A Fine Selection of My Biases

Peeze’s Playbook

By Paolo Della Rocca

Welcome to the Roadshow (Spring 2018)

Much like the new eom-centric Drake hit, I’m upset.  For a moment, I thought that One Speed: Power was going to the FPF finals.  As I am truly biased and have an obvious rooting interest I wanted to return from my vacation to play in an FPF championship game.  However, as Eagle messaged me immediately after the game “The clock hit midnight on Cinderella”.  I honestly thought OSP would give GloGang a run for their money.  If someone would have given me even money on One Speed: Power scoring 38 points.  I would have easily bet that GloGang were handed their first loss of the season.  However, this would not be the case.

Arno Desjardins was unstoppable.  Every time OSP seemed to have an answer Desjardins would suffocate their remaining hopes and dreams.  Will Power could not muster a score in the first two drives of the game.  This gave Desjardins and GloGang all they needed to keep the contest out of reach.  Olivier Suri caught 4 passes for 108 yards and 3 touchdowns and slightly outdid his more voluminous counterpart Harvey Lambert who caught 6 passes and scored twice.  For One Speed: Power, Alex Noel was the game breaker in a losing effort.  His nine catches was responsible for covering 158 yards of terrain, and scored 3 touchdowns.

The Ducks have now kept formation on into the FPF finals after a 26-20 win over Loyola’s Finest.  The turning point in this game seems to have come in the first half.  Alexandre Croteau caught one of his six passes and was making his way to the end zone whilst his flag had fallen off.  As the flag hit the ground without contact Loyola’s Finest defenders prepared for the next play in unison.  They were vehemently dismayed when the referees raised their arms and declared the result of the play a touchdown.  Loyola’s Finest were very disappointed and loudly proclaimed their displeasure with what was clearly the right call.

I thought EZW would make quick work of A-Side. That didn’t turn out to be the right call necessarily.  EZW would go on to win a tight game against A-Side by a score of 29-26.  Etienne Laurence-Gervais continues to be the hero for EZW in these playoffs.  His 4 touchdowns in this game matched his output in the second round and this output seems to be somewhat of a revelation to quarterback Jeremy White.  While replacing the injured Charles Olivier Lavigne, Etienne Laurence-Gervais has lined up in Lavigne’s typical left slot position and this seems to be the key to Jeremy White’s offence. A-Side did what they could to compete in this game.  Jarred Buck looked solid and Brendan Sabloff scored twice.  In the end they simply did not have the horses to get by EZW.  EZW are now the only remaining E2 team remaining in either DivE championship tournament.

The Rancerz game did not get off to a great start for the heroes of their own story.  Jeremie Ledoux threw interceptions to Kyle Pedvis and Joseph Kano early on and would never recover.  A huge key for Rancerz was that they were not able to get Riccardo Desrosiers going.  On the other hand there has been something about Evan Frank all season long.  He always seems to make plays no matter the circumstance.  The addition of Joe Kano to this team has helped all season and his two touchdowns in a 34-20 game.

Predictions and Other Lies

E1

GloGang (#1) vs. The U (#2)

It seems as though the selection committee got this bracket right.  The #1 team facing off against the #2 team.  In some ways it’s all you’d ever want.  This game will likely be a high scoring battle.  GloGang have a high flying offence. Arno Desjardins is aggressive and guys like Harvey Lambert can stretch the field and he’s just one of such weapons.  For the U, speed is not something they defend well against while I do expect that Evan Frank and his offence will likely put up their share of points as well. Unfortunately for the U I don’t think they will truly be able to keep up in what I expect to be a high scoring affair.

Prediction: GloGang 44-The U 34

E2

#1 EZW vs. #2 Ducks

EZW look to have Charles Olivier Lavigne back in the lineup.  His hip injury seems to have subsided and not even a boat falling on him (true story) will deter him from playing in the championship game. This will be one of the few games of the season where Jeremy White will have all of his weapons at his disposal.  Etienne Laurence-Gervais has done a great job in games where CO Lavinge has not played but is there enough ball to go around?  The ducks need to use their size advantage.  They have a lot of tall players who can cause havoc in the intermediate zones.  Mat Domon will need to slow the pace of the game.  If he does this I think he can be more efficient than Jeremy White.

Prediction:EZW 32-Ducks 19

Tuesday’s Tertiary Tyrannosaurus

I’m off to Nashville and will have limited sober time and wifi.  Please feel free to reach out but Simon Dagenais is now charged with running a smoothly operating roadshow.  Yell at him for a change.  I’ll be arriving just in time to do play-by-play for several games including both div E games.  Please excuse my slurred southern drawl.

For further info on this division and the rest of the league feel free to tune into Calling the Audible where Moe Khan, Simon Dagenais, Eagle at Master Control and GM Koletheras will discuss the why Chick Fil’A is better than Zaxby’s, the best looking girls in SEC towns and why pistachio nuts leave that “salty” feeling on your finger tips.

Tune in to the Facebook Live to join the show or to see us on You Tube or download us wherever you get your podcasts.  Good luck everyone!  Please feel free to reach me @peezefpf on twitter or @ Peeze Della Reeze on Facebook to let me know about the various ways in which I was wrong.
