Co-Ed Week 2 & 3 Recap

One very unfortunate fact is that Week 2 in the Co-Ed division was not meant to be played in its entirety. Of course I would have loved to bring to you a week 2 recap of this exciting division but clearly I have no power over mother nature.

  • Straight Off the Couch vs. Big TDs

We were able to fit one game in for Week 2. In that game Big TDs proved that you should definitely stretch before a game after coming straight off the couch. Big TDs came out with a demanding victory 48-0 tough first game for straight off the couch but they had a much better outing in their second game.

Although there weren`t any points on the board for Straight Off The Couch they had their fair share of chances and those chances came for Jayshawn Duhaney-Thomas and Ryan Dobbs-Garnett. Having hyphenated names is not the only things these two share; they were also the main targets for their Quarterback. Jayshawn had the edge when he caught four passes for 40 yards averaging important first downs and in the game of flag football every first down means a new beginning. Ryan had three catches for 36 yards.

Straight off the Couch had a tough time on defense but that does not mean there was nothing to take away from their defense. Kurtis Bell was a tackle machine everywhere the ball was thrown it just seemed as if he was there to make that stop. He ended his night with six tackles and those were the ones he pulled the flag off. He was also always in a great position to differ the opposition out of bounds. Let us just say he was everywhere he needed to be and that means he read the offence well enough. Although Kurtis was the tackle master, Rachel Beaudoin was great on coverage. Albeit, she had one pass defence and two tackles but that just shows me that she had her receiver covered and even if the receiver made the catch she was right there to stop them immediately. The fact that she was not targeted much means that the Quarterback saw that her positioning was outstanding and did not want to risk a turnover.

Back to Back six touchdown games for Big TDs Quarterback Saadia Ashraf. Her numbers speak for themselves she is the real deal and as of right now there is no stopping her. She has to be one of the fairest quarterbacks I have seen in my 2 years with FlagPlus Football (5 Seasons) I feel like her toughest decision is Who should I pass the ball off to next? She completed a pass to every receiver on her team on multiple occasions, even the weakest link Tom Cesari was targeted and had a completion. No offence Tom you are a great official. If Saadia continues to perform at this level the future looks bright for Big TDs. Saadia is so fair that she even shared her Quarterback snaps with Tom Cesari who made the most of his opportunities by completing two passes where one went for a touchdown. Tom, Saadia is making it really tough for you to step back into the quarterback position.

On the receiving end of the ball it was a battle of the Browne`s; both Myles and Ryan made huge impacts in the game. Notice how I put Myles name first that is not because I sorted them out in alphabetical order but I sorted them out according to the impact on the game. Myles had three catches and to most people that sounds like an average game but you should make me finish. Not only were they three catches but they were three touchdown catches and now I feel like people would ask why not start with that. My answer to that is to create suspense and I feel like it worked. To add to those three touchdown catches would be a tackle but you need to learn to make me finish. With that tackle came a pass defense and ultimately to finish the trio he came up with an interception as well. Now Ryan probably thinks I forgot about him and I did not; he finished with five catches and two of those turned into touchdowns. Both Browne`s had spectacular games and that definitely helped secure the victory.

Defense came up huge for Big TDs it is kind of obvious considering they held their opponent scoreless. One of the main reason why that was the case was due to the tremendous effort put on by Alia Palmer. Not only did she get in on the scoring with a touchdown catch but she was on the defensive side of the ball making sure no touchdowns were scored against her. The opposing quarterback targeted her 4 times and only one of those times did the receiver get better position but she was there to make the instant tackle. Although 75% of the time she was right there and batted the ball away and prevented touchdowns from being scored.

That is all for week 2 unfortunately mother nature wanted to ice our plans but no worries the games have been rescheduled at further dates.

  • Straight Off the Couch vs Served With Girls

Even though they still came out on the losing side the progress was incredible for Straight off the Couch. They left with their heads high after a 35-32 defeat at the hands of Served With Girls.

Missing from their first game Sara Parker was the key to the progress for Straight Off the Couch. She only completed half of her passes but the most important part is that she completed four of those passes for touchdowns. She spread the ball well and was conservative with the ball for the most part. If Sara continues to be the quarterback for Straight Off The Couch then that first week match would be nothing but an afterthought.

Kevin St. Pierre was also missing from their week one matchup and it showed. Throughout the game he was a thorn in the side of Served With Girls defense and he came through with six catches and two touchdown catches on the offensive side of the ball. As for the defensive side of the ball he played the ball well and read the routes of the receivers and he came up with four tackles along with an interception.

The defense of Straight off the Couch was much better than their first matchup of the season. There were two players in particular who stood out from the bunch. One of the players was Rachel Beaudoin she made two tackles followed by a pass defense and to top it all off she came down with an interception. She was out there making man coverage look easy. She was locked on to the receiver she was covering and made big plays. The other player that stood out was Audrey Moguel she was rushing the quarterback and making him nervous. A couple times she forced him out of the pocket and when he did not decide to throw it away she would force him to run. She is very quick and she got to the quarterback once for a sack and another time for a very short yard running play.

Served with Girls quarterback Karl Lavallée had himself a great game throwing the ball. He finished with 65% completion percentage and given that he was rushed very well and had to make his throws on the run that is very impressive. Sure he had two interceptions but that did not seem to affect the outcome of the game because it did not affect his mindset. He finished the game with five touchdown passes and did not let the rush change his plays.

Not much of a yardage battle between the two top receivers of the game but it was a touchdown battle. Charlie Loignon had a monster game he finished the game with three touchdown receptions and not to mention his interception on defense. He made his case for being the better target for Karl over his teammate Vincent Thomas who did not have much yardage but he came up with the key touchdown receptions to secure the win for his team. Although Charlie had the edge on the offensive side of the ball Vincent took the battle on the defensive side of the ball. Also coming up with an interception but adding three pass defenses to his resume which prevented Straight Off The Couch from scoring and taking the lead and ultimately the win.

Frédérique Daigle was fun to watch on defense. Sure she did not come up with an interception but she came up with key tackles preventing first downs and forcing punts. As well as a Pass Defense that had she not gotten to that ball it could have very well been a different outcome on the game. Given the dangers throwing to Charlie and Vincent the opposing Quarterback had to change up her plays; thus making it harder to utilize the plan they had coming into the game.

  • Flagiuuu vs. TC

Another great display from TC this week as the defeated Falgiuuu 33-6. Flagiuuu played better than their week one encounter but TC was tough to contain.

Joel Richard quarterback of Flagiuuu had a decent game to say the least. Turnovers are never easy to overcome and in this case Joel threw two interceptions which were exceptionally hard to come back from against an All-Star Quarterback and some Division 1 – 2 Players. Joel has to stop forcing throws and rushing throws he just has to step back look at what the defense gives him and I know he will thrive and find his receivers. He has faced the two top teams of this division right now and he doesn`t give up on his team. He tries the most to boost the confidence of the team around him and for that I salute you.

Maxime Marsan was Joel`s favorite receiver in this game. Maxime had more than half Joel`s completions as well as more than half his total yardage. To top of being the top guy he also had the only score for Flagiuuu in this game. He was more of an offensive threat than a defensive threat in this game considering he had more catches than tackles but he is known for his offence everywhere he plays.

On defense, Florence B. Morino was the defensive specialist this game. She was always right where she had to be at all times. She saw where the quarterback was heading towards and she pounced on those receivers whenever they were in her area. She finished with four tackles on the game. Another defensive player that had himself a good game was Martin Gelinas. He was also a good tackler coming up with three tackles on his own and he was the reason behind the only blemish by Vanessa Birri as he came down with an interception.

Vanessa Birri was outstanding in the game and she is proving once again why she was considered an All-Star Quarterback for FlagPlus Football last winter season and she is hoping to get there once again. She threw all over the field eclipsing 200 yards passing that is quite an accomplishment. She also found many of her teammates and spread the ball extremely well always keeping Flagiuuu`s defense on their heels. She read the coverage of the defense and she was able to find some soft spots everywhere on the field.

Her top receiver was Jacques Void and he seemed to be unstoppable. He found the openings of the defensive coverage and he indeed exploited them. Given he is a top division player he knows what is best for his quarterback and he made the job relatively easy for Vanessa. He finished the game with five catches for a whopping 101 yards and 3 touchdowns. The man was more of a machine than a man in this particular game. There are three Emilie`s on TC`s roster; both Emilie P. Badoux and Emilie Carrier found the endzone for scores and they were both clutch receivers for Vanessa.

The defense for TC was astonishing they played a marvelous game. One of the standouts of this was Lauriane Beauchamp who not only had four tackles but she also had two pass defenses one of which prevented a touchdown from being scored against them. The third Emilie on this squad was the other stand out performer considering she also had a pass defense she added an interception which proved to be the dagger in the hearts of Flagiuuu.

  • Michael Scott`s Tots vs. Big TDs

First coverage from me for Michael Scott`s Tots and as a fan of The Office; I really hope this team does not let me down like Michael Scott let down a bunch of high schooler`s with an empty promise of scholarships.

That being said let`s get to football… Evan Ely Nolet one of the fun names of FlagPlus Football had a pretty decent game. He finished with more than 100 yards passing followed by more touchdown passes than interceptions which in my book is always a good game. He spread the ball nicely amongst his players and he made good plays. A few unfortunate incidents lead to turnovers but its fine. This was their first game and they can easily work on their game plan and they will be in good hands.

The majority of completions thrown by Evan were to who in my opinion will be his go to guy throughout the season was thrown to Gerry Gilbert. Gerry had six catches and one of them was a touchdown. Good numbers for a receiver considering the defense he went up against. Another receiver that flew under the radar for Michael Scott`s Tots was Karina Niboj; sure she only had two receptions for little yardage but that does not matter because she came up with six points and everyone know that touchdowns are more important than yardage or catches.

On defense it was pretty spread out but Kenny Boutillier was the leading tackler. I have watched Kenny in the past and I know that he has the potential to be a real threat in the co-ed division. Zackary Alberts-Gill I know what you can do and although it did not show in the first game expect of course the touchdown reception I am sure you will gather your team up and lead by example. Just like Michael Scott did for 7 Seasons of The Office. That`s What She Said.

I know that I keep bragging about how spectacular the play of Saadia has been but this is just incredible. Another near perfect game from her and I am sure Vanessa Birri is paying attention. There is going to be a real competition amongst these two quarterbacks that will decide who will be an All-Star and Quarterback of the Season. Saadia another astounding performance 80% of her passes were completed that is just insanity. That along with five touchdown passes she is simply revolutionizing this Co-Ed division. The question now is… Who can stop Saadia and how? I am sure these Co-Ed teams would love to find out.

One of the reasons for the success of Saadia is because she has a group of receivers who finds openings in coverage and give her plenty of room to throw in to. For example in this game Judith Michaud found the endzone twice and she does not have much yardage which means she had to find this opening in some of the tightest coverage imaginable in FlagPlus Football. Judith had an outstanding game on the defensive end of things as well. Being the leading tackler and coming up with a pass defense which may have very well altered the outcome of the game.

Big TDs have great defense as well. They really are a complete team on both sides of the ball. This game David Cesari showed Tom what it takes to be the better Cesari. Once again no offence Tom your officiating is above average. David was lights out on the defensive side of the ball. Whenever the ball was thrown in his direction he with stood the challenge. One of the challenges was bringing back an interception for a touchdown which was the turning point of this game. Not only did he have the interception returned for a touchdown but he was always in the right position to make sure nothing got past him.

Michael Scott’s Tots gave Big TDs one of their first challenges this season even though they fell 44-18 but the game was close until one unfortunate mistake switched the momentum and it was hard to get it back.

  • ATH Squad vs. Party Mix

This game came down to the wire as both teams were ready for the competition ahead of them. ATH Squad won the game right before the last five plays of the game as they came out with the 21-12 victory against a very ready Party Mix Squad.

Marc-Antoine Jetté had himself a good game for the ATH Squad as he made smart decisions and made safe throws throughout the night. Sure, he had two interceptions but he had himself a good defense to make sure those turnovers did not cost him the game. He threw three touchdown passes, which gave him the edge in the quarterback battle. On defense he was more of the guy to help his team get sorted but that did not stop him from getting two tackles.

This is the second game that Olivier Laberge has been the man to come up clutch at the most important time. He finished his night with eight receptions and two touchdowns. Including the touchdown that helped secure the victory before the final five plays of the game. He along with Marc-Antoine were the defensive co-captains throughout the game. Although his stats did not show it he helped direct his team in the right position for them to make the play.

Alex Fortier was one of the players on the defense that took the opinion of Marc-Antoine and Olivier and made the most of it. With four tackles and two pass defenses Alex was definitely ready for the Party Mix offense. One of the pass deflections proved to be a huge deal as it prevented what would have been at the time the leading touchdown and things turned around for ATH Squad after that huge defensive stop. Catherine Fortier was also a handful to deal with as she was always right there to make the opposing quarterback change his course and definitely forced him to make some throws he would not have made had he not been rushed so well. Good Work Catherine keeping getting in the face of the quarterback and you will have more than the one sack you go in this game.

François Deslauriers the bandana man himself had a good game while putting protection of the football ahead of anything else. Sure his completion percentage was not the greatest but that is only because he knows not to force throws and he made smart decisions throughout the game. He finished his game with two touchdowns and no turnovers which is the reason why this game was as close as it was. Not only did he protect the ball at all times but he spread the ball amongst all his receivers there was not one particular receiver that he targeted more than others.

Laurence Lamy had a good game defensively with five tackles but it was her one play on offense that was more intriguing. In FlagPlus Football the toughest area of the field to score is in the redzone but do not let that stop you Laurence. Her touchdown came at the very edge of the redzone but she made just enough space for François to place that ball perfectly, right on the numbers for the touchdown. Basically François made a tough job look easy as even his second touchdown pass to Marilou Côté Noël caught a six yard touchdown pass. In my opinion to score a touchdown in the redzone it would need to be a perfect play and Party Mix was able to put together two perfect plays that led to their points total.

In this very tight game defense had to come up with big plays; unfortunately for Party Mix the ATH Squad came up with one more play that gave them the victory. That being said Benjamin Parisien was the defensive main man for Party Mix. He came up with the most tackles of the game with six, not to mention he came up with an interception and a pass defense, which could have put this game further out of reach. He read the field well and he was always at the right place at the right time and made some key plays.

  • Flamingos vs. Power Rangers

Another rough outing for the Flamingos this time it came against a team that is stacked with talent so do not feel too bad Flamingos. Power Rangers came up with a demanding 53-0 win.

They had to go with two quarterbacks as their original starter Tevyn Nicholls was put up against very tough competitors that the defense of Power Rangers has. Tevyn tried his best but it seemed as though everything he tried was read perfectly by the defense he faced. In came Cam Chaput and although he did not play much of quarterback he had a nice completed pass well thrown away from the defenders it was a great throw.

Cam Chaput was also the receiver for Tevyn as he made three receptions for decent yardage. Brandy Mitchell made a nice grab where it did not look as if the ball would get to her but she kept focus on the ball and made the catch. Unfortunately, for the Flamingos their receivers were so well covered by the phenomenal defensive players on the Power Rangers.

The Flamingos defense was out classed by the Power Rangers who were equally as dominant on offense as they were on defense. Other than a couple of tackles here and there, they were simply outplayed. The flamingos just need to find a way to tighten up some loose ends and they will get better results.

Power Rangers Quarterback Kevin Lubin got more than enough help from his defense that being said he made the most of his offensive possessions. He had eight completions and five of them went for touchdowns. To help his defense he added two sacks on the opposing quarterback. He was always in the face of the opposing quarterback making it tough to make plays.

Kevin connected with a couple of his receivers for touchdowns but there was one teammate of his in particular that had the game of her life. Marilou Beland went on an absolute tear. She had three catches and all three of them went for a touchdown. That is just the beginning; on the defensive side, she had two tackles, one pass defense, two interceptions and she turned on the jets to turn one of them into an interception return for a touchdown. Not the only time she turned on the jets she also had a rush that went for a total of 20 yards. She had the game of her life and one of the best all-around performances I have seen in this division so far this season.

The entire Power Rangers defense came to play and they were a nightmare for the opposing quarterback. In total they had five interceptions and three of them turned into touchdowns for the defense. They had broken up two pass plays and to make matters worse for the opposing quarterback they got to them twice. They seemed impenetrable and it will be interesting to see how far that defense will get them.

That’s it for me this week. If you guys have any comments, complaints, criticism, I can always be reached via email ([email protected]) or twitter (@FPF_Stefb) or in person at the fields. I am not hard to find.
