Batman in Flashpoint, TMNT, and a brutal Co-Ed 2!

Holy rusted metal Batman! I’m back from a long vacation and missing 2 weeks of FPF has left me wanting some football! A new TMNT trailer has dropped, and although I had my reservations about Seth Rogen being in charge of something like this…. I’m feeling super stoked for it! With most teams having only 1 more game to play, we have a clear picture of who will make the playoffs, but the actual seeding is still very tenuous! I’m not sure if I’m allowed to have a bias, but Co-Ed 2 is winning me over for – most interesting division. Let’s get started.

THE UNSTOPPABLE THOUGHTS OF A MAD MAN

  • FITSQUAD is standing atop of the division, and even if BENCHWARMERS win their game against TEAM ROCKET (I think they will), I don’t foresee FITSQUAD losing to BADGERS. Their #1 spot seems to be safe.
  •  It is a fight to stay out of the Elimination zone! Unfortunately, BLOCK PARTY and FLAMINGOS are out of the running for the post-season, but TEAM ROCKET is holding on by a thread! A recent loss yesterday (which i’ll cover next article) puts HUNGRY HIPPOS in a precarious situation. With 9 games played, they sit on the edge of the elimination zone with 6pts. Both VILLAINS and TEAM ROCKET have 2 games left to play, and as long as either team wins at least 1 game, it will be hard for the HIPPOS to hold on through a tie breaker. Every game matters, and no one can give an inch!
  • KISS MY END ZONE has 2 games left and is in a decent spot to win both. Which would push them a little bit closer to the top of the division. It won’t get them 1st or 2nd, but should allow them to face easier teams early in playoffs!
  • Chris Rivest is pulling away for QB of the year, but games played might become a factor since William Broussard and Iggy Valdes both are in the hunt (missing only 5-6TDs), with a few less games played. Iggy will get 2 more games while William will only get 1 more. I think Chris Rivest will need to get at least 3 more TDs in his last game against William Broussard and FITSQUAD to be safely ahead of the competition. Iggy will need to put up 10-13 TDs in his next 2 games, if he wants to be able to fight for that #1 spot! It’s still anyone’s game, especially since Mikael Arseneau technically is tied with Christ Rivest in TDs if you include rushing TDs (which I obviously do) and could still have a stellar performance against TEAM ROCKET to solidify a spot over Rivest in TD’s! GOOD LUCK QB’s
  • The race for Receiver of the year is coming down to the final 3: Oumar Toure (15 TDs – 1 game remaining), Boudjema Saada (15 TDs – 1 game remaining), and Nassim Ouadhi (12 TDs – 2 games remaining). Oumar Toure started the season only getting 1 or 2 TDs a game, but has recently amped it up, getting 3-3-4 TDs in the past 3 games he played. If he can continue it, he can end the season with 18 TDs. Boudjema Saada, is right on Oumar’s trail, but usually only getting 1 or 2 TDs a game will make it difficult to finish the season with more than 17…18 if he is lucky. Nassim Ouadhi, although already 3 TDs behind, has 2 games left to play! If he can get 6-8 TD’s in the next 2 games (he should be asking to be fed the ball in the red zone), I think he can take the lead for Receiver of the Year. Either way, the game against BENCHWARMERS will set the tone and let us know if he will keep up!
  • Nicholas-Gomes Risso was on his way to being defensive player of the year with 7 INTs and 3 TDs! Missing the rest of the season will definitely hurt his chances if Clifdji Solon or Mikael Arseneau get more INTs. Will BENCHWARMERS be able to adjust on defense? Melissa Rochefort and Michael James will need to step up and fill the hole in their defense.
  • Julian McLaren-Thompson from FIGHTIN’ TIGERS is easily rockin the top of the division as rusher extraordinaire! I usually say rushers should be trying to get 2 sacks a game (1 per half), and even that is incredibly hard… Julian has surpassed that! Realistically, it’s just a fight for 2nd place at this point between the rest of the rushers! Lucas Quenneville is currently in 2nd with 8 sacks, and I’m in 3rd with 7 sacks.
  • FLAMINGOS and BLOCK PARTY duked it out 2 weeks ago! The 2 winless teams went head to head and FLAMINGOS came out the victors! William Ducas came out of that game as the better QB, having more TDs including 1 with his legs, as well as more completions. Both teams had an interception, 2 scoops of PDs and were tied going into the second half. But FLAMINGOS were able to outscore their opponents in the 2nd half after some adjusting.
  • BENCHWARMERS lost to FIGHTIN’ TIGERS, which was an upset I didn’t see coming, but shouldn’t hurt their playoff spot that much.

TEAM REVIEWS

THE IG TEAM:

This IG TEAM is new to the league, and doing a quick run through of their roster, this is the first year in FPF for most of their players. Finding early success and winning the first 3 games of the season against HUNGRY HIPPOS, FLAMINGOS, and DEEP BALLZ, they have just added BLOCK PARTY and BADGERS to the list. Unfortunately, The IG TEAM has not been able to break the ceiling into the top tier of the division. All of their wins come from the lower half of the division and they have lost against strong teams: BENCHWARMERS, FITSQUAD, FIREBALL, and have even against the 3-5 VILLAINS. Jeanslee Alexis is doing his best with 22 TDs in 8 games played is good, but won’t be good enough for Co-Ed 2, despite his 3 rushing TDs! Teams are finding that they need at least 4 TDs a game and sometimes 5-6, to take home the win.

Shandy Louis -Jacquet (8 TDs) and Jordanson Alexis (7 TDs) are the big scorers for this team, but that doesn’t mean they are the only deadly threat! Justine Deschamps (2 TDs) and Jeanne Gravel (1 TD) are both hovering around 200 yards each. I spoke of their defense a bit in the Report Card, but I’ll reiterate it here: This defense rocks. I’m sad that I don’t see more sacks on the team (as a rusher, I’m biased), but with 17 INTs, 18 PDs, and 3 TDs, this team is almost complete! They are most likely safe and headed into the playoffs, but should treat every game as though it is their last. Offense will need to tighten up and complete more passes if they want to keep up in the postseason; each receiver has close to 50% catch rate, besides Justine Deschamps, who’s at 73.9%. I can see IG TEAM getting to the quarter or semi-finals if other teams aren’t careful.

Prediction : 6-4

BADGERS:

BADGERS popped up in the Co-Ed Cup and did not fair well. However, they got the band back together this season with Areli Olvera, Cesar Garcia-Diaz, Marisol Pelcastre, Omar Chavez, and Roxane Rishidian electing to put Chris Rivest in at QB. With 39 TD’s Chris Rivest is leading the league in passing TDs and even has 100 yards rushing and a TD for the cherry on top. When I last checked in on the Badgers, they had 2 wins and I was worried they wouldn’t find their flow… but boy, did they turn it around! Taking a win over THE VILLAINS and a forfeit over KMEZ, they barely lost against a good IG TEAM, and gained their 5th win over TEAM ROCKET! Now at the end of all this they have to face FITSQUAD. Chris Rivest will have all the targets he can ask for with Nestor Nacip Chavez Fayad, Cesar, and newcomer Jonathan Shea who combined have 25 TDs! Cesar is actually leading the league in receiving yards, sitting at 530 yards – 65 yards ahead of 2nd place…

Jonathan Shea can also apparently play 2 ways and has picked up 3 more sacks since I last saw him. I called out Marisol and Roxane in the report card since I think their ability to get some PDs and INTs will be the difference amongst other teams, however, I also want to mention Ana Karen Rodriguez Valverde who is a tackle machine! Racking up 11 Tackles, she has the 3rd most number of tackles on the team (11), and a good addition this year. BADGERS will be playing FITSQUAD in their last game of the season, and I think it would be awesome to see that upset! BADGERS have developed well over the past season and are now seeing the playoffs! Time to step it up!

Predictions: 5-5

DEEP BALLZ:

During the Fall Cup, DEEP BALLZ dropped and made it all the way to the semi-finals, losing to WIB 2.0. Now, having solidified their 2nd playoff run, Bruno Provencher is doing his best to keep up with the monster QBs of Co-Ed 2! The increase of success Bruno has found is truly great: he is protecting the ball a lot more – having some of the lowest turnover rates as a QB – and nearly doubling his TDs from last year. They came out and got the upset over THE FLASHBANG TEAM, with Bruno throwing 6 TDs! DEEP BALLZ has got their 5 wins to guarantee playoffs and should be able to sneak away with a 6th! Together, DEEP BALLZ offense has put up 30+ points in most of the last 5 games and should be able to do the same against BLOCK PARTY. As I have been saying, those are the kind of points you’ll need to win most games, and now that Bruno has been able to find his Rhythm (32 TDs and 3 Rushing TDs), the offense is clicking.

On Defense, Thomas Trepanier is still the “Jack of All Trades” having every defensive stat you can, except the ever elusive Pick-6, and following right in his footsteps is Antoine Epstein. Adding Rory Kelly to the mix, who is carrying 5 INTs and 7 PDs, and you’ve got a recipe for success. Although not as many turnovers, Eve Charbonneau has 17 tackles which is impressive for a new player. Position means a lot in FPF, and that many tackles shows that you can be where you need to be and you don’t miss flags. 2 players have a defensive TD: Laurie St-Onge and Victor Rifiorati. Overall, this team has kicked it up a notch and is surprising teams so often that I’m not sure I would consider them underdogs anymore.

Predictions: 6-4
