And then there were two: Division 6 Finals Preview

We are finally here. The last two teams battling for the right to called Division 6 champion. The Meat Fiddlers versus Demons.

(2) Demons versus (6) Meat Fiddlers

Previous Meeting: N/A

These two teams knocked off the consensus favorites in the Pigeons and SKOL, and they used dominant defenses to do it. The Meat Fiddlers took advantage of the absence of Quarterback Anthony Del Peschio, to beat the Pigeons (13-12).

The Meat Fiddlers defense held the QB combo of Alessandro Chiricosta and Mass Chiricosta to 70 yards, one touchdown, an interception, and only two trips to the redzone.

The Demons didn’t have the luxury of facing a backup Quarterback in their Semi-Final matchup with SKOL, as QB Hugo Stensland was in the lineup and ready to lift his team, the number one seed in Division 6, all the way to today’s championship game.

Led by a suffocating defense, the Demons shut down the top10 ranked SKOL offense, as they held them to a season-low eight points, as they frustrated their opponents all game long, leading to a despicable act where Marc-André Coté was ejected from the game for striking another player, and then Stensland was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty on the final play of the game where he led with his shoulder and made contact into ta player who was trying to tackle him.

Losing is never fun, especially when you are a championship contender, and in many eyes the favorites to win it all but have some class when you lose.

For the Demons, who were accused of not beating good teams during the regular season, they have proven that respect needs to be put on their name, as they knocked off the best squad in the division.

Four questions must be answered today?

Can the smothering defense that both teams have displayed this post-season hit the field today? So far, the Demons and Meat Fiddlers have shown that championships are won on that side of the ball. One would have to assume that each squad will bring that unit to play today.

Can the Meat Fiddlers beat a team with a legit starting Quarterback? By all accounts, Max Guenette will be in the lineup today. ALLBALL forfeited in their Quarter-Final game, and the Pigeons were without their Starting QB. It isn’t the Meat Fiddlers fault, but the question must be asked.

Can Demons stop the dynamic Leo Diakoumakos? He has been the team’s best player this post-season, as the seventh-year duo-threat weapon has made several huge plays on both sides on the ball throughout the playoffs. Perhaps we will see Jeremy Methot-Pizzi, who has been the Demons’ most valuable player since the regular season ended, and currently has a two-game pick-six streak going will be up to the task.

The most important question is who will win the game?

Two of the best teams in all of Division 6, doing battle for the top prize. The Demons have answered all the critics and then some, while Cheat Squad is riding the wave of the emergence of Rémy Dumas who since taking over as the team’s starter nearly one month ago, has been nothing short of sensational, as he has thrown 22 touchdowns, and has taken the offense to another level.

Both teams are playing great football right now, and you hate knowing that there will have to be a loser in the contest.

I think the length and speed of the Demons’ defense comes up with a key stop in the final moments to seal the win and take home the trophy.

Prediction: Demons (33-30)

That is it for this week, and the Winter Season. Thank-you to everyone who took the time to read my articles, and to the players that reached out to me. I hope you enjoyed them.

It had been a while since I wrote for Division 6. When I was asked to do it, I was hesitant because 30 teams are a lot, but I am happy that I said yes. Thanks for the fun this year, and for all the kind words. Good luck to both teams today, and I hope to see you all in the Spring Season. Enjoy the short break, and before I forget, Let’s go Knicks and Bruins!!!!
