Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A & B) – Week 5

Well we are halfway there and yes a few teams are living on a prayer. The season is heating up now as teams are starting to sweat about missing the playoffs. So let us not waste time and get to the action!!!

Countdown to detonation.

5. AAA makes a service call and dispenses Daron World Wide 38-26. Great game from QB Francois Lebeau with 5 TD passes and 213 yards. Once again the brother tandem connected on 3 touchdowns while centre Nicolas Guimier carried the load but the ball was still spread evenly throughout. Meanwhile Alex Lever did what he could using the Bishara brothers and centre Anthony Comeau for all his scores but he also threw an interception which usually does not bode well if the other QB is error free. AAA sweeps the series against their former teammates Alex Lever and Matt Bishara.

4. The Rainmakers take down the Maniax 46-32. Ryan Kastner returned to old form with a mere 3 incompletions and 7 TD’s. Both Guy Laflamme and defensive specialist Addley Dufour picked up 2 apiece. On the other side of the ball, Rapha Beladjat did not turn the ball over but had problems completing passes as he was a modest 11-25 for 136 and 4 TD’s, all to different receivers. This team has all the tools and fared well against a Div A opponent. Interesting to see where they end up.

3. Everyone has played ‘Where’s Waldo’, well this week it was ‘Where’s Karim Chaoual’ as his Triple Sixers got toasted by DA Finest 61-26. His replacement Yannick Lessard got them in the end zone 4 times….although he equaled that number in interceptions; two of which were made by Garret Taylor. M. Soutiere had over 101 yards receiving for the Sixers. I would tell you his first name but I have no idea what it is! On the side of pure disappointment: Kevin Wyeth threw his first interception of the season. Very sad. Big game for the hair (Rochdi Benabdelkader) with 3 TD’s as well as Akked Moore. Akked’s defender seemed to treat him like he had the Black plague and stayed as far away as possible.

2. The Alkaholiks bring the Doosters and Ronkeys down 26-19. What? Oh…damn dyslexia. R&D Held their own. But Daniele Gentile had some trouble against the All-Star defense that is the Alks butheld his own. Unfortunately for him, he was ejected from the game following his second OC; His replacement James Crowe did not fare very well. When Matt Kirouac is your leading receiver, you know you have big problems. Their defense was stellar accruing 3 interceptions. However one was off of Alex Pilon, who only throws straight to his brother or the opposing defense. Paul Lapierre got the job done in an ugly fashion with only 10 completions 4 TD’s and 2 INT’s. A rough night at the office. Thank God for Alex Pilon’s rushing skills as he had 5 sacks.

1. The Mercenaries fixed the Jonesers 40-25. Gino Di Fazio had a great game with 6 TD’s and of course Carmine Pollice was the main weapon with over 100 yards receiving again. Jon Lyristis did the bulk of the scoring with 3 TD’s. Unfortunately, the Jonesers were without star receiver Ryan Lelinowski because he had to throw the ball. Not a bad job all in all. 4 TD passes and no INT’s while he targeted Dave Chitayat for most of the game as he had 9 grabs for 120 yards. Be interesting to see where this leads the Jonesers. A curious quandary to say the least.

BOOM, Like the Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane yelled as he scored that OT winner. Wrong sport but I read lips.

So I guess we need to name some weekly achievements at this point, and so we shall.

D A

My SHOWSTOPPA this week is Garret Taylor who recorded 2 interceptions. Great job.

The Golden Boy this week can’t be Kevin Wyeth because of that interception. So instead I will give it to Ryan Kastner who did NOT throw an interception and had 7 TD throws.

D B

My SHOWSTOPPA this week is Alex Pilon and his 5 sack performance against R&D. Great job, Flash.

The Golden Boy for this week is the man from James Bond movies. M. Soutiere!! Who had 101 yards and 2 TD’s against a strong Finest squad.

So in D A the season is on life-support for the Rainmakers who are 3 games behind both the Alkaholiks and DA Finest. Can you hear that heartbeat fading? Watch that monitor as it gets closer and closer to a flat line. They need one of he two undefeated teams to ideally lose both games to the other, and hope to beat that same team in their final matchup. This is the ideal situation without hoping for a Div B team to pull off an upset. Should this scenario play out, the Rainmakers would then have to rely on a tiebreaker to get them in.

In D B it has tightened up. R&D still holds top spot after their loss. While the Mercs and AAA are both a single game behind but at a disadvantage in head to head. The real battle is in the basement. Who will miss the playoffs? The Jonesers and still fighting and giving their best but they are still trying to figure out who mans the helm. While the Triple Sixers were without the founder of the feast as Karim Chaoual was MIA, yet they scored more this week than on any other; QB controversy?

It will definitely make for an interesting run to the finish.

Make sure to tune into the podcast and see who our Top 25 players will be coming down the pipe. I like Scoop’s idea of starting from the top and working backwards. Guess we shall see how that turns out.

Now for this week’s matchup previews!

The Rainmakers will face the Jonesers. While the Jonesers are ever improving, it is a very tough task to take down this team. They have been here a long time and will be playing desperate football. That said, two of the Jonesers have been inside the Rainmaker huddle. Will it help? NOPE! Rainmakers win.

Rooster & Donkeys face the Mercenaries. This is a really good game to check out. Can the R&D defense contain the wily veteran Carmine Pollice? Can Gino overcome the determined and athletic R&D defense. This is a game I truly look forward to. Unfortunately I cannot make it, but the good news is it will be featured as this week’s GOTW. I think R&D will win this close matchup thanks to their D.

Daron World Wide faces the Alkaholiks. I know they are not happy about that. I don’t blame them. This is a very strong D A group. DWW has their hands full and I truly believe it will be too much for them on this week. I have to go with the Alks but let’s see how well Lever can move the ball as the Alks hate that constant short game.

AAA faces the Triple Sixers. AAA is a team that I always have problems calling. But this week I feel very confident in saying they will defeat the Triple Sixers who just do not resemble the squad they used to field in yesteryear. Some of the names are the same but for some reason it does not translate on the field and AAA have been doing it well for a while now.

Finally the Maniax will face DA Finest. I am sure that no team in Div B is terribly excited for this matchup but I think this squad likes the challenge. Not to say the others don’t. I know R&D are licking their chops. But needless to say this is a tough game. DA Finest seem to be rolling. But this is why we play the games. Stop by to see what happens. Sadly I will miss this game so best of luck to my squad.

Halfway through the season,

Everything still up for grabs.

Any team can win it,

All except the Habs.

So 5 games left to play,

Then the real season begins.

The battle for an FPF Crown,

Can’t wait to see who wins.

That is it for me here at the FPF writers desk.
