Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div 1 & 2) – Week 4

Back to life, back to reality. At least for me who is fresh off four days of fun in the sun. But I will admit, I missed being at the fields and I see that there were some amazing games. So let’s take this journey together and recap last week’s action. To the GAMES!!….that means follow me…jeez.

Countdown to detonation.

8. The Wolfpack got tamed by the Wild Boys 26-33. Michel Carrier was at QB this week, but the Pack still came away with the same results. Carrier threw for 164 yards, 4 TD’s and 1 INT. The bright spot was seeing big man Alain Rousseau step it up with a big game and 2 of the 4 TD’s scored on 75 yards.  But this day belonged to Matt Rene who tossed 5 TD’s. Three to the Perry brothers, Ryan and Rashawn, and the other two to Nigel Thomas, who surprisingly can get his hands above his shoulders. The Wolfpack are running out of time if they wish to make their usual late season run. The Wild Boys got a much deserved and needed win.

7. Well I guessed I gave somebody some extra motivation as Flag Moi L’Sac take down their second top ranked division 1 team, defeating the Rainmakers 31-27. Both QB’s did not turn over the ball and had almost identical stats. But it was the rushing of Alex Nadeau-Piuze that set the 2 QB’s apart. Kastner did what he had to do spreading the ball around the field and using C.A. Sinotte for most of the yards and brother Derek Kastner for 2 of his 4 TD’s passed. But Piuze was equally efficient spreading the ball and hitting JP St-Pierre for two of his 4 passing TD’s. This team has guys coming on and off the field on offense and defense. The Rainmakers are a very good team but Flag Moi L’Sac has now beaten them and the Bills. Who is going to stop them in D2?

6. Montreal’s Finest smoked the Purple Haze 52-31. The Finest’s centre this game was the work horse! Karim Binette grabbed 7 balls for 102 yards and a score. I think their other centre better watch his back or he might lose his starting position. (Editor’s note: Wally Pipp, anyone?) It was once again Guillaume Ward with a big scoring game as he added 3 TD’s and an INT on defense. Rochdi Benabdelkader and Akked Moore rounded out Wyeth’s 7 TD performance. On the other side, QB Rick Nincheri used his own Guillaume– only his last name is Robert, for 2 scores as well as centre Sean Kennedy for another two with 8 catches and 98 yards. I guess Nincheri has finally figured out how to effectively use his centre. As usual Nincheri spread the ball well but it just wasn’t enough for to beat the current Div 1 champs.

5. The Mercenaries take down the Pantheres 40-18. Gino Di Fazio seems to realize that when Carmine Pollice is not throwing the football, he is equally good at catching TD’s as he had 2 of Di Fazio’s 5. Not to say he doesn’t have other weapons as Jon Lyristis and deep threat Adam Bailey both scored as well. Bailey also was a thorn in Mike Grilli’s side as he picked him for 6. That being 1 of the 3 INT’s Grilli threw, matching his TD output. Dany Ostiguy and Fred Brunet continue to shine for Grilli. The team needs a win in a big way and could this be the right combination for the Mercs to really make a run?

4. Well, well. TG with the annoying little r had a rough ride against the Div 2 Hall of Famers and top receiver Adam Crystal who managed 3 TD’s against a rough bunch. It still wasn’t enough as TG won 39-33 over H.O.F.  The H.O.F. defense was introduced to Jacques Void and Stephane Chartrand. The self-proclaimed Dr. Pepper combo combined for 115 yards and 3 touchdowns. Shane Williams and Mark Deslauriers rounded out the TG scoring. Justin Smolar still had a strong game. Tossing only a single pick and 5 TD’s for 216 yards. Ryan Lelinowski and JR Verger (formerly of the Mercs) also had scoring grabs.  I guess it is time to say Hall of Famers are looking like they are for real. A great game should take place March 11th against L’Sac. TG and their annoying little r are stilling plugging away and getting stronger.

3. Sometimes, even I get it right as the Terror Squad fell to the Top Guns 25-38. It was the Top Gun defense that made most of the difference. And the fact that Terror Squad were without Pat Jerome. Tam Vilaydeth threw 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s. Corey Greenaway had a big game with 98 yards receiving on 8 receptions and 2 TD’s and Maxime Paterson also had a strong game with the other TD on 6 grabs. But this day belonged to QB Mario Perreca as he had a 5 TD performance with no turnovers. Speedster Nick Gaudreault had 2 scoring grabs as did Yadel Meshesha. This team has been taking their lumps and now they are giving some back. Watch out for them. As for Terror Squad, not having Jerome can always lead to problems.

2. The Bills pummeled the Wolverines 53-27. As I mentioned last week, it looks like the Bills are back. And Chad byers was stellar with 7 TD passes and 222 yards with only 5 incompletions. The only blemish was 1 interception. Big man Geoff Beauchesne was the work horse with 3 TD’s and Pierre Iannniciello followed close behind in yards and scoring with 2 TD’s. The Bills defense also picked QB Tony Tabet 3 times. All three coming from Raymond Hall, who is kind of hard to miss out there. Raffi Bastadjian continues to be consistent for Tabet but this has been a very hard season for the squad. The have lost to 3 of the top teams from both divisions. I don’t think we can truly judge this team until we see how they do over the next few weeks against other opponents.

1. In another surprise the Express fall to the Gladiateurs 35-33. Pat Chenard had a strong game at QB but couldn’t make the converts. He is really going to have to figure something out because his counterpart Francois Lebeau made enough converts to make the difference between winning and losing. Chenard had 5 TD’s passing. Lebeau had 4 and 1 rushing. I will say I am really surprised to see Simon Charbonneau-Campeau (Who will now be referred to as SCC because that is just way too much to write) with only 2 catches. The Glads are not a big team and that should have been a natural mismatch. But once again the Glads got the job done. Matthew Bishara had 2 scores and the ball was spread across the board. Same old story for the Glads but what in the world is going on with Express?

Boom. Like the Express’ chances at a Championship if things keep up. Some weekly awards maybe? Yeah I know you want them.

Div 1

I’m sorry everyone but after throwing 7 TD’s for 288 yards and no interceptions, my Div 1 Golden Boy this week has to be QB Kevin Wyeth. Well earned.

The SHOWSTOPPA for Div 1 has to be the 3 INT performance of the big man Raymond Hall. Monster game on D!!!

Div 2

The Golden Boy this week is not the obvious choice to most but he is to me. Alex Nadeau-Piuze led his team to a victory over the Rainmakers who were, at the time, undefeated in Div 1!! On the ground and through the air he did what he had to do against one of the best FPF teams out there so congrats!

The SHOWSTOPPA this week is Yafet Meshesha of the Top Guns, who had a pick 6 and 4 tackles in my upset pick of the week. Great game!

Over the last week while I was drinking a margarita on the beach watching bikini clad women stroll by, I had some questions pop in my head. Some random questions…so I bring them to you….the people. (Said in my best Bane impersonation)

Bombsquad’s Deep Thoughts

Will SCC and Pat Chenard renew their love affair of yesteryear and return Express to their glory days?

Will Flag Moi L’Sac choose a better name if they win the Div 2 title?

When will the Wolverines and Wolfpack get a win and will Tony Tabet ever call an audible in English?

Which undefeated team will be the first to lose?

Will Adam Crystal go out and purchase a yellow Hall Of Fame jacket a la Chad Johnson?

And will the Hall of Famers find a defense? Scored the most in the divisions but have given up the most points as well.

Why Terror Squad? Are they supposed to inspire fear? And how could they with such a cute little QB who is such a nice guy?

Will TG’s little strange r thingy ever grow up and become a big R and make its way in the world?

Will we ever see the Kastner brothers have an argument….wait will we ever see a Kastner get mad?

Will Tony Khoury ever wear 2 socks of the same colour?

Will Jacques Void and Rochdi Benabdelkader ever face off in a hair match with the loser being shaved?

Will Rehan Sarwar read this article and notice he was mentioned?

Is it possible for Carlton O’Brien to smile any larger in his profile pic?

Why did they reduce the size of the men’s body wash bottle at Bath & Body works?

These are just some of my random thoughts. I am sure we will have another week of random thoughts.

Now we shall preview some games. That sounds like fun.

In a major Div 1 heavyweight battle, the Bills take on TG and the r thingy. Paul Lapierre is finally developing chemistry with his receivers and Chad Byers never lost his. Both teams have such strong defenses and powerful offenses. Basically a who’s who of FPF. I can’t tell if it will be a shootout or a defense battle. I look at both sides and everywhere you look the matchups are strong. To pick a winner is hard but I think the Bills have been playing together so much longer that I have to give them the edge in a tough battle. But go see this game!

In another great matchup Purple Haze will face off against the Gladiateurs. Francois Lebeau is once again having a great season and the Silver Fox, Rick Nincheri is finding his groove right now. Once again, we see big names on both squads. The Gladiateurs always seem to step up in big games. But I think Purple Haze has that same ability. I think this one is going to be a shootout and in the end I think once the haze clears, Purple Haze will squeak out a close win.

The Wolverines face off against the pumped up Top Guns who just earned their first victory. Top Guns are a young team with a lot to prove and they just defeated a great team. The Wolverines are a team in a spiraling decline. Unable to win a game. But like I mentioned earlier, you have to look at who they played. And they played some great teams. I think Top Guns have all the tools to win this game. But I just think the Wolverines want this one too bad and they will win this match.

I have to say I feel really bad for the Ducks. They have a double header this weekend and they are facing off against two of the strongest teams in Div 2. Flag Moi L’Sac and the Hall of Famers. They will need to stop Justin Smolar and Adam Crystal if they have a hope against H.O.F in their first match.   I hope they build some momentum against H.O.F. to try and keep up with the Div 1 killing machine of L’Sac. That team is beating everyone. But I can’t see it. I am sorry to say that I think the Ducks will lose both games. But I really hope they prove me wrong. They play hard and with fire. Best of luck and I hope the results are different from my prediction.

The games are set,

To the halfway point we head.

Wins are what’s needed,

Missing the playoffs is what we dread.

So step up your game,

Show the league who are.

To the finals you wish,

To become an FPF Star.

That is it for me this week. You can email or tweet me your own random thoughts or game predictions to [email protected] or on Twitter @DonaldWShepherd . Best of luck in the week again. Until next time, another week has been defused.
