Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A & B) – Week 13

Well the season has come to an end and in dramatic fashion with two great finals being played at the lovely fields in Brossard. If you weren’t there, then here is a recap of how the end of this year’s FPF spring season came to an end.

Countdown to detonation

1. As only I predicted, Daron World Wide defeated the Roosters and Donkeys, in overtime, 42-41. This game was a constant battle. Both QB’s did what they had to do in order to reach overtime. For R&D, I have to say this game had many missed opportunities. Not to mention some suspect play calling. There was a particular 4th down play that all of us on the sidelines were very confused by as Scoop Gentile tried to hit James Crowe after a fake wrap on a play that they had run the prior drive. Danny Gentile had 242 yards passing with 6 TD’s and 2 crucial interceptions. His main target, as usual, was Marco “Sleeves” Masciotra who had 6 grabs for 150 yards and 2 TD’s not to mention the interception for R&D. He would have been the surefire MVP had they won.  Antonio Lanni also had 2 TD’s. But the day belonged to Alex Lever and company. Lever tossed for 186 yards, 6 TD’s and 1 INT. I think Lever might have known that R&D was concerned with Jordan McLaren when in fact they should have been worried about MVP Gordon Hogan who had 65 yards receiving and 3 nice scores. He also had one of the crucial interceptions. Matthew Bishara also had a good game with 2 scores on 79 yards receiving. But in the end, regulation time wasn’t enough. So they went to overtime and the convert battle began. In the end R&D had the option to go for the tie or for the win. They went for the tie and as the results show you, they fell short. After an amazing season by both teams, DWW takes the title and all R&D gets is a rooster in the donkey.

1. The Div A final saw DA Finest realize their goal of 4 straight titles as they defeated the Alkaholiks 45-37. It was a very hard fought game on both sides. There was also only 1 defensive stop the whole game. Both QB’s played error free football as they did not turn the ball over. The Alkaholiks started the game with long, methodical drives keeping the ball out of the DA Finest’s offense’s hands as long as possible. A good strategy considering the first time DA Finest got the ball it was a single 40 yard TD to Pat Jerome. The Alks game plan worked fairly well as they closed the first half tied at 19. It was in the second half that the pace picked up but just a little. Paul Lapierre used Stephane Chartrand and Jon Lyristis non-stop as they had 15 combined catches, 4 touchdowns and 125 yards between them (S.C. 72 and J.L. 53). Even Jacques Void who is coming back from a shoulder separation only 7 weeks earlier contributed with 3 grabs for 58 and a TD. Paul Lapierre had a good game with 220 yards passing and 6 TD’s. But once again the day belonged to Kevin Wyeth. The MVP did what he does best and continued to score almost at will although DA Finest almost got stopped before the half, but Akked Moore once again closed it with a TD for the second finals in a row. Akked had 6 catches for 75 yards and 3 TD’s. Another big game. Wyeth threw for 260 yards and 7 TD’s. It all came down to a very crucial 4th down play where Olivier Bourdages knocked down a passed targeted for Serge Pilon JR. That was all the difference in the top division final.

Funny how most of the time a single stop turns the tide and in this case, it led to 4 straight titles for DA/Montreal’s Finest.

Another year come and gone,

Each div has found its Champ.

Div B Had DWW hoist the gold,

While Div A returned to the DA Finest Camp.

A pleasure to cover and write,

With nicknames a plenty.

With people like Sleeves,

And a Scoop named Gentile.

For the next few months,

Teams will lay out their road map.
But don’t get too far ahead,

Next season has a salary cap.

And so I bid you farewell,

Until we meet again.

On the FPF fields,

When winter season begins.

That is the last installment of Bombsquad’s breakdown for this season. As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the honour of covering these divisions for you. Best of luck to all of you on changing up your squad’s to get a shot at the title. But until that time, another season has been defused.
