Division A: Nearing The Mid-Season Point

Hey everyone, as by the time this article is out, it is Week 5 of our 11-week season. Every team would have played minimum three games by the end of Week 5 so we can have an idea of how every team’s foundation is for the rest of the season. Let’s review my Week 4 predictions:
PartyCrashers vs Braves
Game Info: Friday June 13, 10:00pm, Laval (outdoors)
Prediction: PartyCrashers 38 – Braves 41
Final Score: PartyCrashers 33 – Braves 36
For this game, I mentioned that if Emerson Peterkin would play, that this can change the dynamic of this contest. I predicted a three point contest and it ended in a three point contest. Even without WR1 Jeremy Murphy, Braves were able to score at ease. James Drysdale put up 4 TD before he left the country to represent Canada across the border in Los Angeles. Opposing to him, Peterkin had 3 TDs of his own. The two INTs from Jeanslee Alexis do hurt as both of those ended with Braves’ TDs. It’s another close game from the Braves but it does question if they keep these games close, will they always win? For PartyCrashers, they proved they can compete with the best if they play a mistake-free game but will they when the time counts?
The Infantry vs Vultures
Game Info: Sunday June 15, 8:00pm, Laval
Prediction: The Infantry 38 – Vultures 30
Final Score: The Infantry 36 – Vultures 30
In my prediction, I had both Ben McMahon and Kevin Wyeth playing and The Infantry winning the game. The Infantry did win the game but with Jaylan Greaves at QB. Jaylan is no Wyeth but he did put a performance for the victory. I was scorekeeping on the other field and was able to catch a few plays from this game. McMahon was able to move the ball near flawlessly and Anthony Drysdale had a perfect game with 10 receptions and 2 TDs. Unfortunately for Vultures, Rory Semerjian out-did Drysdale with 4TDs of his own. Athletic plays were made from both sides including a nice run from McMahon that included several missed tackles and a nice toe-tap conversion catch from Matt Bond. Even without Wyeth, this was what The Infantry needed to stay in the hunt and for Vultures, even with the loss, it’s a step towards the right direction.
Week 5 review:
Vultures – The Jamesons
Game Info: Monday June 16, 8:30pm, Marie Victorin
Final Score: Vultures 41 – The Jamesons 26
Playing a back-to-back, Vultures needed to win this one. After playing in my Division C game, I watched the beginning of this matchup. From what I saw, Vultures had control on offence as McMahon had only one incomplete pass in the first half (2 in the whole game). Everything was working for Vultures. The Jamesons weren’t able to handle the offence of Vultures even though they were keeping up on the offensive end in the first half. Multiple dropped passes were made. This wasn’t the normal team for The Jamesons as they had a handful of subs and Jeff Rosenblatt did everything that he could to make it work but the lack of chemistry for The Jamesons was visible. If both teams were at full strength, the outcome may have been different but we can’t play in a world of what-ifs right?
One Stop – Idaho Udapimps
Game Info: Friday June 20, 9:00pm, Laval
Final Score: One Stop 22 – Idaho Udapimps 40
One Stop playing two games in Week 5, I had unofficially predicted them to split the matchups and this was the game I had them losing. Not that One Stop couldn’t beat Idaho Udapimps but the lack of games played from One Stop at this point, I felt that couldn’t contribute to things being a tougher start. Brady Ohanessian played a great game with 5TDs and three of those going to Felix Boutet. For One Stop, Thomas Angelin had a great rushing performance with 3 sacks but without an INT and just one pass deflection as a team, it would be tough to compete with Idaho with their star power. Idaho Udapimps didn’t do much better with defensive stats but they got stops when it matters and scored more consistently. A chance to regroup for One Stop before their Sunday game against The Infantry and for Idaho, back in the win column for a team with a ton of talent.
Week 5 Prediction:
One Stop – The Infantry
Game Info: Sunday June 22, 10:00pm, Laval
Prediction: One Stop 35 – The Infantry 33
As I mentioned earlier, I predicted One Stop to split their Week 5 record and to lose against Idaho Udapimps. I do have them winning against The Infantry due to the fact that I don’t know what roster of The Infantry will be at the game. Last week was Father’s Day and that can be the reason for Wyeth not being at the game but if he was to miss this game too, I can’t make good predictions where their QB has missed more than half of the season. For One Stop, they need to score and take advantage that The Infantry’s has been losing close matchups. They have played already and One Stop won 33 – 26 in Week 2. Wyeth was there and threw 3 INTs but I don’t think he will throw 3 INTs again. Playmakers on One Stop such as Jahnai Lewis and Charles Cossette need to have big games. For The Infantry, I’m counting on Semerjian having a great game and if Greaves is playing, no matter the position, will have an impact.
Week 6 Prediction:
The Jamesons – One Stop
Game Info: Monday June 23, 7:00pm, Stade de Montreal
Prediction: The Jamesons 42 – One Stop 34
One Stop is on a heater with three games in less than 72hrs. Playing in more games in that span than all season, a lot of good and bad can happen. The Jamesons losing against Vultures in Week 5 without their main guys isn’t unusual and if Jordan Panetta, Daniel Mancini and Adam Rosen are there, I do think The Jamesons will come out on top. This game can come down to the wire and I think with FPF veterans that The Jamesons have, they can control the game better and avoid making a mistake. I can also see a world where Rosenblatt has a roster like last week and One Stop scoring 40+ points in that case but I have to stick to my gut and assume that last week was a one off.
