A 35+ Football Story – Week 7

35+ FPF/KTFL Week 7 Article

Ah, February’s final games as we head into March. Spring is closer than ever and we are getting close to closing the door on these lovely MTL winters. FPF Spring and softball is just around the corner where we don’t need to wear out snowsuits to come out to play.

I gave the XFL exactly 1 quarter and it’s the same as any other spring league trying to find success, maybe it will survive, but it wasn’t anything special.  They are sure hellbent on making it a prep-school NFL as they mentioned countless times that these players are trying to get back to the big show.  But content is content and having more sports to watch isn’t a bad thing. Hot Take : the Rock is annoying in everything he does.  But he’s a billionaire and I’m writing this article so someone has chosen wisely. I don’t see any of the games showing up on TSN or Sportsnet for a week 2, so I guess without ESPN we not be seeing many game’s locally.

Again, the kids on the 3rd field 9pm game at Baie D’urfe were loud AF and enjoying the worlds greatest recreational league, love seeing and hearing the next gen of 35+ playing hard and respectfully.

I got nothing more to ramble about so time to get into our butter pants and start catching up on all the geriatric action from the 35+ divisions!

Legends Division

Monster 38 – Pacemakers 35

There is no team that scores more on less completions than Monster. Somehow they only complete 10 passes but score 6 TD’s for the win. That is insane. Pacemakers hold the halftime lead 22-18, but Monster again steps it up in the 2nd half for their first win vs Pacemakers this season. Both quarterbacks punch in five Touchdowns, but it’s Andy’s 5 TD’s on eight completions which leads monster to the victory. These teams have completed their season matchup, with Pacemakers holding a 2-1 edge.

Key Stats –  Chris Bockwell’s been quiet this year on the stat sheets but has an big night on offence with 9 catches, 92 yards and 2 TD’s, if he gets going for the playoffs, watch out.  Terrific Tony Lalla shines on D with 7 tackles.

Gladiateurs 32 –  Rainmakers  31

Rainmakers are 0-7, they have lost 5 games by 6 points or less, but you gotta give them credit for continuing the good fight and give them ALL the credit as they score in the final plays and turn up their noses at the single for the tie and go for 2 for the win. Unfortunately, the don’t cash in and Gladiateurs take the W.  With a rebuilt roster with Carruthers, Mallais and Rosen now locked in for the playoffs, Rainmakers are closer than ever to that first elusive W.  Gladiateurs win the convert battle 2-1 in what is the deciding factor in picking up their 4th win of the year. Both Qb’s shine here with 5 TD’s each and over 200 yards each and 6 players each with receptions and TD’s to multiple players.

Key Stats –  Lever’s solid 2 way day with 5 tackles, 8 catches, 79 yards and 2 TD’s after he got the sh*t kicked out of him at hockey a few days earlier.

KTFL Draft Division

Paramount 45 – Polvige 25

Polvige gets Glass Joe’d for the 2nd week in a row, as Paramount scores often leading them to the one sided victory. An injured Scott Binns is replaced by Super spare Dave Weiss in his final 35+ season and apparently we didn’t notice him as he rumbles for 3 TD’s on 7 catches for 112 yards. But not to be outdone, we also forgot about the other guys as four other players have touchdowns on multiple catches. If you don’t know, I’m on Polvige, so I’m a little tougher on my own team, as I know the guys can play much better and will come the playoffs. 35+ newcomer Steven Casselman Has a perfect night on offence with five catches on five attempts. Polvige super spare Dom Tosi picks up 2 TD’s on 5 catches but Paramount wins the spare and the game here and takes the season series 2-1.

Key Stats – Chris OlsOn owns the day here with an elite performance going 21 for 31, 7 TD’s, 0 INT’s and a 129.2 QBR. Mallais, I see your 2 picks but I don’t wanna talk about.

FPF 28  – JMJ 26

A mostly absent FPF team see’s Sean Avraam make his 35+ debut replacing Jeff Rosenblatt at QB.  He connects early and often with mostly new faces as he uses stalwarts Yoni, Mario and Moreau enroute to a close victory. JMJ weren’t too shabby as Rossie and GM connect for a last play of the game touchdown, but unfortunately they couldn’t connect for the 2 point conversion to get the tie. GM gets credit for still being alive for the last TD as a play earlier the was almost removed from the life equation after Yoni trucked him the play before. FPF with the victory takes the season series 2-1.

Key Stats –  Sean’s solid 17 for 23 debut and Moreau’s 7 tackles for FPF and for JMJ, the foolish and fantastic Tanner’s 5 Tackles and both Rossie Brothers with rushing TD’s.

Standings Check :

The March 8th games for the KTFL division is the season finale and without me spending 5 hours looking at tie breakers, looks like a battle for first next week between Paramount/FPF and a battle for 3rd/4th between JMJ and Polvige.  Everyone has beaten everyone in the KTFL division so once the standings settle, it’ll be anyone’s championship as we kickoff the playoffs on March 15th.

In the Legends division, with 3 regular season games remaining, the top 3 teams are 1 point apart with ahead by 1 point.  Much like KTFL division, the top 3 teams have all beaten each other so it’ll be anyone’s guess who finishes 1st.

Random end of article topic du jour.

There are 2 great story tellers of our day, Quentin Tarantino and Dave Grohl. I don’t love Foo Fighters, but Dave Grohl spins a great yarn, and QT just tells amazing stories.

I don’t know if these links will work in the post but you can google them if they don’t

Dave Grohl Wallet Story

RIP Taylor, what a musical journey from Sass Jordan to Alanis to the Foo.

Quentin on Lawrence Fishburne as Jules

2nd Random topic du jour.

If you don’t watch Hot Ones on youtube, you are missing probably the best interview show of all time.

Hot Ones – Dave Grohl

You have been warned about the Hot Ones Rabbit Hole, click once and you will probably spend the next 20+ hours watching amazing interviews.  Some great dialogue while watching people’s soul leave their bodies as they devour Hot Wings.

After 7 glorious weeks, 35+ goes on spring break for a week as the Dome is closed and our old asses need a week off to get recharged for the playoff run.  So sadly, no article next week but hopefully you’ll find something interesting to read.

Reminder to the legends divisions teams that all players need to play five games in order to be eligible for the playoffs, check your rosters online to ensure you are tracking properly to ensure playoff eligibility.

Enjoy a week off, as we come back better than ever on March 8th .

See you on the field

Thanks

Dave
