Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 5

Welcome to another instalment of FlagPlus Football’s dinner theatre. I am your host, Donald Bombsquad and with me as always is the past week and the upcoming week of flag football action. Our guest star this week is a surprise, so read along and enjoy the ride.

Countdown to detonation.

3. DA Finest dismantle a Craig O’Brien-less O.N.S 40-18. Remember that challenge I mentioned last week? That if Jeff Millar were to pick Kevin Wyeth that he had to walk off the field? Well, I assumed Mr. Wyeth would just stay away from Mr. Millar – I was gravely mistaken. Millar covered Kishon Thompson for the majority of the game. Thompson had 7 catches for 130 yards and 5 TD’s. I think I made my point. One thing that was fairly impressive is the O.N.S. squad ran a triple option play with success. Besides the aforementioned story lines there is not much else to say about this game.

2. In, easily, the game of the week, the Triple Sixers took down the Rainmakers 34-33. In a surprising development the Sixers once again showed us the parity in Div A. Karim Chaoual tossed for 180 yards and 5 TD’s. Very similar to Ryan Kastner’s 226 yards and 5 TD’s. Man oh man can you see how important converts are now? The Sixers had Pat Jerome again this week and he made a huge difference scoring 3. Tim Kraemer is still proving to be a huge acquisition as he had 84 yards receiving and 2 TD’s. The Rainmakers were short a few players but had a chance to score on the last play and didn’t. Great work by rusher Tam Vilaydeth to sack Kastner twice on the final drive.

1. The Mercenaries royally thump the Kingz 43-16. In an uncharacteristic game, Francois Lebeau threw 3 interceptions while only completing 50% of his passes. This was a forgettable game for the Kingz. An Adi Sharma defence strikes again as Mr. Sharma even had an interception of his own. As for Carmine Pollice, it was another day at the office, as he threw for 239 yards and 7 TD’s, three of which were to receiver of the year leading candidate Paul Lapierre, who is Pollice’s favourite target and shines as the team’s leading receiver. Lapierre is having an enviable season by anyone’s standards and is the sparkling offensive weapon on this team.

Boom. Just like the sound a tree makes when it falls in the forest- or does it?

This week’s Golden Boy is Kishon Thompson- thanks to Jeff Millar, who threw out that challenge which got Kevin Wyeth’s motor running- not to take anything away from the great route running and hands of Thompson. 130 yards receiving and 5 TD’s gives you the belt this week.

This week’s SHOWSTOPPA is Adi Sharma who had 1 interception but called a game that caused Francois Lebeau to turn over the ball three times, which is unheard of. Just ask Mr. Sarwar. Great job Adi.

This week I would like to take a moment and discuss something that everyone always seems to be talking about: the referees. It seems as I walk the sidelines every week, someone has to put their two cents in on a certain call or the quality of the game calling by our Refs. First I would like you all to realize that Refs are people,  just like you or me. They are fallible, just like you and me. If you get in a Ref’s face all the time how can you expect him to just shake it off? If I came to your work and yelled in your face all the time, you would hate my guts. These Refs take a lot of abuse but they are there for our benefit. They also do a very good job. At the end of the game, take a moment and review how many calls you thought were bad. Now take a look at how many calls were bang on. I am sure the percentage of right calls is easily in the nineties. Our Refs do a great job. Much better than you or I could.

Here is the most important thing to remember. Regardless of how you feel about the referees, the other team has the same referees calling the game. Who are you playing against? There is nothing you can do but play your game. You can’t say it’s not fair because you are both in the same boat. Focus on your opponent, and let the Refs do their job. Accept the fact- and this is the hardest thing, that it is possible that you do not know everything there is to know about football. It is impossible for two men to see everything at all times and yet we all seem to feel that these men should be held at the same standard of NFL referees.

Play your game. At the end of the game go to your ref and say thank you, regardless of the outcome. They have better things to do than be yelled at by us all the time. They have families and lives. They are people- just like you- and me.

We have some amazing games this week so let’s talk amongst ourselves. I’ll give you a topic.

Mercenaries go for revenge gainst DA Finest. In week 3, Kevin Wyeth finally got the demons off his back by defeating the Pollice-led Mercenaries. Can lightening strike twice? I’m sure Pollice and crew are very much looking forward to this rematch. As am I. Tune in Thursday in Brossard for the results!

That same night the One Night Stands take on the Rainmakers. Will O.N.S. have Craig O’Brien? I don’t think it will change the outcome. I think this will be a good match but Kastner and company have a lot of weapons to try and shut down and I think it might be too much for the One Nighters this week. I could be wrong of course, but I’m taking the Rainmakers who took down O.N.S. 52-30 in week 3.

The Kingz look to get back in the groove and avenge their week 3 loss to the Triple Sixers. These teams are moving in two different directions as the Sixers just defeated the Rainmakers and the Kingz got romped. I like the way the Sixers are playing. Although I know the Kingz can easily right the ship, I still think the Sixers will once again take them down.

Another week done,

As we all can see,

Another week coming,

The same as week 3.

The games are set,

Time to set things right,

Each loss to be avenged,

Is the losing team’s plight.

Well that’s it from us here at FlagPlus Football dinner theatre. Tune in next week as we shall do Much Ado About Nothing and discuss how many touchdowns Paul Lapierre has at this point. As always I can be reached at [email protected] with errors or tomfoolery, but until then another week has been defused.
