Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 3

Bombsquad’s Breakdown Division A Week 3

Another exciting week in D A! We had the Rainmakers pour it on O.N.S. (without Craig O’Brien), Karim Chaoual and the Triple Sixers take down the Kingz and in what I referred to as the game of the week last week, two former Empire members aligned to take on the Empire’s Mercenaries as Kevin Wyeth exercised his demons by finally beating Carmine Pollice in dramatic fashion. But let’s get to the action and see how it all went down.

Countdown to detonation.

3. The Rainmakers drown O.N.S. like a mangy dog in a river 52-30. Of course the biggest reason for this is the fact that O.N.S. needed to field a team against a very strong club without their field general Craig O’Brien. So we had Jeff Millar play QB. He did an admirable job going 8-18 for 167 yards and 3 TD’s, albeit 7 of those completions were to Ryan Brewster who lit it up for 138 yards and 2 TD’s. But the Rainmakers were just too much with their full squad and the return of winter add-on Tim Kraemer. Ryan Kastner spread the ball around so well he completed touchdowns to 6 different receivers. The most impressive stat of this game is that the Rainmakers generated 10 points off five 2-point converts! It was too difficult a task for David to slay Goliath on this day. These two teams meet again in week six, so I really look forward to seeing what O.N.S. can do with a full squad as they managed to put up 30 without their QB.

2. DA Finest go down to the wire against the Mercenaries and squeak out a W 40-33. In a battle of Hall Of Fame quarterbacks Kevin Wyeth finally managed a win against a Carmine Pollice-led team. This game went back and forth, end to end and each team was basically matching TD for TD. Both teams had a receiver with 9 catches. This truly was a great game to watch. The Mercs had the early turnover battle advantage as they picked off Wyeth on the opening drive. As usual Pollice spread the ball around utilizing his All-Star receiving crew. With Goodfriend, Frenette, Lapierre, Paquette and Sharma. Wyeth had the benefit of two Hall Of Famers to throw to in Thompson and Benabdelkader. Karim Binette had a key interception late for DA Finest. Both teams battled and it`s a shame there had to be a winner, but in the end DA Finest scored with three plays remaining and converted a 2 point convert try to take a 7 point lead and salt away what was an epic battle. Great game guys.

1. The Triple Sixers hand the Kingz their first loss of the season to the tune of 34-25. Karim Chaoual had a very effective performance as he completed 13 of 17 passes for 197 yards. He also tossed 4 TD`s. The same as his counterpart François Lebeau who needed 21 completions on 38 attempts to equal Chaoual`s output. Converts were a difference in this game as the Kingz only managed one. The biggest difference maker was the only interception of the game by Corey Greenaway who picked Lebeau and rocketed to the end zone. That kid is fast! The Kingz had a great opening game but have since seemed to drag their feet a little. A tie and a loss. This team needs to regroup. They are spreading the ball well with big games from Alex Lever and Steve Nowakowski. Now they just have to figure out where their issues lie. As for the Triple Sixers, they just need to keep on rolling.

The ‘Showstoppa’ this week has to be Corey Greenaway who had the pivotal pick six for his team as well as a pass defended. I`m sure we`ll see his name here again if he can keep coming up with big plays to help his team.

This week’s ‘Golden Boy’ is Ryan Brewster who had 7 receptions for 138 yards. That is 7 of his QB`s 8 completions. And 2 touchdowns to cap it off. Great game Brewster.

Moving forward we have another week of great action coming towards us as Grand Prix week is kicking off so let’s see who going to get a checkered flag this week in division A.

The One Night Stands kick this week off in Brossard against a very pissed off Mercenaries team coming off their loss to DA Finest. Carmine Pollice will be on a mission in this tune up to the Hitmen’s outdoor tourney this upcoming weekend. Some of the O.N.S. will be playing in said tournament as well. But I personally believe they are outmatched again this week. This is a very strong Mercs team and they will be trying to make amends for their 1-2 record. So I do not believe, even if Craig O’Brien takes the reins, that O.N.S. will get their first win this week. I take the Mercenaries.

Later that same night we have the Rainmakers taking on the Kingz. The Kingz have been stumbling these last two outings as they tied O.N.S. and lost to the Triple Sixers. If there is any game they could really get their swagger back, it would be this one against the powerhouse Rainmakers who just got even stronger with Tim Kraemer making his return to the line-up. I truly believe this will be a good game and I feel the Kingz will put up a valiant effort but I just don’t think it will be enough to stop this Rainmakers team. Ryan Kastner is playing at his peak and it will be quite difficult to take him down. I pick the Rainmakers to win and I wish both teams the best of luck in what should be a one-score game.

And finally the week will wrap up with DA Finest taking on the Triple Sixers. Chaoual seems to have gotten his legs back underneath him and is ready to make a run. DA Finest are coming of a very emotional win and need to keep up their intensity and momentum. Just have to watch out for the Marcotte & Jerome show as it hits Lachine this Sunday. As I am playing in this game I will not pick, but I will say that it will be a very hard fought game. DA Finest need to make Chaoual find other receivers besides his standard go to boys. And the Triple Sixers need to find a way to slow down the offense of DA Finest and find solutions to Akked Moore, Kishon Thompson, of course Kevin Wyeth and the rest of the crew.

So ends week three,

In comes week four,

So many great games,

Keep us coming back for more.

Touch, G.P. and FlagPlus,

Make for a weekend to make you cringe,

Guess all that’s left to say is,

Gentlemen, starts your engines!

That’s it for us here at the compound. Tune in next week when we’ll hopefully talk about all the great action and who has the worst sunburn! Until then, as always, I can be reached at [email protected] with your Grand Prix predictions and homemade sunscreen recipes but until then another week has been defused.
