A 2013 Record is Broken, The Playoff Race and Iggy’s Prediction on Award Winners

First of all, welcome back. Second of all, you’re welcome. As you’ve surely seen, it’s now finally MUCH easier to see who’s in and out of the playoffs, as seen in the Overall Standings tab without the Divisional groups separating teams.

The next thing to call out, that a lot of Division 6 teams are perhaps not aware of, is that if you forfeit your last game of the season as a no-show (Category 1 Forfeit), in addition to the fine that you need to pay to the other captain (this is true throughout the season), but you also rescind your playoff spot and give it to the next team in line. So please, please, please, show up to your last game of the season!

Third, if you are really new to FPF this season, there was a record broken on Sunday, as shared by yours truly on Instagram live. Kevin Wyeth, FPF’s version of the NFL GOAT, Tom Brady, beat his own record of Touchdowns thrown in a season. His previous record was 66 TDs, which he tied in his game on Sunday March 26th, and threw one more to beat it, and then threw another 3 to hit 70 TOUCHDOWNS in a season. Unbelievable. SEVENTY. Think about it… just insane!

Ok, back to Division 6 talk. With the playoff picture much clearer, let’s take a look at who’s clinched a ticket the big dance so far, and who’s officially eliminated.

Divisional Thoughts

  • Yes, some of the standings and seedings are not correct. The league is aware and will be double-checking the standings to make sure the correct teams are placed in the correct order when it comes to tiebreaking scenarios. For example, yes, Eagle, your FA Squad is indeed behind Why So Serious for that last playoff spot.
  • While there are currently 9 teams with 7 wins or more, I think the parity in Division 6 was not so bad. There will always be bottom dwellers and top teams in every division, and I think that with 1 week left to go, where there are 9 teams that don’t make playoffs, for there to still be 4 of the teams in red still technically alive, means the Division wasn’t so mis-matched after all.
  • Win Diesel, Mountain Dew Babies and Fiddlers will be looking to win their final game to jump into the Top 8, which is clutch, as this automatically advances you past Round 1 of the playoffs.
  • A transformation that isn’t being talked about enough is Simon Constantineau of Mountain Dew Babies. Just 1 season ago in Division 6, he was part of the 0-10 San Francisco 69ers, and 1 year later he’s lead his team to a 6-2-1 record. The beauty of having even just a little bit of FPF experience under your (flag) belt. Experience and knowledge go a VERY long way in FPF. This gives some hope to the 0-10 Gyprock State University and Tex4s Chooches of this year to come back next year and see success.
  • Demons got a clutch win in their final game of the season against Practice Squad (6) to keep their season alive. It started with a great diving interception on defense from Quang Le on the tip drill on the 1st play of the game. The Demons defense was strong throughout in this one, as they picked off Joseph Shporer another 3 times to carry them to the victory.

  • Last week, we had a shocked (Jason) Armenti. This week, we had a confused Armenti. Confused as in, how Peeze and Moe picked The Royals over Wild Hogs during the GAMES OF THE WEEEEK segment of Calling The Audible. Granted, The Royals were without Ryan McGrath, which changes the dynamics considerably. It forced Eric Pawlusiak to slide out of the WR2 position and into the QB slot. For someone who has thrown 4 career passes in 178 regular season games, going 15/31 for 158 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs with a 95.9 QB rating is not bad AT ALL. Formidable performance in the relief effort, but Wild Hogs are simply too experienced on both sides of the ball and too strong for Pawlusiak to go score for score with the Armenti-led offense.
  • TuneSquad in Week 11 got a statement victory over Maccabees, laying the thump on them 31-12, although Maccabees would say their starting QB wasn’t there and would have been a closer game. I would agree.
  • Fiddlers have been up and down this year, and on Wednesday beat out the Betway Bandits 33-25. The Bandits have now dropped 3 in a row and might make it 4 losses in a row when they face the undefeated Habibis on the last day of FPF’s regular season.
  • TuneSquad will have a nice test against The Habibis. Have they finally put it all together to beat an undefeated squad?

Trophy Talk 🏆

  • The QBOY award is a fascinating race. While Emerson Peterkin has great QB stats, both passing and running, it looks like he’s a leader for 2-way player of the year. Excluding his name for now, Noah Swaminadhan is in the lead position right now with a high of 44 TDs and a low of 5 INTs. You then have Jason Armenti, Justin Gauthier and Tyler Havlena who have a game left to pad their stats. Armenti might be on the outside looking in, since you can’t wipe out interceptions and has the most (13) amongst the group, despite his recent run of 20 TDs and 3 INTs.
  • Iggy’s Prediction for QBOY: Noah Swaminadhan
  • With the LaSalle Warriors Midget regular season wrapped up, Princeton Cruikshank‘s number are frozen at 584 yards and 18 TDs. Great numbers for his first season in the FPF Senior division. With 1 game left on his schedule, it appears that Xavier Hilditch will be running away with the award. 708 yards is a BIG deal. Even with 1 less TD than Cruikshank, the 120 yards more is the equivalent of 3 drives worth of offense. If he can get 3 TDs in The Royals last game, he could reach 20 TD’s.
  • Iggy’s Prediction for ROY: Xavier Hilditch
  • While Gru’s Crew is eliminated from the playoffs, Sam Anastasopoulos has a shot at defensive player of the year. Tied with 11 INTs with the Wild Hogs’ Avery Klimas, both players have 1 more game remaining on their schedule to try to add to their pick totals. Wild Hogs are playing against Why So Serious, where quarterbacks have thrown 25 interceptions, while Gru’s Crew face off against Towers FT tonight at Saint-Laurent, who have thrown 10 INTs so far, so the odds are in favor of Klimas. That said, Anastasopoulos has the edge with the 1 pick 6, while Avery has the advantage of having done very close to equal stats, in 1 less game. (Stats are not pro-rated though, which is different than what I said. This is having the same stats in 1 less game vs. having 6 INTs in 5 GP’s (which would prorate to 12 INTs in 10 Games, which we don’t do)). See the difference? I love what both players bring to the defensive side of the ball, but I’m going with Klimas, as he might get 2 INTs this upcoming Saturday and having done equal value in 1 less game does it for me.
  • Iggy’s Prediction for DPOY: Avery Klimas
  • Is anything more clear than Emerson Peterkin winning 2-way player of the year? Most offensive yards as a QB, most defensive INTs with 13, 2 Pick 6’s…. Hands down, no questions here. I’ve mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. The 2-way player of the year award IS the most prestigious in FPF. For some reason, people think it’s doing somewhat well in both categories, which couldn’t be further from the truth. It means you were DOMINANT in both, where you could win Offensive player (QB/Receiver) or Defensive player of the year if they weren’t winning 2-way. I don’t select award winners, but congrats Emerson, with your 12-year old picture smiling down on Div 6 where you dominated.
  • Iggy’s Prediction for 2-Way Player: Emerson Peterkin
