Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A & B) – Week 6

What a week. Most games went according to predictions but there was also a huge upset! You never can tell can you? R&D are looking really strong and AAA flexed some defensive muscle. But enough chit chat, let’s break this shiz down.

Countdown to Detonation

5. The Rainmakers keep the Jonesers winless as they defeated them 40-33. Ryan Kastner is back as he only had 4 incomplete passes with 6 TD’s and no turnovers. Michael Samman was a scoring machine with 3 touchdowns. Guy Laflamme was instrumental as well as he was not only the leading receiver but he also had the lone Rainmakers interception. The Jonesers QB did a decent job of spreading the ball around and keeping them in the game. Daniel Elisen and Dave Chitayat carried the load of the team but as is the case in many a FPF game, one turnover was crucial and at the wrong time.

4. The Roosters & Donkeys gave it to the Mercenaries 50-26 as the Mercs were without many key players. Not the right week to be missing the best players on your team as you face the top team in the division. Gino Di Fazio struggled against that stellar R&D defense. Both Lanni brothers had an interception while Scoop Gentile spread the ball all over the field tossing 6 TD’s and no picks. This team is going to be tough to beat. Meanwhile the Mercs were not their usual selves so I do not think it is time to hit the panic button yet.

3. The Alkaholiks give Daron World Wide a hangover as they win 37-27. Alex Lever did what he could against this Goliath. He threw 4 TD’s but also 3 INT’s against a great defense. Jordan McLaren had a great game with 2 long scores as well as 3 interceptions off Alks QB Paul Lapierre and Maxime Laflamme continues to produce for DWW. On the other side, Lapierre tossed 5 TD’s, 3 of which were to Alex Pilon who also had 93 yards. On defence, Jamil Springer showed his mettle once again with 2 interceptions. All in all a promising game for DWW against the high caliber Alks squad.

2. AAA did not provide any service to the Triple Sixers as they beat them down 26-0. I have no idea what is going on with the Sixers. Maybe Karim Chaoual has gotten used to lower division competition but I really have no answer for this. AAA definitely does not have the strongest defense in the league, yet the Sixers could not score a single point. Not taking anything away from AAA who laid a beat down of epic proportions and with Rochdi Benabdelkader throwing no less, but this Sixers team has had a huge fall from grace. Stephane Groulx torched the Sixers for 111 yards and a TD. Nicolas Guimier had a good game as well with a pick 6.

1.The most shocking result in recent memory (and no one more surprised than myself) was the Maniax defeating DA Finest 43-36. I had been saying the Maniax had the talent to make noise and did they ever as Rapha Beladjat had a perfect game with 5 TD’s and even 1 rushing.  Beladjat spread the ball all over the place and used J.R. Verger to his best ability with many jump balls which he would rip down. On the other side, Kevin Wyeth had 4 passing TD’s and a rushing TD but also an interception off a deflected pass which turned out to be costly. Akked Moore and Kishon Thompson accounted for the bulk of the offence. It was bound to happen eventually but congrats to the Maniax for chopping down the champs.

BOOM like the explosion on Highway-20 that destroyed the fireworks warehouse and the shocking result of the last game of the week.

So let us dispense some individual achievements.

DA

My Golden Boy this week is Ryan Kastner who had another big week for the Rainmakers with 6 TD’s and an 84% completion rating. Great game and really stepping up to hope for a shot at the playoffs.

My SHOWSTOPPA for DA is Jamil Springer and his 2 interceptions. He always seems to be around the ball. Great work.

DB

My Golden Boy has to be Rapha Beladjat, who led the Maniax to their shocking win over DA Finest. Well played and well managed.

My SHOWSTOPPA for this week is Jordan McLaren who managed a 3-interception performance against a DA opponent. Great work, kid!!!

If you listened to the Podcast then you know who my current top 5 FPF players are. This list is a combination of current stats and historical ability. Some of the choices will almost definitely be controversial. But this is the best part of making the choices. They inspire debate and competition.

In the coming weeks, the debate will only get more heated and intense between Scoop an myself as the choices become more difficult with so many players. Especially given the FPF quality of players now. Also remember that these choices are just opinions. And you know what opinions are like right…..if you don’t know, ask me on the field.

Obviously we all can’t be at the top. But you should also rest assured that if a teammate makes that top 25, you had a hand in helping him get there. It takes a team to win games, to make people stars. No man is a team unto himself and so each time a teammate makes it, it is a positive reflection on you as well.

So players of the FPF, I applaud you!

Shall we preview this week’s games? No…THANKS!! Okay, kidding.

The Alkaholiks face the Rainmakers in a DA showdown of two powerhouses! This will be an awesome game. As we all know both teams are littered with talent. Kastner is playing great football again, yet the Alks have not been beaten yet. The season started with an Alks win by 10. The Rainmakers are playing much better but it seems the Alks are able to do what is necessary to win. I say the Alkaholiks win. Could this be their season of destiny?

The Triple Sixers face the Maniax. This could be the week for a huge let down game after the emotional victory from the Maniax….but not going to happen because to win you need to get in the end zone which somehow the Sixers have forgotten how to do. Maybe Lessard should throw. Rapha Beladjat is going to use his legs and receivers size to secure the victory. Maniax Win.

Roosters & Donkeys face DA Finest in a very interesting matchup. The champ has fallen, now is R&D going to play the role of Jaws with blood in the water and pounce all over the team that will be finishing a tournament in Boucherville earlier that day? R&D have a lot of tools and a great defense. I think this will be a match well worth watching. Make your own picks as I am playing in this game.

The Jonesers take on AAA as they go for their first win. Unfortunately, they are facing one of the toughest teams in DB. AAA seems to get the job done even when missing their QB. The Jonesers and jonesing for a win to say the least. This very talented squad will probably keep it close, but in the end I think the experience and skill of AAA will decide this match.

Daron World Wide play against the Mercenaries in another interesting matchup. Some of the Mercs will also be taking part in the tournament so they might be worn down. DWW is definitely on the lookout for an opportunity to move their position higher. This I believe will be a very good game and I actually am going to take Daron World Wide in an upset given the circumstances. Only time will tell.

The mighty can fall,

Any can rise up.

All teams continue,

To challenge for the same cup.

The season end is near,

Nothing is set in stone.

So keep up the fight,

Sacrifice blood sweat and bone!
