Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 7

Bombsquad’s Breakdown Week 6

Mercy William, Mercy. Great line from Braveheart and it should have been said at least twice this past week. This week was a very one sided week and two of the beaten teams were missing their starting QB’s. Or were they? Let’s see.

Countdown to detonation.

3. The Mercenaries trounce the One Night Stands 51-14 who were once again without Craig O’Brien and now possibly for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, the two ‘Receiver of the Year’ candidates for the Mercs towed the lined doing all the scoring and the bulk of the yards as well. Jacques Void had 76 yards with 2 TD’s and Paul Lapierre had 49 yards and yes, 4 TD’s!! He’s a machine. Carmine Pollice only needed 14 completions to defeat the One Nighters who had Brett Burchell at the helm. This guy is pretty quick but will definitely need a week to warm up. Although he did face a tough Mercs defence who picked him 3 times. But is that wise considering he won’t even be eligible for the playoffs? Better question. Will O.N.S. even make the playoffs? Stay tuned!

2.  Ryan Kastner and the Rainmakers destroy the Kingz 54-30. Another 300 yard game for Kastner and 8 TD’s. Six receivers caught touchdowns and 7 receivers caught passes. Not to mention he seems to be building chemistry with Shane Williams, so look out. Kastner is on fire and the Kingz are plummeting. Francois Lebeau spread the ball well and threw 5 TD’s and 202 yards but that also includes 2 interceptions. He still favours his brother Marc-Andre but the whole offense contributed on this day. I still can’t put my finger on what is wrong with this team but they have the chance to turn things around this week as they face the team who provided them their only win this season. As for the Rainmakers, with their win, we now have a three way tie for first.

1. DA Finest got revenge against the Triple Sixers 44-14, but not the kind they wanted as the Sixers were without QB Karim Chaoual. The highlight of this game was the return of Andre Knights. Some of you may be wondering, “Who is Andre Knights?”. I once asked myself that same question and it turned into much more than a question. He is the person who caught 9 balls for 99 yards and 4 touchdowns. DA Finest’s defence was able to contain QB Corey Greenaway to a certain extent but most importantly in the red zone. JF Marcotte was still the offensive machine for his team but it wasn’t enough on this day as Kevin Wyeth welcomed the return of the prodigal son. Guess we won’t get to see what would happen if both teams fielded full squads unless they meet in the playoffs.

Boom! Like the sound Martin Lawrence made when he appeared in the past in Black Knight, and so we heard that sound this past Sunday.

This week’s Golden Boy has to be Andre Knights who after such a long layoff came back to put up 99 yards receiving and 4 TD’s. Great job Dre!

This week’s SHOWSTOPPA would have to be Garret Taylor of the Mercenaries who had 2 picks and 1 tackle. Good job to the Mercs defence as a whole.

I would like to take this moment and talk about our league. A lot of the people playing in this league take it very serious and follow their own stats and stats in general and I have heard people talking about this. They say I can’t believe people get this serious or follow so closely. I am here to say there is nothing wrong with this. Most people have hobbies. Some birdwatchers will drive hundreds of kilometres in the middle of the night to be at a certain location at dawn to have the simple opportunity to see a certain bird. There is no guarantee that he will see this bird but he drives there anyway. A lot of people would call him crazy. But it is what he loves to do.

I like going on Facebook and reading how many posts get the members going. Or how many replies there are on the hot topics. This league is all that some of our players have and they love it. Let them follow as closely as Alex Porras if they want to. We have a great league that is unique in the way it is covered and displayed. Take from it what you will but there is no need to look down your nose at those who have made it their hobby and passion to engage in the extra curricular’s of FPF.

This is our league and the great thing about our league is you can take as much or as little of it as you choose. The choice is yours. So read as much or as little, watch as much or as little, play as much or as little as YOU want. And make this league your own.

And now some picks shall we. Playoffs loom so we must pay closer attention. All of the games take place this Sunday at Catalogna.

The One Night Stands take on the Triple Sixers. Who will QB the One Nighters? Not sure but it won’t make a difference this week. Karim Chaoual missed last week and I’m sure he’s fired up to stay atop the division with the other two teams. I think this game will be a 12 point win for the Triple Sixers.

The Kingz try to recapture week one glory as they take on DA Finest. Can they beat this squad again? Can they contain Andre Knights who is here for one more week? Can DA Finest exercise their one full squad loss of the season? I honestly believe that the Kingz are confident they can win and take down this team the same way they did in week one. It will be a good match I am sure. We’ll see what happens.

To round out the week the Rainmakers take on the Mercenaries. When these two teams met in week one the Rainmakers prevailed on a very nice final play of the game to win by one point. I know the Mercs are eager to play this team again and I am pretty sure we will see another glorious shootout. Personally I find it very hard to call but I am going to give the edge to the Mercs this week to beat the Rainmakers. Come watch the show.

All the news,

That’s fit to print.

Week 1 rematches,

Is each team’s stint.

The season draws down,

We can all see the end.

Then it is time,

For the real season to begin.

Well thank you for letting me batter your eyes and senses with my usual weekly rant. Tune in next week when we shall debate the finer points of knitting and crochet. You can reach me at [email protected] with notes for our debate or complaints about the attire of players in our division. But until then, another week has been defused.
