Bombsquad’s Breakdown (D2) – Week 6

Bombsquad’s Breakdown

Can you feel it? To steal a line from Bon Jovi who was performing at the Bell Centre last Saturday while all of Division 2 was playing “We’re half way there”, and alas some teams are virtually “Living on a Prayer”. Time to buckle down and discuss a little playoff scenarios as well. Let’s get to it shall we?

Countdown to detonation.

7. The Triple Sixers set the Gold Standard by beating them 25-22. Mike McNair threw for the Standard and unfortunately, had more picks than touchdown throws. 2 td’s and 3 int’s while throwing for a mere 146 yards. The Pat Jerome show was in full attire last weekend as he caught 5 balls for 108 yards and 2 td’s. Can anyone stop this guy? Chaoual had another great game throwing 4td’s and only 1 pick with 232 yards against a stellar Gold defense. On the other side, Shane Williams was a beast again catching 3 td’s on 5 receptions for 73 yards. The plot thickens…

6. To everyone’s shocking surprise, the Ruff Ryders beat down the Air Squad 40-18! What was shocking you say? Paul Lapierre ran for 6 yards! AMAZING! But seriously, it is a tough game for anyone playing the Ryders, as their defense has been stifling this season. Kudos to the Squad, for putting up a fight and scoring three times against a great team. But this was a mismatch from the moment it was posted on the schedule.

5. Mercenaries flex their regal muscles and outscore the Kingz 52-44 in a hard fought game. The difference in this game was Gino Di Fazio tossing 8 td’s for 304 yards making some pretty incredible throws putting the ball where only his receivers would catch it. Big game from Anthony Thompson who scores 4 td’s and seemed unstoppable. He will be leaving us this year to play for UCLA in the newly minted Pac-12 Conference! Congrats A-Town! Jacques Void caught 3 scores and made some incredible catches down the sideline exhibiting great body control. Not to be silenced, Carmine Pollice threw 7 td’s and really spread the table, but all for not in the end.

4. In a game with about as many style points as Bumfights.com, the Wolfpack win an ugly one over the Wolverines 32-24. Adrien Kellman threw for the Wolverines once again, and in his unorthodox style managed to not get picked while throwing for 4 td’s. But the Pack won out in the end with Pascal Murray tossing 5 td’s. All in all I thought the Pack would win by more, and should have, but this game was just not at all what I thought it would be. Hopefully both teams can take something away from this game. I know all I took away was wishing I could have an hour of my life back.

3. Craig O’Brien is back and torches the Wildcats as O.N.S. takes the Cats down 46-12. Remember that whole consistency thing I talked about? Well, when they have their full squad, the One Nighter’s are a whole different animal. The defense picked Pierre-Marc Chadi 4 times, 3 of which were by Jeff Millar. O’Brien led his team with 7 td tosses and 253 yards with only 6 incompletions as he went 21-27. Now if these boys can continue down this road it will be an interesting season. Once again the enigma that is the Wildcats confused us once again. Who are these guys?

2. G-Men get to scrimmage as the X’s and O’s are not only late for the second week in a row, they don’t even show up! Guys, have some class and respect for the league. We all pay to play and have no interest in winning 30-0 via forfeit. If you are frustrated, suck it up and finish the season. Bring your cousins to play. I don’t care if you search for bums on the street, with signs that say “Will Play For Food!”. I only ask that if you forfeit another game and qualify for the playoffs, that YOU AS A TEAM forfeit your playoff spot to the team below you.

1. The All Blacks feed me a huge slice of humble pie and show the league how you win games. The trick apparently is to make sure the quarterback of the opposing team does not throw any touchdowns at all. Which they did. Yannick Vanasse ran for 2 but you will not win games in this league only running. Chris Bridgeman had to only throw for 81 yards with 3 td’s, but showed he can run, himself, with 5 rushes for 66 yards and a rushing td to beat the MOMO Nation. Great job guys. Now the real challenges come.

Boom…..shake, shake, shake the room, tick, tick, tick, tick BOOM!!

With the playoffs looming over the horizon, I figured I should give a brief overview of the playoff picture as it stands right now. So here we go.

Conference A has been led all season by the All Blacks, with Gold Standard nipping at their heels. As of right now these 2 teams would have the bye. The next 4 would be Wolfpack, One Night Stands, Kingz and X’s and O’s about which I believe I have already made my feelings quite clear. Which would leave the Air Squad on the outside looking in. Tough road ahead for the Squad, and I can say I do not see them making the playoffs.

Conference B would have the Ruff Ryders and G-Men getting byes followed by the Mercenaries, Triple Sixers, MOMO Nation and the Wildcats leaving the Wolverines in the dark. As with the Air Squad, I just don’t see the Wolverines pulling it together in time to qualify, but only time will tell. As for the top of the division, at this point even if the Mercenaries upset the Ruff Ryders, the seeding would remain the same due to point differential. Interesting battle for the byes though.

SHOWSTOPPA!!! My Showstoppa this week is actually a tie between Jeff Millar of O.N.S. who picked P-M Chadi three times in the route of the Wildcats, and Chris Smith for the All Blacks who really helped shut down Yannick Vanasse of MOMO by sacking him 4 times. Great job boys!

The Golden Boy this week has to be Gino Di Fazio of the Mercenaries. He went 19-29 for 308 yards with 8 td’s and no interceptions against a veteran Kingz squad. Great job and some pinpoint throws for this week’s Golden Boy.

Picks anyone? Okay, let’s do it.

I’m looking at the Wildcats to win versus X’s and O’s, even if it’s not a forfeit. How about that? The boys of letters will be out of touch after so much time off and the Wildcats want to rebound from the big loss.

The Air Squad and Wolverines do battle in the game of 0’fer’s. Neither team has a win and both really need one. This really is a flip-a-coin game, but I’m going to say the Wolverines will win this close matchup, due only to experience. And I’m not even sure of that. Hope they have their QB back.

All Blacks and Triple Sixers. The Triple Sixers are on fire and in this battle I just don’t think anyone can stop Pat Jerome. If he is there, I think the TS win a close match. No Pat Jerome, then the All Blacks come out on top. Great game to watch if you can make it out.

Gold Standard and the Ruff Ryders lock horns this week. This will be a great game with some stingy defense but I think The Ryders will edge out the boys in Gold in a really close game.

O.N.S. and Mercenaries take to the field in Lachine this Sunday. Will Craig O’Brien bring the Mercs down to earth after their emotional victory over the Kingz, or will the Mercs offence fire away as usual against the Brewster and Thompson led defense. Go check it out for yourself.

The Wolfpack will be playing a very disgruntled G-Men team, who did not get to play last week. Although the ‘Pack are surging, I believe the G-Men defense will slow these boys down and come out on top. They will be motivated from the week off and want to play so bring you’re ‘A’ game Pack, you’ll need it.

And finally I believe Carmine Pollice is quite frustrated with the results from last weekend and will expose any and all weaknesses that the MOMO Nation have. The Kingz are not a reflection of their record and after playing them I really think MOMO will have a problem shutting them down.

All’s said and done,

That’s it for week six.

A playoff outlook,

And even some picks.

The playoffs loom,

Who’s going to win.

If you want a shot,

Then your squad better get in!

So that’s it for this week guys and gals (if any are reading). Always a pleasure and feel free to email me with Eddie Murphy, Delirious jokes or stamp collector websites at [email protected]. Until then, another week has….phew….been defused.
