Championship Weekend

Hello Division 6, nice to meet you!

Some of you may already know me from the Podcasts, but for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of listening to Peeze and I ramble about the most random things and make fun of Moe Khan in the process, well, you missed out!

I won’t make a huge introduction à la Peeze, it’s not my style. I focus on what happened at the fields. All you need to know about me is that I’ve been around for way too long, I’ve been part of the FPF staff for 6 years and I’ve been a player for 8.

Without further ado,

Let’s get started

Week 14

What a crazy finish! The playoffs as a whole were quite the story, but this last week (Quarters and Semis) really blew me away. Fighting Flamingos managed to make the finals scoring only 14 points (WHAT), Vick in a Box look unstoppable, Air Force 1 is the dominant force we’ve said they’ve been all season and Sick_Bick is poised to put on a show one last time. I can’t wait for Saturday

Thoughts of the week

  • It feels weird writing this segment for the first time to you guys. This is something that I write in all of my articles, so I’m not too sure how it’ll be perceived being introduced week 14. Oh well.
  • If any of you guys have questions, feel free to reach out to either Peeze, Eagle or myself at any time. At the end of the day, we’re all here to help!
  • First season and making the finals? Must be a nice feeling.
  • Many of you haven’t had the chance to experience the Road Show yet; you guys are in for a hell of a nice surprise this weekend!
  • Special shout out to Adam Rabinovitch: Two interceptions in a single game is quite the feat, but in the semis? Serious props.
  • One of the dirtiest route I’ve seen in quite some time came from Benji Ziegler (Sick_Bick); Out, up and back in in the back of the endzone. DIRTY.
  • With everything the Road Show requires, I was asked to step in and deliver this week’s article in Peeze’s stead. Trust me, for Peeze to ask someone to write his article, he’s in over his head.
  • It’s crazy to think all 4 1st seeds made the finals.
  • Players of the week is a segment I do every week that rewards the most impressive performances of the previous weeks. I know it’s new for you guys, but it wouldn’t be a Simon article without it.
  • Only ONE ‘not favorite’ team won in Division 6D in all of the playoff race. Only ONCE. That’s INSANE.
  • Oh, and it only happened ONCE in Division 6 too. I can’t even…!
  • Part of me hopes that you guys enjoyed the change of pace this article provided.
  • Good luck to all 4 teams playing on Saturday. It’ll be a blast.
  • Even if your team is eliminated from playoff contention, you should definitely come down to Brossard this weekend and enjoy the festivities. The more, the merrier.

Players of the week

  • Craig Browning (Vick in a Box): A pick-six in a semi-finals game is quite the accomplishment. In fact, he’s the only one who did it this week (In D6 and D6D).

  • Benji Ziegler (Sick_Bick): 4 catches, 67 yards, 4 TDs. Dominant stat line from a special player this season.
  • Nicolas Lessard (Air Force 1): 80 receiving yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions on defence. Is there anything he cannot do?

Finals Preview

  • Vick in a Box (1st) vs Fighting Flamingos (1st)

Previous meeting: N/A

Why Vick in a Box will win: Probably one of the best team to play in Division 6. They’ve been the most dominant team from start to finish and it’s not even close. There’s something about Vick in a Box that people can’t seem to figure out. Either it’s because they are head and shoulder above everybody else and are ‘just better’, but I think there’s more than that. This team is well built, everyone plays well together and they know how to set up their stars to really excel. The trio of Max Burah, Styles Trudeau and Craig Browning has been unstoppable all season and I don’t see why that would change on Saturday. And even in times where the trio was, somewhat, limited, the rest of the team stepped up and made ridiculous plays showing everyone that they aren’t just a supporting cast, but co-stars of their own.

Why Fighting Flamingos will win: Their defence makes you regret every single mistakes tenfold and they won’t allow big plays; they’ll force you to grind the field and they’ll pounce on the very first mistake and create a turnover. This style of play makes them one of the toughest team to face and, with the pressure of the finals on top of that, should be more than enough to get them a championship. Their offence knows how to grind a game down and is very opportunistic. If Fighting Flamingos is able to create the first turnover of the game, there’s a very probable chance that their opponent won’t have the opportunity to claw their way back.

Key factor: Turtle as much as possible

Prediction: 39 – 26 Vick in a Box

  • Air Force 1 (1st) vs Sick_Bick (1st)

Previous meeting: N/A

Why Air Force 1 will win: Air Force 1 is as complete as a team as anyone could potentially hope for. Their offence is multi-facet; they can grind down the clock and be smart with the ball or be one of the most explosive offence in the division and just blow right by you. Simon Blais is having quite the season and he’s putting his name on the map for guys to watch out for in the upcoming seasons. Their defence led by a handful of ball-hawks has been very difficult to play against and they’ve created more turnovers than we can actually count. If one team had to be considered ‘The Total Package’, it’s gotta be Air Force 1.

Why Sick_Bick will win: What these guys are able to do on the field is simply remarkable. Mitch Fergenbaum’s offence is special in so many ways. He’s able to use every single receiver like they are #1 threats and exploits matchups in a way I haven’t seen in lower divisions in a long time. The fact that everyone on Sick_Bick can torch a defender and score a 40-bomb is what makes this team truly special. Their defence is very good, don’t get me wrong, but Sick_Bick is all about that explosive offence. If they can create one turnover on defence, their offence will carry them throughout the rest of the game and put on a show for everyone to enjoy.

Key factor: One stop might be enough.

Prediction: 40 – 37 Sick_Bick
