Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 11

Well week 1 of the playoffs is in the books and I hate to say I told you so, so I won’t. Let’s take a peek and see what went down.

Countdown to detonation.

  1. The Triple Sixers take down O.N.S. 40-35. It’s very disheartening when you drive and score a touchdown just to have the opposing team turn around and throw one pass for a 40 yard touchdown. That happened on two occasions, at least. Maybe not one pass but very few as Pat Jerome and Corey Greenaway who had a ridiculous catch as he started looking over his right shoulder then, with the ball in the air, turn his head over to the left and catch the ball on his hip while completely covered. It was spectacular and one surely of the reasons they won. Although many of the O.N.S. players were in a tournament all weekend, they did not look fatigued at all. Maybe sluggish to start but soon after they were all over the place. Craig O’Brien had 5 TD’s, the same as Karim Chaoual, but the one turnover in the game turned out to be the pivotal moment. Bruno Collette picked O’Brien off and took it to the house for 6 and advancing the Triple Sixers into the next round.

My SHOWSTOPPA this week is the aforementioned Bruno Collette whose interception was the game changer. A great play and made a huge difference.

The Golden Boy is Corey Greenaway for that catch alone. Forget the fact he had 5 catches for 73 yards and 2 TD’s. That catch alone was worthy of the Golden Boy of the week.

I had an interesting debate with two FlagPlus members this past week. One being Mitch Chiba and we were discussing game strategy. Basically Mr. Chiba asked why would anyone not take the ball at the start of the game to: 1) Get the early lead and 2) Maximize your potential for the most offensive possessions possible. You have the chance to score early and often to take the lead to the half. You don’t have to worry about wind. You don’t have to worry about sides. So why not always take the ball?

Enter the Silver Fox Rick Nicheri. I asked him his thoughts on this theory. And Rick, of course, had his own theory which he called the ‘Madden theory’ from playing the video game. He prefers to defer at the start of the game so if the opportunity to have the ball just before the half and score presents itself, you can bury a team if you start the second half with the ball. Or if you go down by two scores and then score before the half, you have the opportunity to get right back in the game if you score at the start of the second half which actually happened in the Trojans- Prestige game this past week.

So there is the debate. What do you choose to do? I would love to hear theories on this. You can email me at the link below.

Now to the picks! Or lack thereof since I am taking part in the only game this weekend.

DA Finest take on the Triple Sixers in the rubber match from the past season. The two teams split the season series and each look to move on in the playoffs. The Sixers are looking really good with the deep ball seemingly unstoppable as of late. Also the underneath game with JF Marcotte is very dangerous as well. DA Finest are coming off a bye week but almost all the players were in this past weekend’s tournament so I do not believe there will be any rust. This will be a great game regardless. Both teams can score quickly and often if they are on their game. So come by Sunday at 10 and see all the action!

They stage is set,

We have the final four,

Another round is next,

Can wait to see final score.

1st versus 4th,

Is what is next.

One team will win,

The other left vexed.

So you can email me with your feedback on my debate at [email protected] or with interesting anecdotes about hunting. Until then, another week has been defused.
