35+ FPF : Weeks 6&7&8 In Review

35+ FPF: From the Field to the Page, Weeks 6-7-8 in Review

So the guilt factor has set in and I decided to bless you all with another dose of 35+ FPF Action. Keep the cheers to a minimum, I don’t need adulation for my time spent writing about the slowest, but prettiest division in all of FPF.

The post NFL sports drought is here, with nothing but NHL till pitchers and catchers report & March Madness.  NBA doesn’t count, I said sports, anything where the concept of load management exists puts you a real special category of weak.  NHL with a young but not ready for prime version of the Habs, means not much to cheer for in February except the upcoming Leafs playoffs collapse. Mitch Marner is the NHL equivalent of yogurt. Plain and boring.  Good for Nylander, he played well and got the deal, but now they are so screwed cap wise still, again and always. Habs have the best NHL young defencemen corps in the league coming in the next seasons and a legit #1 line, but they need to drop Gally, Anderson, Dvorack, Armia contracts and get some serious 2nd and 3rd line scoring going. Monty is ok and good enough if you can score 3 per game somehow.

Is there a better field than Saint Laurent? Brossard is definitely in the mix.  God Bless these facility attendants who take their jobs very seriously and keep us off the fields until our designated times.  There is nothing better than going from the elite lighting of a City run field to the darkness of some domes, but beggars definitely can’t be choosers in the limited field situation we find ourselves in. I still miss the character (and availability) of Lachine, the “birthplace” of FPF will always be a special place in the hearts of all FPF’ers. Also helps that I live less than 5 mins from Lachine.

As someone posted the other day, Giving the boss his due, have you thanked Rob Campana recently? We are blessed to have FPF in our lives.  20 years ago, you know what we did in the winter?  Definitely not football.  Hockey, snowball fights and yellow snow, that’s it.  It’s beyond amazing what Rob started and so many have helped support and grow the FPF Community. While nothing is ever perfect, the FPF experience is as close as you will get. From random teams, to rankings, to multiple divisions, to Junior, Co-Ed, Women’s and even 35+.  FPF has something for everyone.  Thanks to Rob for building FPF and letting us all play in your sandbox. I guess we can also give some love to #99 and his merry band of zebra misfits.

Enough with the sappy stuff, let’s talk about what happened in the past few weeks in the 35+ FPF world.

WEEK 6

Week 6 35+ Legends

Only 1 game in the legends division for week 6 , this is the last week in the schedule where only 1 game and 3 byes, 2 games a week from here on out…. Call the networks, we got content coming!  In a rematch from week 1 and on V-day itself, we have Pacemakers vs Greyhawks.  One QB went 3TD’s and 1 INT, while the other went the opposite. Guess who won? That’s correct, the former, who was Pacemaker’s QB, Jason Rossie. Pacemakers take it 24-6 in this one, after losing to the Greyhawks in week 1. So a series split so far with a week 12 battle ahead to determine the season series winner. Shane Williams/Pacemakers with 2 INT and 1 for a TD, while Kenton Lowe and Chris Brockwell lead the offence in Yards and Receptions.  Damien Jean-Jacques with a decent day for Greyhawks, but not much else there to highlight, if Chris Rosen only has 1 target and zero catches, you know the offence wasn’t clicking for QB Legend Aggie Kalaidopoulos…… get Chris the damn ball, Aggs!

Week 6 35+ Draft

Rematches continue with week 3 being repeated here. Flagplus took it on the chin from BroadyWindsor, previously 38-18, but alas the winless green machine of FPF finally shows some signs of life, battling it out to a momentous 25-25 tie.  Winless no more, I guess FPF still doesn’t have a win, but they are no longer pointless! BW’s Joel Watson has a monster day on offence with 8 catches and 2 TD’s, while his boy Myles cheers from the sideline, but it’s the Flagplus defence that forces Sean Avraam into his first 2 INT’s of the season ( I probably shouldn’t have pointed that the last article, definite jinx) and with Rossie avoiding any INT’s, the turnover battle gets FPF onto the standings with their first point of the season.  Yes, that was long sentence, sorry Carm.  In the other game, after a big outing by both teams in their first match-up (JMJ 37-OnRock36), the 2nd matchup is a little lopsided as JMJ cruises to a 45-20 victory.  When Kastner goes 6-0 TD to INT ratio, they will usually win and that’s what happened.  Too many turnovers by On Rock, a strong outing by Chris Brockwell/OnRock with 8 catches and 2 TD’s, but it’s Domenic Tosi/JMJ who steals the show with 2 offensive TD’s on 3 catches along with 2 INT’s including a pick 6.  Rusher extraordinaire Francis Haley/JMJ also hits the scoreboard with 2 TD’s on 3 catches, turning into a dual threat!

WEEK 7

Week 7 35+ Legends

2 games in week 7 35+ Legends, with Greyhawks v Team Ethink Sr & Pacemakers v Everything Hurts, and we hit the Unicorn on the scoreboard as both games end with 38-6 scores, with Greyhawks and Pacemakers both taking the W.  For Greyhawks, QB Aggie had 6 points in week 6, he finally decides to put his bog boy pants on and get’s 6 TD’s here instead, a much better performance. Combine that with Greyhawks defence holding only 2 Ethink receivers with catches is definitely a receipe for success. In the other unicorn score game, Pacemakers continue to roll and while Frank Teoli-Colatrella spreads the ball well this game, not enough for Everything Hurts to find enough end zone for their 2nd win.  Shane Williams starts strong with a pick 6 on the 2nd play of the game and continues to lead the league in INT’s.

Week 7 35+ Draft

Starting with a battle of the 2 top teams, we get a defense optional event with a 98 point output between JMJ and BroadyWindsor, with the latter picking up the win 52-46.  100 points would have been cooler, but at least they tried.  Dylan Taylor makes his 35+ debut and slings it for 8 TD’s, he clearly found a connection with super spare Kenton Lowe as they connect for 5 TD’s. Kastner is right behind him hitting 7 TD’s and 4 of them to Cory Sim-Robertson putting Cory at the top of the TD leaderboard for the season, but unfortunately JMJ comes up just short and the season series is tied 1-1. Kastner also overcomes some early season Convert trouble hitting 4 of 7 converts here. After picking up their first point of the season, could FPF continue the momentum and get their first W of the season? Yes would be that answer.  A great shootout going down to the potential game tying convert for On Rock, but super sacker GM Kolethras makes the game sealing sack to give FPF their first W of the season 32-30.  While in a losing effort, but not due to lack of effort, Dave Weiss lives the multiples (divisibles?) of 4 with 4 tackles, 4 TD’s and 8 catches on 12 targets for 132 yards. As usual in a close game, it comes down to converts where FPF picks up 2 pts to On Rock’s 0.

WEEK 8

Week 8 35+ Legends

Up first this week we have Ethink and Everything Hurts, after both only putting up 6 points last week, both teams come alive on offence, but it’s Ethink doubling up E-Hurts, with a decisive 36-18 score. I’m going to assume the stats are incorrect because they make no sense (stupid app). So “if” Vince Pisano went 6 for 8 at QB, do we have a QB controversy in Hurts land? Lol.  I can’t really assess anything else as the stats sucks for this game. Brent “the app isn’t downloading” Bodkin must have been the scorekeeper, lmao. In game 2, we have Greyhawk’s picking up a huge W over the formally 1st place Bearskins.  A couple key absences for Bearskins, with a traveling GM and injured Nardone, looks like spares weren’t enough to make up for it, as the Greyhawks fight on and pick up a defensive with 18-7. Neither offence has much to show, but it’s Greyhawks Captain Derek Dugas leads the way with 6 tackles and 1 INT.

Week 8 35+ Draft

Another close one in the exciting world of 35+ FPF, Broady Windsor takes a nailbiter 43-42 on the last play of the game with a TD as Avraam hit’ss Dave Ritcher for the QB’s 7th TD of the day.  That means On Rock, has dropped back to back games on the last play of the game in the past 2 weeks.  Hurts, but they are starting to fire on all cylinders as Chris Olson is finally showing his 2023 championship form as the goes for 6 Td’s on 18 completions, 4 converts and shimmies for 24 yards on the ground. Vinny G states his case for 2 way player of the season with 3 TD’s on 7 catches, 4 tackles and 4 PD’s. On the other field, all the momentum FPF had gained the previous weeks, wasn’t on display in week 8 as JMJ get’s back on the winning side of things with a 34-14 victory over FPF. With GM and Nardone out, the FPF machine was thrown off rhythm and JMJ does what they do often, score. The story for JMJ is always the same, Tosi caught a lot of balls, Cory scores, Lonnie’s tackles everyone, Kousaie finds another INT and Ryan goes 15 for 21 with 5 TD’s.  FPF gets one more kick at the JMJ can, in the final game of the season, hopefully they can figure out a way to beat JMJ before the playoffs.

Post Week 8 Standings Analysis

35+ Legends

Week 8 of 14 now complete for the 35+ Legends and only 4 teams eligible for the playoffs, means it’s time to kick it onto gear. With most teams with 5 games still to go, anything can happen in the standings as only 6 points separate the top and the bottom. Everything Hurts needs to apply the Rub A535 directly onto said Hurting spots and get on a bit of a roll to avoid being the team left out the playoffs. In a schedule black hole, Pacemakers and Bearskins play each other 3 times in the next 3 weeks, nothing like a little variety schedule-maker!  These 3 games will pretty determine first place, and maybe even give the teams below them a chance to shoot up the standings if one team can run the table. Playing 3 times in 3 weeks, means someone is getting knocked out #Glassjoe. This is why you don’t schedule back to backs ever, give teams time to breathe between match ups. Fortunately there are Draft teammates on both sides so they hopefully don’t battle too hard.

35+ Draft

8 weeks down in the 12 week season, so we’ve hit the 2/3’s mark of the season(see I did the math for you).  The standings tell the story of anti-parity. It’s a 2 way race for 1st and 2nd between JMJ and BW as the bottom feeders can’t catch them anymore, which leave On Rock and FPF scrambling to avoid the bottom. But in every season of 35+ FPF, upsets loom in the semi-finals so while the regular season matters, it’s the silly season where champions are found. JMJ and BW have each beaten each other once, same with 1-1 records for On Rock and FPF. That means the week 11 match-ups between each other will be the critical games to watch to see who finishes above and below each other. Hopefully no ties that week as it will cause more math and thinking which no one needs.

Randomness

Walking Dead has jumped the shark but it’s always good to see Rick and Michonne again.

Watch Hightown on Crave/Starz, simple entertainment, pure fluff.

That Reacher dude is a beast.  A giant version of Chuck Norris. His years at John Abbott as a member of Blue Mountain State clearly influenced his coolness.

Spring is here, a little early, but that’s A-ok. Maybe outside for the FPF Playoffs?

Shane Gillis had the last laugh.

Fudge the Chiefs. I do not acknowledge you, you talented MF’ers Mahomes, stop winning and being amazing.

Rangers #73 is a classic.

Habs better start losing to the right teams, beating Zona was unhelpful.

Enjoy Bud Light.

That’s it, that’s all.

See you on the field.

Most article writers put their contact information here, but I don’t want to be found.  Or hear most opinions. Especially Ron’s.
