Who’s The New Writer For The Same Elite Competition In Division A?

Hey everyone, my name is Keyon Cyrus and I’m the new writer for this Spring’s 2025 Division A season. As a player and scorekeeper in FPF, I have the opportunity to start writing for the top men’s division in FPF. As I play on three teams in FPF (Division C, D & E) and working for FPF, I get to witness a lot of flag in passing and seeing the top players in flag is always a privilege. It’s already been two and a half weeks and there’s a lot to unpack in Division A. All the games have been close as there hasn’t been any contest decided by less than one score expect one. That’s expected in the best division in flag. Division A for Spring 2025 has 7 teams this season, all with the talent to win it all. Several are making the jump from Division 2 to Division A, will they be able to handle the competition? Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s introduce them as they all played at least two games so far:
Braves (3-0)
Is this a surprise to anyone to see Braves at the top of the pack? After winning both Division 1 & 5v5 Competitive in the winter season, Braves are looking towards completing the 3 peat at the top of the FPF world. Jonathan Maheu is doing what he does best in FPF, win games at an elite level. With over 850yds & 19TDs in 3 games, Braves’ offence will be tough to stop once again. Jeremy Murphy is already in season form but was there any doubt that he would start off hot out of the gate? Murphy is accounted for nearly 40% of Maheu’s total yards and more than half of his TDs, Murphy is already leading all WRs in every category. This team seems to make matchup nightmares no matter the roster with Gabriel-Charles Dabe Champagne, James Drysdale and Emile Chateauvert, the chemistry with this team is unmatched. Having Isiah Allard rushing opposing QBs will always be a challenge and with the talent that’s behind him such as Phil Pharand, Maheu and Murphy, the Braves’ defence will more than likely be near the top. As they are the early season favourite, will the Braves get bored of winning or will they run the table like they have over the past seasons?
Vultures (2-0)
Is this Vultures team the real deal in Division A? After a 5-5 finish in Division 2, Vultures have made the jump into Division A. Early season chatter would have wondered if Vultures can hang among the best teams in FPF and they have proven that so far and some. At QB, Benjamin McMahon might not have the same elite throwing numbers as the top QBs in the division so far but with 0 interceptions and a 70% completion percentage, if he continues that, Vultures can compete with anyone in the division. Kevin Donnet has been a weapon for McMahon led teams in the past and with receivers such as Anthony Drysdale, Felix Clairmont and Alexandre Szalipszki, this team can compete with the rest of the division. The team also have a solid defensive squad. From having Samuel Omombo who has won multiple DPOYs and Clairmont, they are both rising starts of FPF and opposing teams should take notice. Each has an INT to start the season so keep an eye on both of them with those numbers down the line.
One Stop (1-1)
One Stop are playing most of their games later in the season—as of the end of Week 4, they’ll have only two games played. The question is: can they adjust on the fly while other teams use these early weeks to correct their mistakes? Regardless, they sit at 1-1 in Division A after finishing 6-4 in Division 2 during the Winter 2025 season. Michael Caparelli is now starting in Div A, and it wasn’t long ago that he debuted in FPF, throwing in Division D in Spring 2022. In the season opener, he showed that his accuracy remains intact, completing 70% of his passes. However, he’ll need to be more aware of pressure—being sacked four times in the season opener is a concern. If he can adjust to the quicker rushers in Div A, he certainly has the arm to light up the scoreboard. Their second game, a 35-point loss to the Braves, was a rough one. But perhaps it serves as a wake-up call against arguably the best men’s flag football team in Canada. On defence, Mathis Pilon, Charles Cossette, and Jahnai Lewis each recorded an interception in Game 1. If this defence can continue to generate turnovers, One Stop could quickly become a threat despite the early hiccup. Braves might’ve given One Stop a taste of what Division A is all about but with a long season ahead, they have the man power to put this behind them.
Idaho Udapimps (1-1)
With new jerseys, will Idaho Udapimps get a championship in Div A? Another Division 2 team making the jump, this team has the talent to compete with the best of them. Idaho finished with a 6-4 record in Division 2 and had the 4th highest points for in the division. This team can score with amount of weapons QB Brady Ohanessian has which is also now including Felix Boutet who is already 2nd in yards in the division, I’ll be surprised if they aren’t near the top in points scored. What will determine if Idaho Udapimps can compete in Div A is their defence. They have several great defenders in Jerome Hovington, Marvin Steinberg and Danick Coulombe. They’ll need those guys to play a huge part as every team in Div A can score 35+ on any given game. Sitting at 1-1 already, the points for are high and the points against are nearly identical. It’s still early in the season so they will have enough time to adjust but will they?
The Jamesons (1-2)
Already have played 3 games so far, The Jamesons as sitting as expected on the table. The Jamesons have competed in 5v5 competitive in their past recent seasons so coming back to 6v6 was on the agenda. What makes this team unique is their ability to throw deep and they have two QBs that can do so. Jeff Rosenblatt and Jordan Panetta both have the arm to stretch the defence. They have shown it with each averaging 250yds per game this season. Daniel Mancini has been consistent for both QBs as he already has 4 TD this season. With receivers such as Nicholas Groppini and Adam Rosen, the offense shouldn’t have issue scoring in Division A On defence, bringing Jessica Bositampen, who is arguably the best women’s rusher in Canada, is an upgrade that shouldn’t be overlooked. But she can’t do it alone. Having defensive talent in Tysen Otis Copeland, Anthony Brisebois, among others, if they can hold opposing WRs from being open, Bositampen will be able to get sacks constantly. With playing three games already, this team can use that to see their positives and improvements to be made in order to make a deep run in the playoffs.
PartyCrashers (0-2)
Can arguably the most athletic team in Division A win it all? PartyCrashers are back in Division A after a successful 6-4 record in Winter and they finished 7-3 last spring in Div A. This team is experienced, talented on both sides of the ball and aren’t afraid to show their emotions when someone comes up with a huge play. They are starting 0-2 but both loses were within a TD. With Jeanslee Alexis under center, defences will have to keep guessing whether he will air the ball out deep or use his legs which he has already 95yds and a TD in two games. Having receiver connections already with Jordanson Alexis and Mendel Joseph helps bring the best out of this offence. Like most teams in this division, it will come down to stops from the defensive side of the ball. Zachary Alexis has the only INT for this team so far and as much as they can score, if they can’t create turnovers, winning games won’t come easy. PartyCrashers typically do well during the season so I won’t be surprised if they can turn it around by mid-season.
The Infantry (0-2)
Can the addition of Kevin Wyeth push The Infantry over the top? The Infantry is talented across the board. Leading the squad is Rory Semerjian who if he doesn’t have the ball in his hand, you are sure to hear his voice managing the game as a two-way player. The Infantry has a great supporting cast with Marc-André Lapointe and new addition with Matt Bond who has chemistry with Wyeth, the question is how long will it take for this team to adjust to their new QB? On defense, having Ethan Adrian is huge and as the seasons go on, Adrian has gotten better as a rusher and it’s no surprise as he leads to the division with 5 sacks in two games. Similarly to PartyCrashers, both losses from The Infantry were by less than a TD and one of those losses was a three point defeat to the Braves. Having Charles Olivier Vachon and Quaysie Gordon-Maule on the back end, The Infantry have the ability to be a dark horse. Saying that team with Wyeth on it is considered a dark horse is hard for a lot to think but that’s how talented the division is. This team may be 0-2 but with the talent on this team, I believe it won’t be long until they are on the win column.
Week 3 Predictions:
Vultures vs Braves
Game Info: Sunday June 8, 11:00am, Loyola Maisonneuve, field 1
A battle between two undefeated teams will unfold Sunday morning in Montreal West. For Vultures, this game can prove whether they can compete with the best of the best. For Braves, this game will be once again an opportunity to prove that they are indeed the team to beat. In order for Vultures to win, McMahon would need to avoid turnovers against this Braves squat who so far, surprisingly haven’t been taking the ball away from their opponents. They are active with their hands but with only one INT so far, for Vultures, they don’t want this to be a game for Braves to get back into rhythm. For Braves, the key is their offence. Murphy has been lighting up every team he’s played against and even though any Braves receiver can go off, it’s near impossible to have an even opposition for Murphy. Maybe Omombo can be that but that’s still a big ask for someone of Omombo’s elite defensive mindset. If Braves aren’t pressured and can move the ball with ease, this won’t be a difficult game for them. I think this will be a close game and Braves will edge out Vultures from being careful with limited turnovers and a big game from Murphy.
Prediction:
Braves 45 – Vultures 39
The Infantry vs PartyCrashers
Game Info: Sunday June 8, 9:00pm, Laval field 1
This game will likely allow one team to earn its first win of the season—and in Division A, every game counts, especially with how competitive the league is. Both teams have shown they can compete with anyone, but neither has broken into the win column yet. For The Infantry, the key lies in the connection between Wyeth and his receivers. Widely considered the GOAT among FPF quarterbacks, if there’s anyone to move The Infantry into contention, it’s Wyeth. While the first two games weren’t bad offensively, three interceptions already show they must capitalize better on scoring chances. Huge offensive performances from Bond and Vachon can open the doors for The Infantry. They’ve converted 50% of their 2-point attempts; if they push that higher, the game could be decided on converts. PartyCrashers, meanwhile, have the athletes to match up defensively. They’re quick and can stay with any receiver, but they need to create more turnovers. With just one interception and two sacks so far, they’re not making things easier for their offence. Joseph is expected to play a huge role in this game on both sides of the ball. Offensively, like The Infantry, PartyCrashers must avoid turnovers. Alexis has three INTs despite being the duel-threat QB of his skillset. Lastly, PartyCrashers haven’t converted a single extra point—something they must fix in a close game. This game is expected to be high scoring since both defences haven’t had much takeaways so far but due to Wyeth’s better efficiency towards converts, I believe that those points will influence the game early on for The Infantry’s favour.
Prediction:
The Infantry 48 – PartyCrashers 38
Week 4 Preview:
Idaho Udapimps vs The Jamesons
PartyCrashers vs Braves
The Infantry vs Vultures
Closing Remarks
That’s all for this article! Next week will include not only the predictions for the next slate of game but I’ll be including my choice of X-Factor for every team that I believe that can take their respective teams to the top. These players might not be the number 1 option on their team but their role can be sneaky underrated and that’s hard to say with all these athletes playing in Div A.
