Bandits are Quietly 3-0. Can They Keep it up?

Hey folks! Already two and a half weeks into the season and we got some storylines brewing.

Glory Boyz did not take my bold prediction lightly. I predicted Born in the 80’s to beat them fairly easily. That did not happen. Led by Lucas Crivello‘s 2 touchdowns, Glory Boyz squeezed out a 32-31 victory. The thing with this crew is that they truly believe they can beat anyone they play. That is evident as soon as they step on the field.

A week after praising No Ragrets, they go out and lay an egg against Friends with Danny losing 32-6. Was this more of a poor game for No Ragrets or a great performance by Friends with Danny? I’ll go with the latter on this one.

Red Dragons nearly put up a 50 burger on Longhorns! They won a high-scoring affair 49-39. Nathan Desjardins wins this week’s two-way award. He caught 3 TDs and had 3 picks, returning one of them for a touchdown. The Red Dragons played the very next day and only put up 6 points. Credit to Bandits D’Ahuntsic’s defense!

Bandits are off to a nice 3-0 start. They scored 40, 33, and 31 points respectively in their first three games. Their game yesterday against Les Renards Vifs was filled with highlight plays by both teams. Émile Skaf has impressed with 15 TDs on the season and only 1 pick. Bandits have bought into the system and it is paying dividends.

Quick question: Are the Celtics still favoured to beat the Heat? I’m sure ESPN will find a way to keep the Celtics as favourites. As a Heat fan I gotta admit I’m on Cloud 9. I knew the Heat had this in them but did not expect this. This has gotta be one of the more improbable runs in sports history. Heat Culture is real people. Let’s start buying into it.

X-Men have picked up exactly where they left off after winning a Division 6 chip this winter. They are 3-0, have a +/- of plus 61, and have yet to throw an interception. These youngsters have an abundance of riches. They added Emerson Peterkin who is an athletic freak that cuts on a dime. His addition has already payed off. QB Daniel Devine has a QBR of 135.3 in the two games he’s played in. In the one game Devine missed, X-Men put up 34 points. Talk about depth.

Riders of Rohan were in another tight battle last night against Blues. They got a TD with 2 plays left in the game to pick up their first win on the season. Impressive that they threw 3 total interceptions to Blues’s 0 and still found a way to win. Next up for them are The Rude Saks who are also 1-2.

Game Previews

Les Renards Vifs (2-1) VS Dilf Gang (1-0)

I caught the tail end Les Renards Vifs’ loss against Bandits. QB Jacob Salvail had his way with the deep ball in the second half. His receivers were great at tracking the ball as he put it on the money. Salvail will be going up against QB Vaughn Vanslet. Vanslet will have the luxury of throwing to up-and-coming rising star Sam Anastasopoulos, and 6 time All Star Marco Bertoldi. Matt Lafortune is also another playmaker to keep an eye on in this offense. The only knock on him is that he’s a Patriots fan…

One of the reasons I chose to preview this game is I love myself some deep bombs. Both teams like to test the defense and keep them honest. These QBs trust their receivers to make plays no matter who is playing defense. A blessing and a curse, but I love aggressive football. Philippe St-Laurent is a great vertical threat for Salvail. It’ll be interesting to see how Dilf Gang decide to defend him.

I’m predicting this game to have a mix of everything. Long touchdown passes, interceptions, and a whole lot of yelling. The key may just be how both QBs/teams manage the game. I think the veteran leadership of Bertoldi will be the difference in inching out a win for Dilf Gang.

Final Score: Dilf Gang win 26-24
