A 35+ Football Story – Week 8

35+ FPF/KTFL Week 8 Article (or week 9 if you count the bye week)

Welcome to March and only a couple months remain till we can get the softball gloves out and wonder if our other old man sport will have a pitch clock like MLB and most importantly, start playing outdoors with Spring FPF. Of course, the most important part of the upcoming spring is Patio Season. 35+ FPF paused last week for spring break and to give all our old bones a chance to shake off all that soreness and give us a well needed rest for a playoff run to glory.

MLB Pitch count is necessary to have a quicker game as the TikTok generation couldn’t care less about baseball and it’s never-ending games.  While when announced, it didn’t seem like much but the gamesmanship between pitchers and batters is insanity. It’s created a whole new game within the game.  Pitchers rushing pitches like it’s last call at the bar. Batters using the only timeout with mind-game strategy.  Will be interesting to see how it all plays out throughout the season.  Most importantly, the game is much faster and better.  The NHL used to have 3 hours games and now you are pretty much done 2h15 with no OT, much easier for TV and fans to digest.  Baseball moving in the same direction thankfully.

Alouettes finally hopefully getting their sh*t together with proper local ownership.  Wtv you want to say about PKP and Videotron, at least he’s stepping up with deep pockets and maybe some stability which the franchise definitely needs.  MTL only supports winners and a half empty Molson stadium doesn’t work for the city or the CFL. Now if they just bring back the Concordes name, we will be all set.

Someone showed me how to make a shortcut for my email on my iphone.  I am forever in debt, I never had to type it out again and just hit @@ instead.  Brilliant. Game Changing. The kids these days think of everything. Settings/General/Keyboards/Text Replacement. Also whomever invented the thing were the PIN code you get via text now shows up at the top of your keyboard and you just click it to insert it, you are good people.

The picture on this article might be one of the worst team pictures ever taken, Campana and his snobby Photo demands probably have him rolling over in his grave (I know he’s not dead, but it’s the only analogy I could think of).

So time to dive into all the web of amazing and spectacular action that is 35+ FPF, who got better with the bye week, who ate too much and who forgot and drove to the field last Wednesday.  As Mr. Buffer says “it’s time!”, here we go.

Legends Division

Rainmakers 30 – Pacemakers 19

Maker vs Maker Round 3, and after 7 weeks of close calls, the Rainmakers have finally put it on the board.  The puzzle pieces come together finally as Kastner leads his motley crue to their first win.  Pacemakers have an off night giving up 3 INT’s as they fall to the no longer winless Rainmakers.  Scott Binns goes 5 for 5 on receptions but also get’s levelled about 12 times during the game, which isn’t great when coming off a concussion. Let’s give credit to Captain Ryan Kastner for keeping it together amidst 7 loses in a row and a rotating roster of players due to an insane amount of injuries, never an easy job, but now at least they can finally starting talking about putting together a winning streak!

Key Stats –  Andrew Carruthers with a Hat Trick of TD’s

Gladiateurs 38  – Monster 30

Les Gladiateurs have only 2 loses this season and both have come against Monster who hold the 2-0 record against them, we’ll much like the above game, they finally pick up a W against Monster and take the division lead with this victory. Monster digs a 13 pt hole in the first half but come back and win the 2nd half, but it was just a matter of too little too late. Alex Lever continues his dominant season with 10 catches for 3 TD’s.  Monster has a stats field day on defence with 8 different players with tackles, but with 39 attempts Gladiateurs were on the offensive field too much this day for Monster to pick up the win. Big week 10 match up between these 2 squads coming soon.

Key Stats – M. Lebeau with a killer day 24/39 for 279 Yards and 6 TD’s with 0 INT’s

KTFL Draft Division

FPF 39 – Paramount 38

Welcome to the shootout game of the week as these 2 top offences don’t disappoint and hit the end zones over and over. Alex Lever does double duty as he steps in for FPF at QB for an absent Rosenblatt and immediately gels with Adam Tock for 3 TD’s. FPF takes the halftime lead 25-13 but Paramount shows their moxie with a big 2nd half performance, but ultimately fall short by the dreaded single point.  Both pivots throw for 4 TD’s and also run one in each, but the 2pt Convert to Yoni ends up being the key difference in this week 8 battle which sees FPF lock down 1st place overall and become the regular season champions.

Key Stats – Adam Tock’s 2 way day with 6/8, 82 yards, 3 offensive TD’s combined with 4 tackles and a pick 6 on D.

Polvige 32   – JMJ 30

Another nail biter in the KTFL division which comes down to the last play of the game, as JMJ scores on the last play of the game, but cannot convert the 2pt conversion as Polvige defence stands tall to take the victory. Big game on offence by under the radar stalwart George Kalamvokis (he’s Greek if you didn’t know) who leads the offence for JMJ with 6 catches for 79 yards. However the day belong to Bryan Joseph who was the 2 way player of the night with 3 INT’s on defence and 2 Scores on offence. A late game pick by Jason Rossie almost snatches away victory from Polvige, but Purple takes the W and locks in 3rd place in the final standings. Both Qb’s go for 5 TD’s and 3 INT’s nut alas, Converts matter and Polvige picks up 2 pts on them and JMJ zero and that’s the way the football gods sorted out the score on this day.

Key Stats –  It was all Bryan Joseph this game on both sides of the ball, 3 catches for 2 TD’s, 6 tackles and 3 INT’s.

And with the end of week 8, KTFL Draft division heads into the playoffs next week!

2023 FPF/KTFL Draft Division Final Standings are

  1. FPF 5-3
  2. Paramount 5-3
  3. Polvige 4-4
  4. JMJ 2-6

Which means Semi Final playoffs match-up’s next week (March 15th 10pm) are as follows

  1. JMJ @ FPF
  2. Polvige @ Paramount

Lot’s of parity in the KTFL Draft division, all teams won against each other, so the playoffs are really anyone’s to take and win it all.  Good luck to all 4 teams next week, but let’s face it Polvige is going to win it all. 😊

Legends standings are still up for grabs with 2 more weeks to go.  2 points separate the top 3 teams, so the next 2 weeks will be critical in sorting out the final standings.

Random Topic of the Week
