A Ton of Great Games This Week in Div D!

Glad to be back writing another article! For today’s article I am going to be doing something a little different than in my future articles. I’ll select some questions I have at this point in the season. Without further ado, let’s get started.

Which team off to a slow start will pick it up?

DNE scored their first points of the season on Sunday night. It was their 4th game on the year. I wonder if that’s an FPF record. One of their games was a forfeit which automatically gives them a 0 on the scoreboard. Gotta take that into consideration too. I still believe in this team. They played a hard fought game against X-Men, who are undefeated, losing 33-25. In that game Jordan Panetta had 7 catches, 83 yards, and 2 touchdowns. DNE will need to find a guy that can alleviate some of the pressure on him to constantly put up those numbers. Max Burah is more than capable of being that guy. Many of these players just won a championship with Silent Ticklers in Division 3. That experience alone should be enough for them to get back on track.

Who will win WR of the year?

My personal favorite individual award in FPF. Many players have already put up monster numbers in the early part of the season. Justin Lerner and Manu Allard-Roy both have 8 touchdowns in 4 games. Jared Buck has 7 in 3 games played. You of course cannot forget about guys like AJ Zeppetelli, Francois Rochette, and Emerson Peterkin. I’m gonna go with Manu here. Along with his 8 touchdowns he has 24 receptions and 383 yards! I have played with and seen him play over the course of the last few seasons. He went from a receiver with strong hands who moves the chains, to a receiver who does that and is also a constant deep threat. He is averaging exactly 16 yards per reception for Idaho Udapimps. Keep eating young fella, keep eating.

Are Les Petits Carottes legit championship contenders?

Yes they are. They are 2-2 and coming off their best game of the season where they beat Friends with Danny 53-22. Jason Rayes is a great dual-threat QB who can also play solid defense. He has 3 picks and a pick 6. Charles Côté leads the team in both touchdowns and interceptions, with 6 and 4 respectively. I have seen them play in past seasons. One advantage they usually have over other teams is their speed. Speed kills in flag as we all know. They also have height. Les Petits Carottes do a tremendous job of using that height. They have several players that can go up and high point the football. We’ll get a better idea of how good this team is when they play Every Inch Counts on Sunday night.

Who are Les Bleue Dry?

Can’t lie, I’m not too sure. One thing I do know is they’re 3-0 and have won each of those games fairly easily. They have a +/- of plus 54. The former McGill Redbird, Yvan Desjardins, is a solid two-way player. He leads the team with 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. QB Frederic Juneau is having a fantastic season with 16 touchdowns and only 1 interception. Thirty-nine percent of his completions have went for touchdowns. He has played with the Braves in a couple of FPF Cups and it seems to be paying off. Not too many better quarterback teachers than Johnathan Maheu. I am exciting to see these guys play when I get the chance.

Who’s in trouble?

I know it’s still early in the season but I have a hard time seeing Longhorns winning many games. They just don’t have enough speed to compete with the talent in the division. Lemme also say that I have always admired this team. When I first start playing FPF they were one of the more popular teams. Dave Allen has played over 300 FPF games and simply loves the game of flag. Unfortunately he and his boys have struggled mightily this season. They have given up over 47 PPG and struggled to move the football in their last 2 games. Their next game is a winnable one against Ballz Deep. A must-win.

Game Previews

Born in the 80s (2-2) VS Save the Turftles (1-2)

A very intriguing matchup tonight in Laval. Two of the more experienced teams. I played Born in the 80s last week and can say they don’t have many weaknesses. The team is led by two time All-Star Craig Browning. He is everywhere on he field all at once. David De Andrade is having himself a very nice season. He is averaging 5 TDs and 1 pick per game. Gotta like those numbers. He seems to be in more control of this offense than he has any offense the last few seasons. His play calling mixed with ability to fit the ball in tight windows makes him one of the best QBs in the division. Julien Proulx is a great leader for them defensively. He also has 5 receiving touchdowns on the season.

I expected a better start for Save the Turftles. QB Sébastien Noël did miss a game, but they have enough depth to be able to win even without him. Vincent Cheung is the guy Born in the 80s will need to take away to win tonight. It would be cool to see a Browning vs Cheung matchup on both sides of the ball. Tony Vo is a very quick and solid rusher for Safe the Turftles. I say he gets his first sack of the season tonight. This becomes a pretty crucial game for Save the Turftles. Falling to 1-3 in this competitive of a division is not ideal.

The game will be won and lost on first and second down. Neither defense can afford to let the offense get 6+ yards on first down. Both QBs are too good and comfortable to be in such situations. I can see this being a tight game with Born in the 80s scoring a touchdown late to seal the victory.

Final Score: Born in the 80s win 32-25
