Bombsquad’s Breakdown

Ah, week seven in the books and where do we stand? Well, three games left until the playoffs begin. You can feel it in the air. In order to figure out who will make the grade and move into the second instalment of the season, we shall have to review the happenings of the past weekend! So…

Countdown to detonation.

7. X’s and O’s battle the Wildcats but come up short losing 38-32. Josh Vazquez rallied the troops and made a valiant effort as he tossed 4 TD’s for 160 yards and ran for 50 as well. But the enigma that is the Wildcats would not be denied. Pierre-Marc Chadi led his team throwing for 180 yards and 6 touchdowns to sustain the Cats’ 2011 playoffs dreams. Where is each team headed?

6.  Well they didn’t tie! Tony Tabet returns to the helm for the Wolverines as they outlast the Air Squad 31-26. The big difference in this game was the two interceptions forced by the Wolverines defence, in the battle of the winless. The experience in division 2 by the Wolverines saved the day. The yardage and touchdowns were virtually identical by Tabet and Matt René. This game is proof of what happens if you don’t win the turnover battle. Hard fought game by two teams really trying to reverse the course they have been heading on all season. Congrats to both teams!

5. All Blacks get deep sixed as the JF Marcotte and Pat Jerome show continues. The All Blacks go down to the Triple Sixers 27-6. This game seemed like the Sixers had the All Blacks figured out from the get go. Chris Bridgeman was not able to buy as much time with his legs as rusher Tam Vilaydeth was all over him, sacking him 3 times. Meanwhile, Karim Chaoual continued the two-trick pony act, by throwing a pair of TD’s, each to Jerome and Marcotte. Funny thing is, everyone seems to know where he’s going to throw but nobody seems able to stop it. Innnnnnteresting (as I run my fingers together like Mr. Burns in a Simpsons episode).

4. Ruff Ryders taint the Gold Standard beating them 31-27. Both Paul Lapierre and Jay Ulley didn’t turn over the ball, but the first half was a little too much to come back from for the Gold Standard as they were down 19-7. Very valiant in the second half, they closed the gap and Jason Prince proved to us all that every dog DOES have its day, as he made an incredible catch over Rochdi Benabdelkader on a big fourth down play. In the end, it wasn’t enough though. Is the Standard getting their swagger back? Will the Ruff Ryders go undefeated?

3. Without Craig O’Brien, the O.N.S. crew got kicked out of bed by the Mercenaries 33-21. Ryan Brewster started out at QB in the first half and just couldn’t get it going as the Mercenaries got out to a 27-6 lead. Kishon Thompson came in and did an admirable job throwing, but it just wasn’t enough. The One Nighters did a great job on defence in the second half as they held their opponents to only 6 points. Gino Di Fazio had another strong outing, but can they put one over on the Ruff Ryders, as they clash this weekend?

2. The G-Men squeak by the Wolfpack 26-25 and leave them with a limp paw. This had to be a bitter loss for the Pack. Danny Gentile made his return to the G-Men family, but just couldn’t seem to hook up with speedster Nathan Taylor. Guess he’s not use to having such speed at his disposal. Pascal Murray had the better game at QB, but a pick-6 by Paul Kamel proved costly in the end. As usual the G-Men find a way to get it done. Wolfpack need to get back on track to maintain their position in the playoffs.

1. A Benny Goodfriend-led Kingz destroyed MOMO Nation 39-12. Goodfriend filled in for Carmine Pollice in both this Kingz game, and the division 1 Demons game. Unfortunately for MOMO he played the Demons game first and got himself all warmed up, as he tossed 247 yards and 6 TD’s with no INT’s. The MOMO Nation must be uncomfortable as I am sure they feel the Wolverine’s breath on the back of their necks.

Boom, sha-boom, lalalalalalalalalalalal SHA Boom. As sung by Brad Wesley in Roadhouse, while swerving from one side of the road to the other.

Well, with the playoffs getting ever closer, I guess we need to address what’s happening.

Conference A

Well All Blacks losing to the Triple Sixers is nothing to be ashamed of or even worried about. Now you just have to fend off the Gold Standard, who is nipping at your heels. That tie earlier in the season is looming large as the Golden boys sit 3 points back with 3 to play. The Wolfpack are currently benefitting from a tie as well as, they sit in third ahead of the fourth-seed Kingz and the fifth-seed One Night Stands. The X’s and O’s are maintaining that 3 point lead over the hapless Air Squad who just can’t seem to get a win. The nails are almost all hammered in now as the season closes….but it ain’t over!

Conference B

This could be an interesting weekend if the Ruff Ryders fall to the Mercenaries. That would leave the Mercs with a three way tie for first in the conference and with those same Mercenaries sitting only 12 points away in the point differential category; this could be a very tight race. Meanwhile, the Triple Sixers and the Wildcats round out the top five. The real story here is the Wolverines sitting a single point back of MOMO Nation with three games to go and they square off in two weeks. Oh boy this is getting good. After I had all but written the Wolverines off…here they come a rapping, and so faintly they come tapping, tapping at my chamber door.

SHOWSTOPPA!!! In a loss I have to give this week’s showstoppa title to the second half defence of O.N.S. as they gave up 27 in the first half then adjusted and only gave up 6, in the second, while trying to claw their way back. Great job boys!

The Golden Boy this week is a guest star from division 1, in his first weekend throwing this season,  Benny Goodfriend threw for 247 yards (67 yards more than the next QB) and a big 6 TD’s. Very surprised no one tried to recruit him at the beginning of the season to throw. Congrats Benny!

And last, but not least, I believe there are some picks to be made, so without further ado…

The All Blacks try to remain atop the Gold Standard in conference A as they play none other than the Gold Standard. Only this week the boys in Gold will prevail and they are licking their wounds from the hard fought battle with the Ruff Ryders. Shane Williams’ return will spark the Standard and their defence is better than the Triple Sixers’. All Blacks have a chance, but they need some creative offence to have a hope.

The Wolverines get rewarded after their first win with another loss, as they play the G-Men. Gianni Settino should be back this week and even if Tony Tabet is holding the reins again, this is just a mismatch from the get go. Best of luck, but the G-Men will win.

The X’s and O’s take on O.N.S. I believe that even if Craig O’Brien is not present again, that O.N.S. will overtake the X’s and O’s. Kishon Thompson did a good job last week filling in at QB and I believe that should be enough to win this game. They have much more experience, and that alone will give them what they need to prevail.

The Air Squad take on the enigma that is the Wildcats. And the enigma will hand the Squad their 8th consecutive loss of the season. The Squad fight hard but just can’t seem to finish their games and get a victory. If you ask me, it seems this team has a “Void”, they should have filled.

MOMO Nation is next on the docket for the surging Triple Sixers. I do not believe that MOMO has the defenders capable of stoping Pat Jerome. Also Yannick Vanasse is going to have a long night with Tam Vilaydeth, the specialty rusher, used only against mobile QBs, on his ‘Vanasse’, excuse my language. Karim Chaoual will pick apart the defence and bring the victory home.

The Wolfpack will have their hands full this week as they take on the Kingz. Coming off a very close loss to the G-Men, the Pack are hungry to redeem themselves. Unfortunately, I believe Carmine Pollice is just as discouraged with his Kingz record, and will be looking to move up the playoff seeding ladder. In the end I believe the Kingz will edge out the Wolfpack in another very close battle.

And finally the Empire implodes as the Mercenaries take on the Ruff Ryders. As mentioned above, this game can cause some very interesting playoff implications. Not to mention anytime these boys face off, it is a very intense and physical battle. Needless to say if you find yourself near Catalogna field 3 Sunday at 9, stop in and take a peak. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. And Rochdi, don’t injure me again. Please?
