Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 1

BombSquad’s Breakdown Spring Division A edition.

Well another Spring session of FlagPlus is upon us and what an opening weekend. Oh how the mighty have fallen. The reigning Champs lose their opening game as do the spring edition of the Finest. The Rainmakers look great and the Triple Sixers have a new look going for them. Let’s take a peek at what transpired shall we?

Countdown to Detonation:

3. A Patrick Chenard-led Triple Sixers squad pummels the One Night Stands 39-7. Yes. Express meets Triple Sixers and so they field a team. The interesting part of this game is the Sixers only needed 11-13 passing for 127 yards to score 5 TD’s! Craig O’Brien was 12-28 for only 65 yards and one INT in this game. Unfortunately that interception was returned to the house by Corey Greenaway. Incumbent Sixers’ QB Karim CHaoual will be back at the helm this week. As for O.N.S., they started the winter session out really slow and finished strong so I do not think they are stressed yet.

2. In easily the game of the week, the Rainmakers take down the defending champion Mercenaries 44-43 in an incredible battle. In the new look Rainmakers we see the likes of Shane Williams, Christian Mcguire and Addley Dufour. This combined with an already strong squad makes this team look like a top seed early in the season. Although they had a very tough test in the spring version of the Mercenaries led by Hall Of Famer Carmine Pollice. This game went back and forth and the Rainmakers were stopped on the last play of the game. But an interference call on rusher Brandon Pierre breathed second life back into the Rainmakers as they took the ball on the 1 yard line. The Rainmakers then scored on the last play of the game to be down by one 1 point. This gave the Rainmakers a chance to run a 2 point convert for the win. Ryan Kastner throws to halfback Derek Kastner who then throws the ball back to Ryan who makes an incredible catch and scores the 2 point try for the win. In a game that had each team mirror each other in stats this game could have gone either way. Could we have seen a glimpse of the finals?

1. The consistent Kingz take down a new look DA Finest. Francois Lebeau returns behind centre in this spring edition of the Kingz and has a strong outing against one of the early favorites. Lebeau spread the ball around very well and seemed to have great field vision against the Kishon Thompson-led Finest defence, although this defence is missing key players from the winter edition, such as Garrett and Nathan Taylor, and Marc Champagnie. Also, on the shelf this week was the Finest’s newest addition Rochdi Benabdelkader. Kevin Wyeth had his usual strong outing, but a great goal line stand by the Kingz’ D sealed the deal and ended the game. In a shocking development, Moe Khan caught the season opening TD for DA Finest! Guess DA Finest had to drag the bottom of the barrel for offensive threats. But seriously, the Kingz defence was as consistent as ever as this team has maintained the same nucleus for many years and it shows. As for DA Finest, I would say this is a getting-to-know-you beginning and once the squad is complete we can really break them down.

Boom. As the bomb goes off signalling the start of an exciting FlagPlus spring session.

The Golden Boy this week has to be Ryan Kastner who tossed 7 TDs and helped his own cause by catching the game winning 2-point convert. Damn! What a start.

For this week’s Showstoppa I have to go with the Triple Sixers’ defensive unit, who held the O.N.S. team to 65 yards and 7 points. Damn! What a start.

Well I know I’m excited about the outlook for DA this season. Let’s take a gander and next week’s matchups!

In our new look Thursday night matchups at the wonderful complex in Brossard we have O.N.S. taking on the Kingz. The One Nighter’s were rode hard in the first week and are still feeling the effects I’m sure. Well things don’t get easier this week as they take on the 1-0 Kingz. There are no traces of rust on Francois Lebeau’s arm, which should make for a long night on the south shore. Take the Kingz.

Then comes Sunday, where we see the Rainmakers taking on DA Finest. I do not take sides in games which I participate in so I will not pick. I will say the new look Rainmakers look like a force to be reckoned with and DA Finest will definitely have their hands full. This should be a great game so grab some popcorn and come by Catalogna.

Finally the Triple Sixers take on the Mercenaries. This looks like a great matchup. The Sixers came out very strong in week one with Patrick Chenard filling in at QB, but this week they are taking on the defending champs. And the champs are seriously upset with the result from week one. I think this battle will be close but the edge has to go to Mercenaries in my eyes.

And so we enter the spring,

With upsets and the new looks it brings.

A cast of characters changing around the board,

Provide dramatic story lines which strike a chord.

So come on out and watch the excitement it brings,

With the teams in D A you won’t want to miss a thing.

As per usual, I can be emailed at [email protected] with your quips and squabbles, but keep it clean people! Until then, another week has been defused.
