Ok. The season is finally over. If you’re reading this, you’re most likely playoff bound. Then again, you might simply be too much of a fanatic to let go. In any case, I’d like to thank you all for the highly entertaining season I witnessed.
For those still up for battle, I have no doubt your best football is ahead of you. With the season on the line, things usually become pretty intense around here and, to my great delight, this intensity tends to result in fantastic game action.
So strap yourselves in boys, because you’re in for a ride!
Snookers (1) vs Terror Squad (4)
Previous matchup (Week 10): Terror Squad 37 – Snookers 31
In a very uncharacteristic interception-fest, the Terror Squad set the tone for this matchup by edging the Snookers just a week before their decisive meeting. The main storyline in the last weeks for the Snookers has to be their inability to convert inside the red zone. With Anthony Comeau, Anthony Bozzo and Alex Giroux missing from Terror Squad’s line-up, the Snookers should have been able to slice through their opponent. How can they expect to fare any better against an improved Terror Squad team? Ladies and gentlemen, this smells like an upset....
Best QB: Tony Tabet
Best Offence: Terror Squad
Best Rusher: Anthony Bozzo
Best Defence: Terror Squad
X-Factor: Weiland Prosper
Prediction: Snookers 25 – Terror Squad 33
Big TDs (2) vs Evolution (3)
Previous matchup (Week 5): Big TDs 38 – Evolution 33
After three straight losses, many Big TDs fanatics have decided to discard their colourful “Think Big” fan-wear. However, don’t put all your chips in Evolution’s corner just yet; especially since Kenton Lowe will be unavailable. While the TDs have had problems fielding a legit team since their QB’s suspension, they still have some fight in them. With a solid squad of receivers and one of the best two-way playmakers in Ryan Brewster, they might still have a few tricks up their sleeve. Nevertheless, Paul Lapierre’s way to his second championship as QB seems less dodgy every week.
Best QB: Paul Lapierre
Best Offence: Evolution
Best Rusher: Bryan Nguyen
Best Defence: Evolution
X-Factor: Renaldo Jordan
Prediction: Big TDs 27 – Evolution 32
Trojans (1) vs Prestige World Wide (4)
Previous matchup (Week 9): Trojans 45 – Prestige World Wide 40
Prestige World Wide are still scratching their head about their last tilt with the Trojans. Defensively, they had no answer for Nincheri’s lightning paced offence and they ultimately gave in to their opponent’s game plan. Sadly for them, high scoring games rarely favour them. Their only chance lies in an aggressive brand of defensive football. If they can win the battle of turnovers, they just might make a splash. On the other hand, if they keep trying to contain the 5-headed monster that is the Trojans offence, they will find themselves on the outside looking in....again.
Best QB: Rick Nincheri
Best Offence: Trojans
Best Rusher: Brian Eudoxie
Best Defence: Prestige World Wide
X-Factor: Donald Shepherd
Prediction: Trojans 40 – Prestige World Wide 36
SWAT (2) vs Park Street Elite (3)
Previous matchup (Week 7): SWAT 40 – Park Street Elite 27
While SWAT is contemplating the difficult task of choosing between Carmine Pollice and Jon Lyristis, Park Street Elite are trying to cope with their own demons. After a terrific start, they have lost four of their last five games including two ugly losses to below .500 teams. Does this have anything to do with Brandon Pierre leaving the team (they show a 1-3 record without him)? Or maybe opposing teams have found a way through their formerly scary defence? Whatever the reason, they better fix their woes soon if they don’t want to end up devoured by the experienced SWAT...
Best QB: Gino Di Fazio
Best Offence: Park Street Elite
Best Rusher: Mather Warsame
Best Defence: SWAT
X-Factor: Adam Bailey
Prediction: SWAT 31 – Park Street Elite 30
All-Star selections will be announced later this week. For now, I’d simply like to congratulate the individual award winners for the 2011 Spring Season.
