Batting .500, Quarter Finals and The Interview

Peeze’s Playbook: Quarter Finals

Musings, Ramblings, Lies and Other Assortments

  • SEVEN HOURS OF UNINTERRUPTED, COMMERCIAL FREE FOOTBALL!
  • The worst has happened for the FPF playoffs.  There was a positive Covid19 test and as such the Dilly!Dilly! V. Blast From the Past Game has been postponed.
  • Incredible Thought: I’m not my brother. I’m not another person. Only I am me.
  • The great Pincellos Massacre huh? No kidding…
  • I went .500 in my predictions last week. That’s not great for predictions but, I would be in the baseball Hall of Fame.  That would make it my second HOF induction.  I would refuse it on the grounds that their refusal to allow Shoeless Joe in is an absolute travesty.
  • Justin Sarlabous pick 6 to seal the game for Ravens was a huge moment for a team that came out a little flat to start the game.
  • As always, people are screaming SNUB rather than enjoying the award winners.  I’m so happy I have NOTHING to do with award winners.
  • This has been spotted by a few folks.  The playoff seedings were a little funky this season.  Given that there was only a single, non-conference game for each team in div.E, this was ignored for tie-breaker purposes.
  • Oreos submitted an illegal roster as they had an ineligible player sub in their playoff game.  So it was not caught by the scorekeeper, this is FPF-culpa.  The scorekeepers will all be on High alert from henceforth so I don’t recommend trying it.  As for Oreos, they’ve been warned.
  • Stan Marino still has not suited up since his injury. Sad face emoji. Bandaid Emoji, Nurse Emoji, Doctor Emoji, Cactus Emoji.

Playoff Preview

This article is a little more stripped down as than usual.  It’s a lot of words and not many pictures.  For fans of pop-up books like myself, it may be a let down.  However, the turn around time and the beginning of my wife’s “Birthday week” had me on a time crunch!

2 Pincellos v. 8 Trailer Park Boys

  • Keys to success for Pincellos
    • The strengths of the TPB defense are their ability to take the deep ball away and they are aggressive up front. So Vince Romano will be best served to find a way to attack the intermediate 10-15 yard area.
    • When they last played, Trailer Park Boys were in shambles.  If Pincellos are expecting the same kind of game, they’ll be sorely disappointed.
    • In their blowout of Rainmakers, Jordan Farray and Jocelyn Calixte combined for 3 (of the teams 5) interceptions and brought two of them back for 6.  Their defense will be the key to tempering the Trailer Park Boys offense.
  • Keys to success for Trailer Park Boys
    • Antoine Meunier had a clean game against Green Means Go! Given the team’s aggressive defense, a consistent, error-free performance.  They want Pincellos to feel as though they need to make plays and then Trailer Park Boys can take advantage of their mistakes.
    • Pincellos are going to notice Alexandre Meunier and Mathieu Gascon getting the bulk of the targets.  However,Phil Ramsey did punch in two touchdowns. Using the plethora of weapons on this team will be hugely important to their success.

Prediction: Trailer Park Boys 27-Pincellos 25 (fortunately)

1 Ravens v. 6 Oreos

  • Keys to success for Ravens:
    • The first time around, the Ravens beat Oreos handedly. This was the first crack in the armor we saw for the Oreos. It was described to me as “Ravens are men, Oreos are boys”.  While that may appear to be dismissive of the young team, I think it just refers to the size of the Ravens as compared to the sole surviving team from FPF Jr.’s oldest division. Kamba Katchelewa, Mathieu Houle and Justin Sarlabous were simply bullies in the last matchup. This was THE key to success last time.  It’s the same this time around.
    • In their last game they weathered the storm offered by Julien Wilson and Vincent Benjamin in a “bend-but-don’t break approach”.  They will need to do the same with Ukiah Best and Jaeden Edghill (if present).  They can allow those dudes to get there’s somewhat, but they cannot allow them to completely go off.
    • Joel Houle needs to keep his composure in case things don’t immediately go his way. I can see a scenario when pressured he throws a fastball in a moment where he should opt for a touch pass and it gets tipped up for a turnover.  If this happens, be a goldfish!
  • Keys to success for Oreos:
    • I’ve got to give Jstin Charles his flowers.  There’s no way he’s thrilled with how this season went.  He had several games where he didn’t complete the game at QB.  However, when the game counted most, Justin Charles went 13-16, 170 yards and 5 touchdowns!
    • I know how these guys play. They don’t get intimidated.  This is a MAJOR key for them.  If they come into this game thinking that they’re the favorite and that they’re the team to beat, that brash attitude can help push them past the Ravens.
    • Defensively Oreos NEED to force errors.  They can’t be playing for turnovers on downs. Defensively they need to communicate, read and undercut routes.

Prediction: Ravens 44-Oreos 38

3 V-Town v. 5 Ball’s Deep

  • Keys to success for V-Town
    • Jason Cassandra scored two touchdowns and intercepted a pass  The best players make the most of their opportunities in the playoffs.  This was no exception.  We saw Matthew Cabral handle the volume and Cassandra make the more explosive plays.  I like the “lull them in and counter-punch” approach for these dudes.
    • Jonathan Velasco was actually more impressive on defense than offense in the first round.  He intercepted two passes.  Given that Hiotis is expected to make at least one mistake in this game, V-Town would be best served to capitalize and ideall force a second interception.
    • Ball’s Deep will look to get an edge by getting under V-Town’s skin.  They need to stay focus and not buy into the noise.
  • Keys to success for Ball’s Deep
    • Beating Suicide Squad was the surprise of the week for me.  Michael Hiotis scored twice on the ground.  He’s an athlete and if that’s what it takes for him to make plays, it’s what he’s got to do.  His legs are an extra dimension that V-Town’s rotating cast of rushers may struggle with.
    • Last time these two boisterous teams face off,  single touchdown was the difference. The game was a little slow.  I think this helps whoever, gets off the ground first.  If Antonio Venturino has a replica of his earlier matchup against V-Town or if Jordan Le can reprise his first round performance, it may well be Ball’s Deep.

Prediction: Ball’s Deep 25- V-Town 19

1 Dilly!Dilly! v. 5 Blast from the Past

  • Keys to success for Dilly!Dilly!
    • Believe it or not high seeds tend to have a pretty rough record in the lower divisions when time elapses between games.  The Covid 19 situation means DD need to sit around and wait for their second round game.  This will inevitably interrupt the mental state of flow from the forerunners.
    • Dilly!Dilly! laid a beatdown on Melons on Thursday. Michael Pietrobon, Alexandre Labrie-Chausse, Riccardo Desrosiers, and whoever else you can think of made an impact on offense.  Well everyone except Iggy Magnets who caught nothing Thursday.
    • Despite Frank Grenier’s statuesque approach to the QB position, Max Ledoux will be key as a rusher.  He needs to keep the funnyman as uncomfortable as Ricky Gervais made the world with the British version of the office.
  • Keys to success for Blast from The Past
    • Frank Grenier needs to use the aggressive flat defense of Dilly!Dilly! against them.  Use floods to create separation and attack the open levels.  Eventually a big play will present itself.  Ideally, this is where Maurice Dykmans can break the game open.
    • I’ve loved seeing Hai Minh Luong on defense.  The dude is a cerebral QB and he brings that same approach to the defense for Blast From the Past.  His input will be invaluable for a squad that will need to make Jeremie Ledoux make uncanny mistakes.

Prediction: Dilly!Dilly! 37- Blast From the Past 20
