Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div 1 & 2) – Week 6

Ladies and germs, another week is in the bag; two games ended up in a no decision and another undefeated team fell. Things are definitely heating up so without further ado…TO THE GAMES!!!

Countdown to detonation.

9. The Top Guns tame the Wild Boys 40-33. Mario Porecca had a great game throwing 6 TD’s and 4 of those were to the Meshesha brothers. Yadel Meshesha also had an interception to really help his team on the defensive side of the ball. Matt René didn’t have a bad game for the Wild Boys, throwing for 255 and 5 TD’s but that pick hurt. The Perry brothers once again took up the bulk of the scoring with Ryan making a huge Hail Mary catch to end the first half. Just wasn’t enough in the end.

8. In a game that was hyped to be a shootout, the only disappointment was the final outcome, as Montreal’s Finest tied the Rainmakers 46-46. The Rainmakers had a great game and were the team in the lead the entire game up until the second-to-last play where the Finest tied it up after a huge goal line stand by their defense. Kastner and Wyeth were both great. Both used their centres for the bulk of the workload. Big performances by Marc Champagnie for the Finest with 2 TD’s on 99 yards and Bobby Mikelberg for the Rainmakers with 3 TD’s on 70 yards. Great game, too bad there was no winner. The Finest remain undefeated.

7. The Express destroy the Mercenaries 52-13. Gino Di Fazio threw 6 interceptions, three of them to Nick Arsenault-Hum who even took one back to the house- as did Bruno Colette on his pick. Chenard was stellar again without SCC. Hitting Joe Mbaya for 3 scores. The Express are looking better each week. The Mercs should just put this week behind them and forget it. Never think of this game again!

6. The Gladiateurs edge Terror Squad 47-45 in a great back and forth game. Terror Squad kept themselves in the game with a few amazing defensive plays; two pick 6’s from Jo Duclair and Sébastien Deschamps. But Tam Vilaydeth also threw 2 interceptions to Matthew Bishara which were very costly. Francois Lebeau had another huge game in yardage. I heard people on the sidelines saying he gets so many yards because his defense is hardly ever on the field since the opposing team scores so quickly. Well the D got 2 picks on this day and won the game even with Pat Jerome gaining 101 yards and 2 TD’s.

5. In a great game and upset, Purple Haze took down their second undefeated team in consecutive weeks, beating Flag Moi L’Sac 33-30. So they are human. This was a great game. Both teams made defensive stops and some beautiful plays on offence. Felix Prevost was a monster once again for L’Sac with 3 TD’s and 102 yards receiving.  But once again Nincheri hooked up with Robinson for 3 scores as well as with Guillaume Robert for an additional 2. Converts were huge in this game as L’Sac did not convert any at all and it was the difference in the game. Div. 2 no longer has an undefeated team.

4. The Bills beat the Wolfpack 31-19. I guess the Wolfpack can look at the positive as they held the Bills to 31 points. But it is a bad day when your QB throws the same amount of TD’s as INT’s, which fill-in Michel Carrier did with three. Alexandre Martin was the lone brightspot for the Pack as he caught all 3 TD’s for 117 yards in the losing cause. Chad Byers had a modest game with 4 TD’s passing. He also spread the ball all over the field. Pierre Ianniciello was huge on defense with 2 INT’s and 1 pass defended. The Wolfpack is falling apart. Someone needs to throw them a lifeline or they are going to drown.

3. The team with their little r thingy, TG, defeats the Pantheres 44-32. Mike Grilli threw for over 300 yards in his losing effort and once again Dany Ostiguy comes up huge with 9 grabs for 125 yards and 3 TD’s. Unfortunately Grilli had another 2 interceptions which really hurt the cause.  But it was Paul Lapierre with his 13-16 and 266 yards that ruled on this day. Did I mention the 7 TD passes? And who else would come up huge but Jacques Void with 157 yards and 3 TD’s. Monster weekend for the kid who in Div. 3 caught 8 passes for 7 touchdowns, figure that one out.

2. In the second useless game of the weekend, the Wolverines tied the Ducks 38-38. Tony Tabet had a very strong game spreading the ball all over the field and rushing for a TD. Raffi Kozanian was big with 67 yards and 1 TD as were Shane Paquette, with 8 grabs and a TD, and Sevag Kaloussian, who had 2 scores. The Ducks QB Manuel Crisi-Lauzon was equally strong with 6 TD’s, 3 of which went Francois Martorello and 2 more to Kenny Baye. But like I said, a tie game is the same as making out with your first cousin.

1. The Hall of Famers take down the Pantheres 52-33 in the Pantheres second loss of the weekend. The Pantheres went score for score with the HOFers and even held an eight point lead about halfway through the game, but in the end the HOF offense was too much.

Now for all of you talking on the Facebook wall about the Hall of Famers’ Adam Crystal, and whether you think he is for real or not; he had 10 catches for 166 yards and 6 TD’s. He is at 27 TD’s for the season in Div. 2 -not Div. 4. Sure, he gets the most passes, but the defense knows where they are going and he still makes plays. I will be honest; I am not a big fan of his attitude. He needs to stop kissing the ball after TD’s and ease up on the celebratory stare-downs and I will cheer for him like I do QB Justin Smolar, who is sitting at 44 TD’s for the season, 7 this game. The Pantheres need to start getting some wins but their schedule is definitely not helping them.

BOOM! Just like the comments on the Facebook wall blew up this past week.

Individual awards, fine!

Div. 1

Has to go to Jacques Void on this weekend with his 157 yards and 3 TD’s bringing the little r thingy a victory and that much closer to being a real ‘R’ one day.

The SHOWSTOPPA has to be Nicolas Arsenault-Hum who had 3 interceptions and also took one to the house. Big game!!

Div. 2

My Golden BOYS with an S on the end goes to Adam Crystal, of course, but also to his QB Justin Smolar, who everyone seems to forget is the one who throws Crystal the ball. You know the stats! Great job boys. And Crystal, I’m watching….

The SHOWSTOPPA for Div. 2 this week is the entire Purple Haze defence, who did what two Div. 1 teams could not and that is hold Flag Moi L’Sac to 30 points and earn a victory.

Well here we are after 6 weeks. There will be no perfect season in either division 1 or 2. There is only 1 team that hasn’t lost, but they have a tie.

Div. 1 is really tight across the board with teams very close at the top and the battle for the last playoff spot at the bottom is heating up with TG and the little r thingy and the Express. If Montreal’s Finest wins this week, they will have clinched a playoff spot.

IN Div. 2, the East is still where all the power lies with 4 of the 6 teams not only have winning records but have 9 points or more. In the West only 1 team has a winning record and then 3 teams are tied at 2-4. Right now the playoff scenario is very simple. If the season ended today, there would be 5 teams with winning records and 3 with losing ones.

There is still a lot of season left to play and things are really starting to heat up in the lower rankings. Everyone wants it and they seem to just beat up on each other. It is really going to be a tight finish and the last spots will be claimed for sure in the last week.

It is still anyone’s season to make a mark. Pull it together and get the job done!!!

Let’s preview a few games for next week.

Purple Haze take on the Mercenaries. This is a great game with Nincheri taking on Pollice, even if he isn’t throwing. These teams will be very hyped to play each other. The Mercs are on a two-game skid and the Haze have just taken down two undefeated teams in a row; I think their momentum is going to carry them to another victory this week. Haze win, but in a close game.

Montreal’s Finest takes on the surging Express. This team has been having monster games the last couple of weeks, while the Finest are coming off a tie against the Rainmakers. You know the faces and the names. The Finest have some history with Express, having lost to them on the grandest of stages a few years ago. I am sure the Express want to establish that they are back and here to stay, and what better way to make a statement than by handing the Finest their first loss! Guess we shall see how this unfolds!

The Bills take on the Rainmakers. Clash of the Titans. The Rainmakers and Bills have been to war so many times they might as well draw names from a hat to make up the teams as they know each other so well. The Bills are conducting their business as usual, compiling win after win. But the Rainmakers seem a little different this season. A little more fire in their belly I would say.  This will be a great game, but I just think it feels like the Rainmakers want it more this year. I am going to say Rainmakers win.

The Wolverines get their shot at the big dogs as they face Flag Moi L’Sac. The Wolverines have looked much improved in recent weeks. And L’Sac is coming off their first loss of the season. I know the Wolverines want this bad and will do what it takes to win. But I think L’Sac is just too angry from that blemish on their record and will come out guns-a-blazing to avenge their loss. I am going to say L’Sac win.

And here we are,

The end of Week Six.

And what do you know,

Stade Hebert should be fixed.

Time to step up,

Show the world you are gamers.

And for the love of Christ,

Shut up about the Hall of Famers!!

That is it for this week. As always you can email or Tweet me. Twitter is probably better. @DonaldWShepherd or email at [email protected] with your latest complaints about snow removal and FPF fashion flops! But until then, another week has been defused.
