Co-Ed Recap

It’s been two weeks since the last time there was co-ed football and I have been taking the break with them. That does not mean that I would completely forget about the excitement that comes in this division. There was a game that the losing team wishes to forget, there was a game that was pretty one sided, and always my favorite kind of game where it came down to the wire. These are the outcomes from the most recent games in the co-ed division.

Michael Scott’s Tots vs. 3rd Down For What

Here was the game that the losing team wishes never happened and the unfortunate team in this matchup was Michael Scott’s Tots. It was a nightmare for them as nothing went right; it’s as if everything they tried was just predictable. The problem was not that they made constant mistakes, it was the fact that they just could not capitalize at all when given opportunities. Their defense struggled to stop the opposition as well and the time that they did their offence could not make the most of the all important field positioning. The entire game was just a bunch of ingredients that lead to a recipe for disaster and it’s not like them to do so. They have had two weeks to recover and work on their play calling and I am sure they will find a way to come back and get a win. They are hungry for one and they would not be able to stand another poor performance so they will do whatever it takes for the job to get done.

Now 3rd down for what was the complete opposite as they were firing on all cylinders. Although there was one moment in particular that had them feeling uneasy but their defense stood tall and made sure nothing went against them. Overall play from them was spectacular. Incredible display from a team that at times this season were dominant and then not so dominant. Most of the season they were dominant but at times it felt weaker but they still get the job done. Every team would like an easy path to the top and at times this season they had the mental toughness to escape with victories. Mental toughness is a big deal in this game and given how they’ve improved mentally from last season makes it obvious that they have what it takes to win a championship. This week was one of their easier wins but that means they did not underestimate the opponent. Sometimes the way you go into a game is a sign of how the outcome will be. This matchup they faced a team that has been struggling but they went out their played their game and came away with an important win.

The final outcome was humiliating for Michael Scott’s Tots as they were blanked 25-0 but if they can stay mentally tough and just go out there and play their game their next game would be different.

Hot-Dawgz vs. Yin & Yang

This has not been a kind year to the Hot-Dawgz as they suffered another dominating loss. They keep showing up and having fun which I admire the most and they are not a bad team they just need to get used to the ropes of victory in flag football. They have the pieces but there is something missing and that something is a player that knows how to win and knows what it takes to succeed in this league. If they get a player that knows the game they will be in a much better position than they are right now. This season has been rough and they are trying to change things and although it works they need it to be more consistent. Consistency is one of the problems for this team it’s as if they both start strong and fade in the second half or they are nowhere to be found in the first half and flip a switch in the second. They have what it takes to put up the all important points but they need to play at a consistent rate in order to succeed.

Although Yin & Yang came out victorious there were still some things they wish would not have happened. They were not very safe with the ball and they would often force plays. It worked for them in this matchup but if they played the same way against a team that has a better defense the outcome would have indeed been different. They have the pieces to win because in their squad they have veterans who have basically seen it all. They have a system and that system is working but it’s a system designed for when they protect the ball. If they don’t protect the ball there will be teams that will make them pay for their carelessness. Other than that they are a solid team and they have weapons that can alter the outcome of any game. I am curious to see whether or not they protect the ball better and I know that if they do then they should not have much to worry about. Their team has everything it takes including a solid quarterback option, trustworthy receivers, and defensive minded players. If they had this group from the start their record would be a little bit better.

This game was kind of a walk in the park for Yin & Yang as they came away with a 33-12 victory against a team that needs to figure out how to start strong and protect their lead.

TC vs. Party Mix

Without a doubt the game of the week and the record may not show it but these two strong teams are real contenders for the championship. This was a tough pill to swallow for TC as they just could not finish off Party Mix. That doesn’t mean they deserved to lose this matchup. In my opinion they were the better team in this contest and they came within a few yards of achieving victory and handing Party Mix their first loss of the season. It’s been a tough season for TC and although they are coming close they need to find that extra sweetener in order for them to succeed. They have had their fair share of tough losses this season but this indeed has to be the one that stings the most. This is a strong team and if they continue what they have been doing these last few weeks with just a little more spunk they will be dangerous in the upcoming games. Stellar play all around and they also got into the opposing quarterbacks head a little bit and having him force throws one of which was intercepted and capitalized on. Unfortunately this game came down to a single point and I know that this loss will continue being in the back of their minds and they will be hungry for the potential rematch when it matters the most in the playoffs.

The way Party Mix has been playing this year is simply remarkable and I will say this now after this tight win they are indeed my favorite to win the championship. On every end of the spectrum they come out and get it done, whether it is on offence or on defense they are the top team. They have the most points for and they also have the least points against and to top it all off they are 1 point away from doubling their points for on their points against. It is truly remarkable one of the best seasons among any team that I have seen in my time here at FlagPlus Football. Honestly from top to bottom they have talent starting at their quarterback position where they have the favorite for Quarterback of the year. I mean it is his to lose and a quarterback cannot thrive unless he has trusty receivers and he has 2 of them in the top 10 when it comes to touchdown receptions. Their defense is no joke both as they can get into the opposing teams head and throw them off their game entirely. Mark my words unless something drastic happens in the next few weeks Party Mix will be the co-ed champions of spring 2018.

It was not an easy victory but the fashion in which Party Mix showed the character to come away with a 33-32 victory over a very serious threat in TC is phenomenal.

Performers of the Week

Quarterback:  TC Vanessa Birri went 22 / 30 with 228 yards passing and 5 TDs

Receiver:  Party Mix Marc–Antoine Bigué had 6 catches for 79 yards and 3 TDs

Defensive: Yin & Yang Andrew Carruthers had 3 tackles 1 INT and 1 PD

Power Rankings

  • 1- Party Mix: Remained undefeated against a team that gave them their toughest challenge but the mental toughness and the level of skill they have is more than enough to ensure they are the top team.
  • 2- 3rd Down for What: Coming off a dominating victory they have remained the closest team to dethrone the top guys and they battle them this week and the winner of this battle will indeed be the top team next week. Who will it be?
  • 3- Yin & Yang: Continuing to learn the ropes and figuring out what it takes to win they are number 3 but if they had this team earlier in the season they would for sure hold a top 2 spot.
  • 4- TC: Hard fought game against the number 1 team has them moving up this week and if they continue to play with that fire the next two weeks they will indeed climb into the top 3
  • 5- Michael Scott’s Tots: Getting blanked has them sliding down a spot this week as they continue to try and figure out what the problem is this season. They are hungry though and they have a pretty solid matchup coming up. I hope they figure out what needs work soon.
  • 6- Hot-Dawgz: Remaining winless keeps them at the bottom of the table but I see that they are trying to get that first win. Unfortunately they are up against a solid all around team this week and I think they will get outplayed again. Prove me wrong and I will swallow my pride.

Predictions

TC vs. Hot-Dawgz: After the strength of their performance against the top team this week I am sure it left a bitter taste in their mouth and it will indeed make them hungry to come out with the win in this game.

3rd Down for What vs. Party Mix: I love this battle of the top teams but if their last meeting proved anything to me it is that Party Mix has the edge and they have the better team. So I believe they will remain perfect this season and come out with the win.

Yin & Yang vs. Michael Scott’s Tots: I believe that Michael Scott’s Tots is a hungry team and they took this two week break to work out the kinks. They need to play with passion and not get bummed out if things start slowly. If they figure out what their problem is and they had two weeks to do so they will come out of this game victorious.

That’s all for me this week, I am expecting nothing less than intriguing football this week in the co-ed division.
