Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A & B) – Week 1

Bombsquad’s Breakdown Spring Div A & B

Welcome back y’all for another fantastic season of FPF magic.  Swing your partner round and round, score a TD make your opponent frown. Week 1 is in the books and we had some great action so let’s take a look at what happened!!

Countdown to detonation.

5. The little r thingy apparently got really drunk and changed his name to the Alkaholiks. The spelling displays the level of inebriation. They defeated the Rainmakers 41-31. The Alkaholiks jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead as QB Paul Lapierre showed that not only can he throw the ball, but he has the power to cloud men’s minds and make them miss flags as he ran for 2 scores. He also threw 4 TD’s. Ryan Kastner pulled his game together in the second half and somehow lost having only 2 incompletions. C.A. Sinotte and Teddy Frenette were huge for the Rainmakers, scoring 4 TD’s combined and 176 yards. But the Void powered Alks with the addition of the Pilon twins were just too much on this day. This team is fully stacked and looking dangerous.

4. DA Finest defeated the Mercenaries 38-18. The Mercs did not play a bad game. Carmine Pollice had 10 grabs for 84 yards and a TD. The team is littered with talent and should be a force in B. But DA Finest were just too much for them on this day. Kishon Thompson had a great offensive day with 82 yards and 2 TD’s as did the hairy one, Rochdi Benabdelkader, who had 2; not to mention that this pair also had an interception each on defense. Defensive guru Karim Binette even chipped in with a TD. The Mercs had a rough first matchup but look for this team to make noise. DA Finest were business as usual on this day.

3. The namesake of our infamous balding interim Commish, Daron World Wide, fell to the AAA – which is so much easier to write than Gladiateurs – 46-49 in typical shootout fashion. The addition of Anthony Comeau to DWW was huge for Alex Lever as he had 9 catches for 95 yards and a TD. Gordon Hogan and Eric Bishara had 2 scores a piece as well. Lever had a decent game with a huge 327 yards, 7 TD’s but also a costly interception. On the other side, Francois Lebeau was as efficient as ever. 311 yards passing with 7 TD’s, 3 of which went to brother Marc-Andre Lebeau who had 92 yards. Francois even helped his own cause by getting the only interception in the game. These 2 teams looked great. This division is going to be extremely competitive.

2. The Maniax destroy the Jonesers 42-14. Rapha Beladjat torched the Jonesers for 6 TD passes and even 1 on the ground. J.R. Verger was a monster with 4 TD’s on 81 yards receiving, with Godfrey Abu and Cedric St-Onge rounding out the scoring with a TD each. On the other side, the Jonesers had a very rough day. QB Ryne Bondy had 2 TD passes and 1 interception. There is not much to say about this team at this point, as they still need to mesh and get the Div B experience under their belt. It will be interesting to see their progression.

1. The Triple Sixers return after a short layoff and fall to the Roosters & Donkeys 18-28. Daniele Gentile leads this team which is basically the D-Boys, with a few additions from D4’s Smokin Aces. Gentile had a decent day with 4 TD passes and ironically, the top receiver for the R&D squad was D-boys’ winter QB Marco Masciotra who had 8 grabs for 101 yards and 2 TD’s. Apparently the team decided that Matt Kirouac can still catch a ball – as long as it is not thrown by Kevin Wyeth – as he had 43 yards and a TD. On the flipside, Karim Chaoual struggled to get the ball moving with only 3 TD’s and 147 yards passing. The team still has some of the regular faces like J.F. Marcotte, Joe Duclair and Mathieu Thuot, to name a few. Lucky Alex Lessard stepped up with 2 TD’s. This team is going to have to really pull it together to make a run but they have the experience and talent to do it. As for R&D, strong team, dumb name.

BOOM! Here comes the BOOM, ready or…..no? Okay.

Some individual weekly awards are due, I believe. So let’s do it.

D A

My Golden Boy this week is Paul Lapierre who showed all of FPF that he is the actual Shadow and can turn his flag into a hologram. Watch out for that. So he ran for 2 TD’s and threw for 4 and got the r thingy hammered. Just weird.

My SHOWSTOPPA is David Cesari of the Alkaholiks who managed 5 sacks. Great job even if it was against Ryan Kastner!

D B

My Golden Boy is Francois Lebeau who had 7 TD passes and 311 yards passing. Monster game and worthy of the award.

My SHOWSTOPPA is Simon Rheaume who had 10 tackles in his game which is a hell of a lot. Great job.

While Divison A & B may only be compiled of 10 teams total, it is something you should all be proud of. Teams are afraid to play you and feel they can never beat you. So they remain in the lower divisions trying for Championships instead of trying to beat the best.

My whole life I have always wanted to face the best possible competition at any given time. What I love about this league and this division is I know I am not alone. This division is compiled of players who know the only real way to play football is to face the best week in and week out. That is what you are. The best of the best.

Be proud you play in top tier and that no one can step up to you and ask why you aren’t in the higher division, like so many players I see out there with the talent to compete at the top.

So this is for you!! Participants of Div A & B! The cream of the crop! I am proud to play alongside and against you. Thank you for making FPF the league that it is.

Now for a preview of the games this week.

The Rainmakers face off against the Triple Sixers and I feel bad for the Sixers because the Rainmakers are definitely not pleased with losing last week. Kastner and company will not offer parley or reprieve. It will be a long day for the Sixers as the Rainmakers will make it rain.

The Alkaholiks face the Maniax in another A versus B crossover game. Much like the previous entry, this will not be a fair match. The Alks are insanely stacked this season and while the Maniax have a great team, they just moved up and the Alks are a little too strong for them. Alas, the Alks win.

The Roosters & Donkeys face AAA. This game is very even matched. Gentile versus Lebeau. While both teams can move the ball and R & D has the better defense, I just think the experience of the Glads….I mean AAA will shine through and bring them out on top.

The Mercenaries take on the Jonesers. The Mercs had a very rough first matchup while the Jonesers seem to be struggling early at the QB position. The Mercs are very talented and the Jonesers are still adapting. Advantage and win to the Mercs.

DA Finest takes on Daron World Wide in the final crossover game. As I am playing in this game, I do not make predictions. I know that DWW seems to view this matchup as a daunting task. But I think it is a great opportunity for the team to see how well they stack up against a higher division team.

Spring is here

And the fields are full,

Teams face off,

No more talk, no more bull.

At the top of the ladder,

IS where your team shall play,

Leaving lower Divs nothing to say,

Welcome back to one and all,

So onwards and upwards we go,

Towards another Champions we head,

Nothing left to say but On with the SHOW!!!

That is it for me here. Great to see many faces back. You can reach me at [email protected] or tweet me @DonaldWShepherd with your predictions and thoughts on the status of the interim commissioner. Until then, another week has been defused.
