A 35+ Football Story – Week 12

35+ FPF/KTFL Week 12 Article

And then there was 1.

And a delayed final 1.

The scheduled final on Wednesday April 5th at Baie D’Urfe was not to be, as some freezing rain apparently fell and ripped the island into a new Ice Age.  The Day After Tomorrow : Part Deux.  Hydro is the best. (I know papa legault is reading this so I don’t want to offend.)   So what was a standard Wednesday at Baie D’Urfe, became Tuesday April 11th  at Stade Hebert. Also lockingin an earlier 8pm start, so would that mess with the old geezers and their pre-game naps?

Big change of night and location, can the 35+ Gran Torino Grumpy Old Men handle the change and still perform at a middle aged elite level? The bigger issue is scheduling, several play 35+ for the consistency of schedule, so moving a week later and to a new night isn’t the simplest of tasks.

Right off the bat, Dungeon Master Karl De Nie, Monsters elite rusher, was missing due to work travel so that’s a big loss and will affect’s Monster game planning.  Thankfully they run a deep roster and can adjust. Monster has played with as few as 6 players and as many as 12, so who knows how many were available for the new finale night.

Hey Raptors, learn how to close out a game.

Thanks for the trash season Habs, a rebuild with a billion injuries didn’t help, but let’s draft high and get back in it for next season. Wifi was the best find this year, you need talent, but you also need characters who can punch a whole through cement.

Congrats to Tara on her new appointment with the Als.  She’s a football rockstar.

Unfortunately after seeing every single 35+ game live this season, the re-scheduled night due to a previous commitment didn’t allow to see the final game live, so my comments are based on game sheet and not seeing it live.  Hopefully next season we don’t have any scheduling drama…. Enough random chit chat, Let’s see what happened in the last game of 35+ for the 2023 season.

Legends Division Finals

(1) Monster 46  – (2) Gladiateurs 31

Well Monster did what Monster did all season, score points on limited completions. Gladiateurs hang in strong with 31 points, but the extra score and an amazing 6/6 on converts by Monster see them take the 2023 35+ Legends Championship. Gladiateurs offence moves the ball well with 5 TD’s and 0 INT’s, but can’t punch it in on a couple key drives and come up short on their championship dreams.  Monster all year, as mentioned in a few articles scores often, have the best completions to TD ratio in probably FPF history, here again they get 6 TD’s on 11 completions, that’s crazy.  Of course, they double down on the crazy and go perfect on converts, hitting 4 2pt conversions and 2 singles.  They clearly didn’t miss Karl too much. Both teams showed up for an epic battle, but again, Congrats to Monster on their 2023 Championship.

Key Stats – Paul Lapierre’s 4 TD’s on 5 catches, Cory Cook with 9 tackles and the strongest stat of the year, 6 Td’s and 6 Converts for Monster.

** Stats are a bit of a mess for this game, all the point show in the first half and I cannot imagine a universe that has Jason Forand throwing 6 passes in favour of Francois Lebeau.

And that’s a wrap on 35+ FPF Winter 2023
