Co-ed Week 4 Recap

Another week in the books of this fine co-ed season and this week was no different. Three matchups all very tightly contended and one of which caught the attention of our Game of the Week guy Lance. We had ourselves a battle of two teams that have found their true calling in recent weeks. Our number one seed continues to prove why they are indeed the team to beat in the season. Lastly, we had a close game between our second seeded team and a team that has had struggles in recent weeks but they found a way to remain competitive. This is what happened this week in the co-ed division.

Yin & Yang vs. TC

This matchup was featured and was primetime for the game of the week. It lived up to all expectations I had. It was tightly contested throughout and both quarterbacks showed resilience and did not let their confidence get shaken. Mike Roy was the quarterback that came up victorious and it was not because he had stellar numbers it is because his team came up big when it mattered most. They had the momentum going for them until he threw a pick 6 to Marilou Beland. After that he got back out there dusted himself off and did not look back. He finished the game with 4 touchdown passes and most importantly he left with the victory. That being said he may need to look back at the film and see where he went wrong to throw 3 interceptions.

Mike found the end zone 4 times but it was due to the fact that Carmine Pollice could do no wrong. He went out there and ensured his team the victory with sensational receiving numbers. He had 6 catches for less than 50 yards but when Mike needed him most he was there and he got the job done. He got the job done 3 times in fact and it seemed as if the opposing defense could not contain him in the red zone. The other receiver that helped secure the victory was Andrew Carruthers who although did not catch many passes he was able to catch one in the most important part of the field. Mike has established some real chemistry with this team since making an appearance in week 2 and it seems like they have all the ingredients to a recipe for success.

Vanessa Birri had a tough time as well in this defensive battle but what made her job a little more difficult was the incredible rushing ability of Olivia Sormany who ensure Vanessa get as little time as possible to make a play. Although, the rushing made it difficult to concentrate on the game plan Vanessa  and TC worked with that and made adjustments. They added a couple trick plays to throw off the defense and in one particular case it worked as she threw behind her to Emilie Carrier who was then able to find a receiver in the end zone. TC’s defense was able to ensure that Vanessa’s mistakes would not cost them dearly although they were still defeated. It was a tough defeat for them but they have found certain schemes that could put points on the board. If it weren’t for a couple mistakes they would have definitely came out victorious.

Unfortunately, in this game if you make too many mistakes it often costs you in the end. That was the situation this week as Yin & Yang were able to convert on the turnovers and come away with a 28-25 victory.

Michael Scott’s Tots vs. Party Mix

The woes are continuing for Michael Scott’s Tots as they just can’t seem to find the end zone when they really need it. Evan is playing well and he is being a smart quarterback who does not like to take risks. That is a good way to look at things but sometimes you need to take risks. Like the old saying goes; no risks leads to no rewards. This is the prime example there are some times that Evan has receivers open deep but he’s worried about turning the ball over that he does not chuck it up and hope for the best. He is more of a safety quarterback the safer the play the better and there is nothing wrong with that. Although if your team is trailing in a game and there is not much time left to get it tied or take the lead then you should be able to trust that the football gods are on your side. If it doesn’t work out that’s ok but you will never really know unless you try it.

Party Mix is on a mission this season and that mission is to win the championship. Throughout the first month of the season they have been doing just that. They are the only remaining undefeated team in the division. It is still relatively early but if they continue playing at this level they could very well go undefeated and capture the championship. Frank is my early favorite for quarterback of the year because he seems to be doing no wrong. As a matter of fact he threw his first interception of the season in this game. Congratulations to Bianca Frainetti for being that first hiccup in Frank’s season. However, after he threw that interception he was almost perfect. He threw 4 touchdown passes and my sources tell me that he’s been a stellar quarterback not only for Party Mix but for his division D team as well. He is on another level right now and he just seems to know exactly what works in the level of play his division entails.

Frank has some trustworthy receivers on his side as well that make his job not as hard as it should be. Taking nothing away from the responsibilities that comes with the quarterback position but he has some players on his team that know what it takes to get the job done. Alex Holowach comes to mind as a player that has been affiliated with this league for 8 years. If being part of this league that long does not make you realize what it takes to win then I don’t know what does. He was able to find the end zone twice and he was being covered by the reigning defensive player of the year. Laurence Lamy and Marilou Côté-Noël are two receivers that seem to be getting involved more and more in the offense during these last couple weeks. They were both able to find the end zone in this game and they ultimately ensured the victory for their side.

Party Mix keeps doing more than enough to secure victories leading to this so far undefeated season. That was the case again this week as they secured a 26-13 victory against a struggling Michael Scott’s Tots.

3rd Down for What vs. Hot-Dawgz

This game was another close one as Sara Parker led her team to victory against a very improved Hot-Dawgz team. Sara had herself not the best game of this young season but she sure did more than enough to help her team win. She finished the game with 4 touchdown passes and no interceptions. Sara has learned from her previous season and she now runs safe plays and moves down the field. She found mismatches in the opposing defense and she took full advantage of them. She was able to spread the ball to 5 different receivers and the quality of receivers she has at her disposal is pretty intriguing. If Sara continues to play the way she did in this game then she can lead this team a very long way. She has to continue playing smart with the ball, spreading the ball all over the field in order to keep the opposing defense guessing and they will definitely have the offense capable of winning it all.

Her receivers are pure athletes; she has a couple of them that can make something out of nothing. They are able to take short routes and convert them into long plays out of pure speed. Kevin Lubin this week was the go to guy as he had 3 of Sara’s 4 touchdown receptions. Now Kevin is quite the athlete and he won this division last season by making plays with his feet. He is quick and he never seems to get tired, he is indeed the biggest threat on this offense. Rachel Beaudoin was the other receiver that was important to securing this victory. She only had 2 catches but that does not matter because one of her catches was in the end zone. She always seems to get unnoticed in the red zone by defensive teams. I am not sure how she finds opening in tight spaces but she gets it done when Sara has no other option in the red zone.

This game came down to a conversion battle and that battle was won by Sara and her offense as she led 3rd Down for What to a 26-24 victory over a much improved Hot-Dawgz team.

Power Rankings

  • 1- Party Mix: They seem to be untouchable as they are the only undefeated team led by almost perfect Quarterback play. It’s tough to stop them but I am not saying it’s impossible.
  • 2- 3rd Down for What: Not the kind of victory they expected but Sara was able to find the offense that works in their favor. If this continues they may be number 1.
  • 3- Yin & Yang: I am enjoying their level of play and they are doing everything necessary to make sure they are in a position to be better than the teams that have been in the division already.
  • 4- TC: Tough loss but there was a lot of bright spots on their defense. Their offense was a bit messy but I know they can get back their rhythm and clean up the mess while ensuring victories.
  • 5- Michael Scott’s Tots: Tough loss this week but they were able to crack the top Quarterback. Unfortunately, it was a little late but as I stated if they take more risks they may have bigger returns.
  • 6- Hot-Dawgz: Another loss but there is a lot that can be taken away from their matchup this week and I truly believe that if they make a few little changes to their methods they will be in a good spot.

Predictions

TC vs. Michael Scott’s Tots

It is only a matter of time before Michael Scott’s Tots gets that first win and TC has a good defense but there may be some places to exploit for Evan if he finds them. TC has a great way of hiding their flaws and working on them without the other team knowing. This week I truly believe that Michael Scott’s Tots will come out victorious if they are willing to take a couple more risks.

Party Mix vs. Hot-Dawgz

This may seem like the obvious choice but I believe Party Mix will stay undefeated. I am taking nothing away from Hot-Dawgz but Frank reads opposing defenses too well. Those reads will lead to big plays and big points, it will also lead to a nice victory for Party Mix.

Yin & Yang vs. 3rd Down for What

In my opinion this is the game of the week in this division and it could honestly go both ways. Yin & Yang has found the keys to victory lately and I truly believe that they will come out victorious. The reason is that Yin & Yang in my opinion have a better defense and that defense will make all the difference in this matchup.

That’s all for me this week, I am expecting nothing less than intriguing football this week in the co-ed division.
