5v5 Intermediate – Week 2 Recap

5v5 Intermediate – Week 2 Recap
Two weeks into the Spring 2025 season, the 5v5 Intermediate division is already taking shape as a three-tier battle: elite contenders, competitive mid-tier squads, and teams still trying to find their footing. Les Giants and Bleue Dry have clearly separated themselves, combining high-powered offenses with playoff-caliber defenses. Teams like Still C.R.A. and Ambush have shown promise, but need to either raise their level of play — or in Ambush’s case, simply get back on the field so we can better evaluate them. Meanwhile, FC Bing and Montreal Mavericks are feeling the growing pains that come with stepping up to a tougher division. Here’s how things stack up after two weeks of action.

Les Giants (2–0)
Wins: 49–12 vs FC Bing, 39–0 vs Montreal Mavericks
Les Giants look terrifying. They’ve allowed just 12 points over two games while racking up 88 of their own. But this isn’t just about numbers — it’s about how they’re doing it. Quarterback Marc-André Reeves is not just the best passer in this division; he’s one of the top quarterbacks in all of FPF. A Division B star who could easily thrive in Division A or even 5v5 Competitive, Reeves has thrown for 452 yards, 11 touchdowns, and zero interceptions with an absurd 80% completion rate.

Weapons like Gab Couture (148 yards, 3 TDs) and Marvin Renaud (2 TDs, 2 INTs on defense) are making big plays every week, and the defense is loaded with contributors. Vincent Richard and Matthiew Visockis have stepped up in big moments, and Reeves himself has 2 sacks. This is a complete team, and the rest of the division should be on notice.

Bleue Dry (2–0)
Wins: 50–30 vs Five Guys, 34–18 vs Five Guys
Bleue Dry is doing exactly what a preseason favorite should: winning with authority. They’ve opened with back-to-back wins against a very capable Five Guys team, averaging 42 points per game and looking poised for another deep playoff run. Quarterbacks Frédéric Juneau and Zacharie Quiviger have shared the duties so far, and both have delivered — a combined 10 TDs with no interceptions.

The headline, though, is Charles Cossette. Through two games, he’s been uncoverable. His size, combined with elite hands, make him one of the most dangerous weapons in the division. Add in Yvan Desjardins’ 3 TDs and league-leading 3 interceptions, and Bleue Dry is proving to be a matchup nightmare. Defensively, they’ve forced turnovers and scored points — including a pick-six from Didier Brisebois. This team looks championship-ready.

Ambush (1–0)
Win: 31–30 vs Still C.R.A.
Ambush has only played once, but they delivered a thrilling one-point win over Still C.R.A. in Week 2. WR Anthony Drysdale emerged as the go-to guy with 119 yards and 3 TDs.

On defense, William Gillespie and Alexandre Szalipszki each made timely plays. The win shows Ambush still has the talent and poise to be a factor in this division. But to truly measure where they stand, we’ll need to see them string together multiple performances. They’ll get that chance immediately in a rematch against Still C.R.A. in Week 3.

Still C.R.A. (1–1)
Win: 29–28 vs FC Bing | Loss: 30–31 vs Ambush
Still C.R.A. has played two nail-biters, splitting them down the middle. Ryan Kharouf has racked up yards and touchdowns (519 and 9), but also 4 interceptions and a sub-60% completion rate. That isn’t the version of Kharouf we expected coming into the season — and he knows it. This is a quarterback capable of dominating the division, and until he reaches that level, this team’s ceiling remains capped.

Nirosh Suresh has picked up the slack, with 237 yards and 6 touchdowns already — one of the best WR lines in the division. On defense, Sacha Saint-Amand, Marc Antoine Martin, and Karim Madji have all contributed multiple ways. Still C.R.A. is good — but for them to be taken seriously in the playoff picture, their QB play has to catch up to their overall talent.

Five Guys (1–2)
Losses: 30–50 and 18–34 vs Bleue Dry | Win: 60–6 vs FC Bing
The good news: Five Guys can score. The bad news: they can’t stop anyone. They lead the division in points scored (108) and are powered by a productive QB, Jared Buck, who has thrown for 748 yards and 15 TDs. He’s also thrown 6 interceptions, some of them avoidable, but even with those miscues, he’s giving his team enough offense to win games.

Mathieu Lepage leads the league in receiving with 340 yards and 8 TDs, and James Nguyen has been impactful both on offense (146 yards, 3 TDs) and defense (3 sacks, 2 PDs). Danny D’Amour leads the team with 8 tackles. But defensively, they’ve surrendered 90 points — far too much for a team with playoff ambitions. Until they figure out how to get stops, they’ll be stuck in shootouts.

Montreal Mavericks (0–1)
Loss: 0–39 vs Les Giants
The Mavericks’ debut was nothing short of a disaster. A 39–0 loss to Les Giants exposed the gaps in both execution and preparation. Offensively, they couldn’t move the ball; defensively, they couldn’t get a stop. It’s a brutal way to start, but the good news is there’s plenty of season left.

The key now will be finding an identity. Are they a speed-based team? Can they win with defense? What is their offensive structure? With games against Five Guys, Ambush, and Bleue Dry coming up, they’ll need to find answers quickly — or risk getting buried in the standings.

FC Bing (0–3)
Losses: 12–49 vs Les Giants, 6–60 vs Five Guys, 28–29 vs Still C.R.A.
The jump from Division 6B to Intermediate has been tough for FC Bing — maybe too tough. They’ve lost their first three games by a combined score of 138–46, including a 60–6 beatdown at the hands of Five Guys. Quarterback Marc-André Senécal has been ok (397 yards, 7 TDs), but he has struggled with consistency and getting rid of the ball — Senécal has been sacked 8 times.

Mohammed Boukaftane is a bright spot with 187 yards, 4 touchdowns, and a pick on defense. Charles Vuong and Simon Prégent have also produced, but the team as a whole hasn’t looked competitive. It’s still early, but unless major improvements come quickly, it’s hard to see them winning more than one or two games this season.
