Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div 1 & 2) – Playoffs Week 1

And here we are, the stage is set. The lighting is organized and the players in this production are ready to go. We have all played to get to this point and now the time is upon us to play the game. So let us take a look at the matchups for this first round and see what we can see shall we? Here we go.

In the first match of the weekend we have Purple Haze taking on the Gladiateurs. In week 5, the Haze defeated the Glads 48-45. Both QB’s had very strong games and both had amazing seasons overall. This game will be a very hard fought battle. I hate picking against the Gladiateurs because they always seem to get the job done in the playoffs. But Purple Haze, to me, have always looked more like a Div 1 team and not a Div 2 team. So I am going to take the Haze to win this game.

In a rematch of the last game of the season, the Mercenaries face the Wild Boys. I really thought the Wild Boys would step up in the last week of the season but instead they got pounded. These teams know each other so well as former teammates face off once again. The Mercenaries have tons of experience behind them. The Wild Boys have tons of athleticism. I do not think it will be another blow out but I do believe experience will pay off and the Mercenaries will win this game.

Terror Squad faces the Top Guns who come limping into the playoffs. Now the Top Guns won the season matchup 38-25. But they haven’t won a game since week 6 and even then they only won 2 all season. But the Guns are an interesting match for Terror QB Tam Vilaydeth. They are a team with exceptional speed and athletic ability, but so is Terror Squad, and they have something much more important….experience. Mainly, FPF experience. Pat Jerome and Corey Greenaway have been at this with Tam for a while now and they are a force to be reckoned with. I think that experience will see the Squad through to the next round.

In another great playoff game, Flag Moi L’Sac faces the Hall of Famers and receiver of the year Adam Crystal. The only time these two teams met, L`Sac won 31-18 and that was with a replacement quarterback. More importantly, L`Sac only let Crystal score twice. That is the key. Don`t get me wrong, these two teams can light up the score board. The only problem is H.O.F. are missing a strong defense. Something that Flag Moi L`Sac had the best of in all Div 2. They gave up 61 less points then the next lowest defense. That is what H.O.F. will have to face and that is where this game will end. And forget that this time L`Sac will have Alex Nadeau-Piuze behind centre. Sorry guys, but Flag wins this one.

In the first of the two games in the Div 1 semi-finals, Montreal`s Finest takes their shot against TG and the little r thingy. These teams met on the first game of the year and TG was without some of their core players such as Shane Williams, Mark Deslauriers and Andy Peterkin. This was also a very new team. TG had yet to really play together as a unit and was in a getting-to-know-you phase. Like that first date. NOT the kind of date the little r thingy went for at the Super Bowl. This team has grown by leaps and bounds and this game pits the 2 top statistical QB`s in Div 1 against each other. The Finest are a seasoned group and know what they must do. They have a history of struggling after bye weeks although this year they pulled out a 21 point victory after the Super bowl bye. No doubt about it, this will be an incredible game.

Game two sees the Bills facing the Rainmakers. The Bills won 40-38 in their only meeting this year. All came down to converts. The Rainmakers even had a chance to tie the game. Both QB`s were outstanding. Bills` QB Chad Byers used centre Geoff Beauchesne to perfection with 4 TD`s to the big man. Ryan Kastner decided to use Bobby Mikelberg and C.A. Sinotte to do most of his scoring with 5 between the tandem. The problem in this game was a lack of defence, although both teams managed to get a stop. This time I believe it will be the same up and down game we have come to expect from these two offensive powerhouses. Both teams are so difficult to stop so it may come down to who has the ball last. But I just feel that this is the Rainmakers year to make a deep run. I think they are going to beat the Bills and move into the finals for the Div 1 Championship.
