Big Week, Big Matchups

Welcome to Week 2 of Division 6. The action and quality of football is picking up as expected. Last week we saw 6 games that got out of hand early. This time around we saw 5, and the number came close to being even less, as some teams made some spirited second half comebacks. That’s a good thing, because as we creep closer and closer to the mid-way point of the season, (it’s coming a lot faster than you think) each game will take on added significance.

With the rising of competition in games comes the elevated performances. Players are stepping up and making big plays on both sides of the ball. Some guys are doing it for their teams, some are doing it for themselves, and some as I’ve been told, are doing it to get on the Top 3. Whatever your reason is, keep doing your thing guys, because without a shadow of a doubt, it’s making this Division even better.

Continuing with the big game trend, we have a couple of huge matchups on tap that will be sure to impact the playoff races down the road. PB n’ Jelly vs the N.W.O (a big thanks to their QB Michael “wannabe Bad News” Sanchez for the e-mail and correction to some info!), Spartans vs Team Laval, Jean Guy vs Victorious Secret, and Tip Top Shape vs the Ravens to name a few. This week has the potential to be even better than the last. I can’t wait to see what happens.

Top 3

Vincent Alessandrini (Nighthawks) – I might have to him the FPF One Man Gang after his performance Monday night against Victorious Secret. He had a week-high 6 grabs 130 yards and 4 TDs on offense. On the defensive end he had an equally impressive (and also a week-leading) 3 INTs.

David De Andrade (Tip Top Shape)– After tearing apart the Diablos, by throwing for an amazing 6 TDs, and picking off their QB Francois Martin 3 times (more on him later), and proving me wrong in my picks in the process, the Tip Top Shape pivot deservedly makes the leap from the Honourable Mention list to the Top Three. Well done sir!

Chris Brockwell (Smokin’ Axolotls) – This is the first time in a long time that I have put a rusher here, and it hasn’t been the name of the reigning sack-king Simon Laporte. This almost feels like blasphemy, but Brockwell definitely deserves the show of respect after his 5-sack performance against Sabrfc this past week. Oh yeah, he also added a receiving TD to go along with 2 catches for 39 yards.

Honorable Mention:

Max Marini (Sabrfc)– Holding the keys in his hand of arguably the best offense in all of D6, Max Marini did not disappoint as he led his team to a 39-29 victory over the Smokin’ Axolotls. The Sabrfc Quarterback not only threw for 2 TDs, but he also ran for 3 more on 6 carries for 86 yards.

Marc-Antoine Vallée (Ravens) – Another 3 TD performance for second year Receiver. If he keeps this up, he’ll not only make the Top Three list, but he’ll get some serious consideration for one of the WR Mid-Season All-Star spots.

Step It Up

Fourth and Twenty Offense – The safety you guys helped force in the first half definitely propped up your point total (8). As is the case with the NFL, CFL, NCAA, CIS, and here in FPF, this is an offensive league. Yes the defenses have talent, but it shouldn’t take 47 minutes to score 1 TD. You guys can’t even use the 1st year team excuse. Step it up boys.

Francois Martin (Diablos) – Sorry my man, but I explained how this worked last week. Yes, there were some drops, but still, more than half your completions were to the other team. You can do better, and have done better in the past!

The Smokin’ Axolotls – I honestly don’t like picking on teams or players, since that isn’t the point of this section, but when your rusher gets you 5 sacks, you as team should be winning the game. Come on guys.

Matchups

Marc-Antoine Vallée versus the Tip Top Shape Defense – Vallée has been the best WR in Div. 6 so far. He leads everyone in TDs with 6, and is second in yards with 188. This week however, he faces his first real tough test of the season, as he and the Ravens face off against the best defense in the league in Tip Top Shape. Whichever side wins that battle, will most likely win the war.

Giovanni Bavota (Victorious Secret) versus Emile Lamy (Jean Guy) – Despite his team being 1-1, Lamy the Jean Guy pivot has been anything sharp so far this season. Maybe its rust, but his numbers just haven’t been impressive, as he has only completed 8 and 6 passes his first two games respectively. Bavota is tied for the Div. 6 lead in picks with 3 so far this season. Lamy will need to step up his game if he wants to get his team the W this Monday night in St. Leonard.

Simon Laporte versus Victorious Secret – Two matchups from the same game, yes I know it’s kind of cheating, but who doesn’t want to see Simon Laporte rush the passer. After only generating 1 sack last week, (and getting knocked out the Top 3 for another rusher no less!) how will he respond this week in what should a good game against an improving Victorious Secret squad?
