3 teams make statements; Mid-Season Awards Approach

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Week 5. We are almost at the halfway point of the season.

Thorough 4 games so far this season, we have seen some teams some teams really separate themselves from the pack. The Bloodmachines continue to rain down bombs on opponents when they’re on Offense. Their Defense has been just as impressive, they have 1 shutout to their credit, and came close to getting another in Week 3. Amazingly, so far this season, they’ve allowed a total of 37 points. Is it just me, or are we seeing another L.A’s Finest?

Another team that has caught my eye is Been There Done That. After suffering a defeat in Week at the hands of the aforementioned Bloodmachines, BTDT, has reeled off 3 consecutive wins in convincing fashion. Their latest victims were the Fuzzy-Kittens who they beat 46-18 this past Tuesday in Brossard. Their Offense pulled off the rare feat of having more than one QB throw at least 3 TDs in the same game. Impressive boys…

After having to forfeit their Week 3 game against TDs and Beer, Los Guapos came back with a vengeance and pulled off the W in an entertaining 32-30 upset win over the Smash Bros. This game came down to conversions, and LG QB Terrence Dobson was able to use his legs to extend plays and give his guys time to get open.

The loss for the Smash Bros was big on two fronts. First they wasted good performances by rusher Eddy Rousseau who recorded 3 sacks in the game, and WR Paul Santache who registered 4 catches for 118 yards and a game-high 3 TDs.

More importantly, the loss knocks the Smash Bros down to the 6 spot in Conference B, and a full game behind Los Guapos who now hold the tiebreaker.

There are 3 winless teams remaining in Div 6. They are the Looney Goons, # Baton, and Mile Public House. Don’t worry gentlemen, the season is far from over. I have seen talent on all these squads. It’s just little mistakes and better execution that is keeping these teams off the win column. It’s too early to get frustrated. You guys are all young teams, and the majority of you guys are playing FPF and football in general for the first time. Use the next 6 games as a chance to get better, and more importantly as a learning experience. The playoffs are still in play for every team in Div 6. Just because you haven’t won yet doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It only takes one game to change your season around. Good luck this week.

High 5

Simon Laporte – The sack master strikes again, as Laporte picked up 4 more QB take downs in his team’s (JeanGuy) 19-12 win over the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. The second year player now has a total of 9 through only 4 games. How many more will he add to his total this Monday against the Bloodmachines?…Honorable mention to Bloodmachines rusher Kenzy Aristilde-Louis who had 3 sacks, 4 pass deflections and a tackle as he terrorized Mile Public House.

The Been There Done That Offense – As I mentioned above, they had 2 Quarterbacks Sebastien Tardif and Kevin Marion throw at least 3 TDs in the same game. I’ve seen many teams in FPF play with two QBs in a game. I have even done that with my team, but I’ve never witnessed two guys on the same team throw that many in the same contest. Impressive…

Isiah Allard – The TDs and Beer two-way threat was at it again Sunday night versus the Falcons. Allard who also plays Div B with the Monstars, made his presence felt on both sides of the ball, as he had a tackle and an interception to go along with 6 catches for 134 yards and 3 TDs.

Two question now remain. Firstly, will Allard be able to make it 2 spectacular Sundays in a row as he and his team take on the ever dangerous One Man Show? And, will his team emerge victorious after falling to the Falcons last week?

Jonathan Garfinkle – Going back to the TDs and Beer/Falcons game one last time. Although he was held off the board in looking for his 6th TD of the season, Garfinfinkle still had a very strong game. On offensive his heldep out his team by grabbing balls for 58 yards. On the Defensive end is where he really shone, as he recorded a game-high 3 INTs to go along with 4 tackles. His matchup this Sunday against the Smash Bros and their QB Jonah Cohen should be a must-see.

Normand Bellemare – Much respect to the One Man Show Snapper. I must admit I became a fan of his this past Winter Season when I watched play for his current team, formerly Wax On Wax Off. Bellemare who has been in FPF since 2011, is the captain of his team, but he is also the calming influence that his squad needs.

All the young and inexperienced players and snappers out there should take a second and watch the man play, and how he carries himself. You could learn a thing or two… A man his age doing the things that he does is incredible…As for why he’s on the list this week; 5 catches for 24 yards and 3 TDs to go along with a tackle. Enough said…

Step It Up

Brandon Keiller – Despite the amazing performance by his teammate the aforementioned Isiah Allard, the TDs and Beer QB had an abysmal day as he went 12 for 21 for 191 yards 2tds, and 5INTs. The yardage total is nice, but you won’t be beating anybody (at least you shouldn’t) throwing 5 picks. We’ll see if he bounces back this week.

QBs – It wasn’t enough that #Baton QB (little JaMarcus Russell) Max Kevin Jocelyn had another shaky performance as he completed only 4 passes, but threw 3 picks, his backup David Laplante didn’t fare any better as he had as many completions as INTs (1). Hopefully their fortunes will turn around this Monday night when they take on Royalty.

The Fat and the Furious Mikey Christiano was remarkably even worse as also had the same amount as completions as picks as well with an astounding 6!

Shutouts and blowouts – Last week in this very same space, I talked about the plethora of low scoring games. While teams up their point totals, 3 teams still registered a goose egg just like what happened last week.

The week before that, I talked about the crazy amount of games ending in a blowout. After 4 long weeks, the message still hasn’t sunk in as 7 out of a possible 10 games were one-sided again! Come guys, I know there are some teams that are clearly better than others, but the talent gap isn’t that wide. STEP IT UP!!!!

Picks

Falcons vs Smash Bros

Can the Smash Bros recover after their loss to Los Guapos? Or was that just a small hiccup? SB is talented, but I think the Falcons are just too strong offensively.

No name@ vs Fuzzy Kittens

No Name is simply just too good, and they appear to be hitting on all cyclinders. Former Chateauguay Raider Johnny Symonds will look to add to his team high 5 TDs in this one. I think he will.

One Man Show vs TDs and Beer (My pick for game of the week)

The Allard vs Dangerous Danny D’Amour matchup should be fun to watch. I’ll put my money on the better player and team in this one.

Looney Goons vs Smokin’ Axolotls

Just like in the Winter Season, the Smokin’ Axolotls had to wait till Week 4 to get their first W. I think the wait to win number 2 ends Sunday night.

JeanGuy vs Bloodmachines

While I expect Simon Laporte to wreak havoc on the Bloodmachines’ Offense, the class on Div. E so far is just too explosive and well managed to stop.

Flight of the Conchords vs Los Guapos

Los Guapos showed they can hang with the big boys. FOTC high-powered Offense will be yet another test for LG. I think they’ll be up to the challenge.

Royalty vs #Baton

After getting handled the last 3 weeks, Royalty has a chance to right the ship, and get back on track this week. I think they will.

Big Blue Wrecking Crew vs Been There Done That

Been There Done That has feasted on weaker opponents so far this season. I think the feast continues.

Redmen vs Mile Public House

The Redmen Defense has a chance to shine again against an inexperienced QB. In the words of my protégé Moe Khan “It could be over by kickoff.”

Last Week: 8-2

Season: 22-7-1

I was going to talk trash to Yannick about how I’m beating him in our head to head picks, but since he had to remind me that I went 8-2 last week (For some weird reason, I thought I went 6-4) I’ll keep my mouth closed this week. Thanks Yannick!

That’s it for this week; I will be back next week, but things will be a little different. Next week’s article will be the Mid-Seaon Awards. (I’ll wait a few seconds for the cheering to calm down, waiting…waiting..waiting…there we go…In it I will include my picks for QB, WR, Rusher, Team, and best winless team amongst other categories of the half season. Stay tuned, it should be fun! Don’t worry the picks will still be there.

I’ve been checking my e-mail and twitter account regularly for feedback and suggestions from you guys. Thanks for everything so far. Please keep it coming.
