Bessette’s Shlong and Taking Down Bullies

Week 9

Welcome back to another instalment of Division C 2023. Season’s end is approaching as we’ve already reached week 9. Some teams are ready to conclude their season and get playoff ready while others still have about a quarter of their schedule remaining. Iggy and Peeze mentioned on Calling the Audible wether 4 wins in Div C will grant you a playoff spot and to answer Iggy’s question I do NOT think that 4 wins secures a playoff spot for those teams seeded from 10-23. It should be interesting how this season standings finalize but to all those teams fighting for a playoff spot remember that your seeding will depend on a few tie braking rules. You can view them on our official landings page but since you’re already here, here is how teams with the same number of points in the standings get placed over one another.

  1. Number of wins
  2. Head-to-head, if applicable.
  3. Points Allowed
  4. Point Differential (+/-)

So now that that’s covered you know exactly how and what you need to get into the playoffs. Week 9 has a lot of action to be unpacked so without further delay lets dive into Div C.

Headlines

NeverOvertime take down the bullies!

After a one point loss to 4th & Shlong last week, NeverOvertime were determined to get back into the win column. A tough task lied ahead of them as they faced off against the 7-1 Backyard Bullies. A big underdog as NeverOvertime came into this game at 3-5 and a low seed trying to battle their way to 5 wins. But that didn’t matter to them as they came into the game with extreme confidence as their first play of the game was a 40-yard Touchdown BOMB to Rhami Aboud. The bullies did come to play as they did lead most of the game until Olivier Sabourin intercepted Sean Avraam for only his 2nd time of the season. This INT was exactly what they needed as they took the lead and held on to a 37-34 lead.

Has Carmine Pollice officially taken over for The Commission?

I had mentioned it before that Carmine Pollice had taken snaps under center for the Commission and played a phenomenal game. It turned out that he was just a sub back in week 3. But after The Commissions 40-14 loss vs. Repeat Offenders in week 7, we saw Carmine back under center in week 8. Perfect timing as they were scheduled to play one of the toughest teams in the division Bible Study. Carmine not only has another fantastic game throwing for 180 yards and 6 TD’s but he got his team the win 38-36. It is my assumption that with 3 games played for them already and 2 weeks remaining Carmine will be the teams QB moving forward.

Spotlight matchup of the week

Record Prediction: 3-2

Bessette Et Ses Potes (4-1) vs. 4th & Shlong (4-3)

In this edition of Matchup of the week, Bessette et Ses Potes take on 4th & Shlong. These two teams that have shown throughout the season that they can put on exciting games and can compete against anyone in the division and that is why I chose this clash on the field as they spotlight game of the week. Despite the apparent difference in their records and individual stats, these teams are closer in talent than meets the eye, setting the stage for an thrilling and competitive game. Bessette et Ses Potes have not surprised me with their impressive 4-1 record in their first five games as I knew this team was built to win in this division. Oddly enough we are in week 9 and this team has already had 2 games be rescheduled. Either way I think this team would still have only 1 loss leading up to this weeks game. The key to their success has been the exceptional performance of their quarterback, Frédéric Paquette-Perrault. With 25 touchdowns and only 1 interception, Paquette-Perrault has demonstrated his accuracy and decision-making, making him one of the top QB’s in the division. He was also my early pick for QB of the year and it seems like he is falling behind in the race but after he catches up on all his rescheduled games I think he can put himself in the conversation once again. The team’s overall ball security has also contributed to their wins, showing that they have been able to maintain possession and avoid costly turnovers. The only thing I can find wrong with this team is that they might be too passive at times and lack big play ability that can discourage teams while trailing.

On the other side of the field, 4th & Shlong has had a slightly rockier path, with a 4-3 record. However, their quarterback, Michael Caparelli, has been an explosive playmaker, throwing for 28 touchdowns. Nevertheless, Caparelli has also shown a weakness with 9 interceptions. The key for 4th & Shlong will be to strike a balance between their big-play ability and minimizing turnovers, as the latter can significantly impact the outcome of any game. Caparelli’s big arm allows them to be in scoring territory even on their side of the field. This also means they are more likely to throw INT’s and potentially get sacked. When comparing these two teams, Bessette et Ses Potes appear to have a more consistent and disciplined approach, while 4th & Shlong possesses the potential to turn the tide of the game with their explosive plays. The matchup, therefore, promises to be an intriguing battle of contrasting strengths.

Ultimately, this matchup will come down to which team can exploit the opposing teams defence the most. When a battle between the division’s top QB’s arises you have to sit and watch the beauty of these offences go to work. Bessette et Ses Potes will aim to control the clock and limit turnovers, while 4th & Shlong will look to unleash their playmakers and score at will. A hard game to predict as Bessette Et Ses Potes have not played the usual amount of games at this point of the season but I still think that they will be the better team this time around. Give me Bessette et Ses Potes 36-33.

Top performances of week 8

QB: Ryan Karouf- NeverOvertime

A near perfect game for Ryan Karouf under center. He completed 21 of 23 passes for 232 yards and 6 TD’s. His offence also did not turn the ball over or punt once in this game. Truly a offensive masterclass as this team drove the field and scored on every possession. 100% on third down conversions and 6 for 6 in Red Zone scoring. On top of that Ryan wasn’t sacked once and added 8 yards of rushing. What makes this performance even more spectacular is that he did all this versus one of the top 2 teams in the division, Backyard Bullies. I had selected NeverOvertime to lose this game so to put on the clinic that they did and the performance Ryan Karouf had last week, I had no choice but to select him as last weeks top performing QB.

WR: Jarryd Taylor-Bible Study

This stellar performance unfortunately didn’t come with a win but Jarryd’s performance last week against The Commission is still one to be recognized. Jarryd caught 9 of 10 passes thrown to him for 94 yards. He was also able to find the endzone 4 times! Jarryd’s blazing speed and crisp route running is arguably the hardest to handle in all of FPF. I have the pleasure of sharing the field with him in Div B and let me tell you Jarryd is a threat to score on every play. Weather he is burning the top off of defences running go or post routes or turning a 3 yard slant or hook into a 30 yard TD run Jarryd’s ability to switch gears make it extremely hard to gage. His QB Rocco Christiano does a great job every week getting him the targets he needs to impact the game. The only thing that held back Jarryd and Bible Study last week was their extra point conversions.

DEF: Jared Arany- Killer Rays

In a week where no one performance really outshined the others I decided to give some recognition to a top rusher in the division after this week. Killer Rays have not had the season they had hoped for after making the jump to div C. Luckily for them their rusher Jared Arany has done his part when pressuring opposing QB’s. Last week against The Infantry Arany was able to secure 2 sacks which brought his season total to 12. 12 is enough to tie the division lead Felix Boutet. What’s really impressive is that Arany has been able to accumulate 12 sacks in only 5 games. With 2 games left on Killer Rays schedule, he has a chance to pass the division leader and finish as the top sack leader and an all-star rusher for Div C.

2-way- Jerome Hovington -Dime and Bougie

Last but definitely not least last weeks biggest performance undoubtedly goes to Jerome Hovington. Jerome was easily the best player on the field in last weeks Spotlight matchup between Dime and Bougie and TrapStars. He was making plays left right and center on both sides of the ball. On offence, the man was putting up Randy Moss type numbers with 6 catches for 94 yards and 5 touchdowns. Almost every time he touched the ball, 6 points were added to Dime and Bougie’s total. They took control early and never looked back as they won the game 56-18, leaving TrapStars no chance of coming back as they when up 42-12 in just the first half. Jerome was even able to pick off Ryan Garber to turn his wild offensive night into a 2-way performance. Jerome earned this title and was a giant playmaker on a team FULL of studs. Well done!!
