch vs. Flamingos

This game had a better outcome than I expected and that is mainly because of the amount of improvement shown by Flamingos. Although they improved immensely they fell short to Straight off the Couch 33-24. This was a very promising improvement by the Flamingos; I am looking forward to see if they learn from this match and improve into a victorious team.

Sara Parker had her best game of the season; sure her completion percentage was not great but does that really matter when you put up four touchdown passes and zero interceptions? I think not; putting up four touchdowns, I don’t care who it was put up against, it is pretty impressive. I enjoy watching Quarterbacks who spread the ball well and make sure they do not turn it over. I feel like the more responsible you are with the football the more likely you are to come out with the victory. That was the case in this particular game.

All-Star showing by Ryan Dobbs-Garnett he was the main reason why Straight off the couch came up with the victory. He made life easy for Sara and in return he had four receptions for over 100 yards and three touchdowns. That was just on offense. If that wasn’t enough his defensive number were just as outstanding. He had four tackles along with two interceptions; one of which was returned for a touchdown and that was the final nail in the coffin for the flamingos this week.

Flamingos! What an improvement they went from being held to six points in their first two games to quadrupling it in one game. That is an incredible achievement unfortunately it was in a losing effort. Cam Chaput did wonders in exchange for Tevyn Nicholls who srruggled at the very beginning of the game. Cam came in relief and completed more than half his passes and throwing two touchdown passes. Not to mention before taking over at Quarterback he was the guy behind a touchdown pass from Tevyn. To top it all off Cam even had a rushing touchdown so basically he was all around the offensive side of the ball gaining a touchdown in each category related to offense. That has to be the Offensive hat trick that sparked the Flamingos to fight back and almost catch up from behind.

Pat Gilbert was the main receiver for the flamingos. He finished the game with seven catches for just over 50 yards; not to mention he was the first score into the comeback almost made by the Flamingos.

Jessica Bickford was a real pain in the derriere of the opposing quarterback; she had the quarterback scrambling and she obtained a sack that just boosted the flamingo’s morale and made it almost a possible huge comeback victory.

When all is said and done I am proud of the Flamingos they worked on their game and almost came up with the victory. After this break out game from the team could this momentum lead to that first victory? I sure hope so.
